An electrical grid is an interconnected network for delivering electricity from producers to consumers for example to run your electric griddle and other home appliances. It consists of generating stations that produce electrical power, high voltage transmission lines that carry power from distant sources to demand centers, and distribution lines that connect individual customers
Power stations may be located near a fuel source, at a dam site, or to take advantage of renewable energy sources, and are often located away from heavily populated areas. They are usually quite large to take advantage of economies of scale. The electric power which is generated is stepped up to a higher voltage at which it connects to the electric power transmission network.
The bulk power transmission network will move the power long distances, sometimes across international boundaries, until it reaches its wholesale customer (usually the company that owns the local electric power distribution network).
On arrival at a substation, the power will be stepped down from a transmission level voltage to a distribution level voltage. As it exits the substation, it enters the distribution wiring. Finally, upon arrival at the service location, the power is stepped down again from the distribution voltage to the required service voltage(s).

Years ago I worked for a company that painted high voltage steel towers, and electrical substations steel structures. We painted the towers while energized, hot. When crawling out on the arms that hold the insulators, which the lines are attached, you are crawling usually on a angle iron turned up, not very pleasant on the knees, and you learn to stay very low, a very low profile, and don't let a leg slip below you either. If on the middle arm, you got an energized line above your head, and one below you. You can hear them, the constant hum, the subtle cracking noise, and occasionally you get a jolt of static electricity. Not enough to kill you, but one that says hold on tighter and ground yourself better. In the several years I painted high voltage, I never seen anybody get into a " hot" line. Although, several years after I left, a very close painting friend, got into a line at a substation for a different that pushed safety too far, way too far. He was very " lucky", I guess anyway, but badly disfigured. Very few, get into voltage that high, and live to tell about it. Some of the towers we painted had voltage exceeding several hundred thousands volts. Although most are maybe 115 k or 230k. Either one, more than enough to cook you like a piece of bacon in a matter of seconds.

Cold Steam the efficient way to use heat sources to produce electricity and or distilled water explained from basic concept to employment. Water boils at 75 degrees F in a vacuum. Two open containers one full of water the other empty connect them at the bottom and water will reach an equilibrium 50 50. If one is sealed except for the connection the other will remain empty because of the vacuum created in the sealed container. Gravity will overcome this vacuum if the containers are taller than 30 feet. If the tanks are 40 feet tall the tanks will reach an equilibrium of water levels at 30 feet leaving ten feet of hard vacuum in the sealed tank. This makes a vacuum pump set we need two of them if we were going to distill water as the cold side open tank is used to collect the distilled water from it as the continuous input of water needs to go somewhere. Each sealed tank has four valves three at the top two of those on opposite sides (B&C) one at the very top (D) one at the bottom on the side (A), water-based vacuum pump operations are, Close bottom tank valve A and top tank valve C. Open top tank valve D. Fill sealed tank through top side valve B. Close valve B and D when full. Open bottom valve A. This primes the system to let the warm water in that will vaporize and run through the system when you partially reopen valve B (to control flow rate) and open valve C to its fullest. For only power generation need one pump set and one vacuum tank so we can have a Hot side and a Cold side one to boil the water and one to have the low pressure/vacuum to draw the steam in through the turbine then the cooling coils then to the tank. At the bottom of the cold side, tank is a return pipe with the one way valve to the heat source the one-way valve prevents expansion back to the cold side and as the hot side vacuum chamber is the only outlet for the expanding water and it is drawn by the vacuum the cycle proceeds. You can combine the two and get power generation and distilled water keeping the return line from the power generation system will let you switch if you don't need distilled water on a continuous basis in large quantities. I am going to make one feel free to make one as well it is open source.

I have one doubt. Suppose a country has interconnected grid where a power can be supplied by any generator to consumer. So if I have generating plant,how would I know that where I am supplying the power. Or suppose a consumer is Taking power from generating plant A and due to some reason,now power is supplied by Gen B. Then how the billing and all that stuff is done.

CORRECTION: after electricity is generated, the voltage is stepped up and sent through feeder cables connected a switchyard - which is like a substation but doesn't have transformers or circuit breakers - only busses and switches and operates only at a single voltage level.

@iainreid9914
@iainreid9914 6 лет назад
360srh2, no there is no neutral, just the three phase conductors. The three phases are a complete circuit. A Neutral is how the system is configured at the distribution transformer end where it connects to the consumer. Look up delta and star connections in transformers.

Bullplop, if they were serious about lowering costs to the consumer then they would start making real advancements instead of trying to tweak what they've already got. Long distance power transmission using High Voltage DC is a real improvement and not a tweak, HVDC dramatically cuts the losses from long distance power transmission, thus real savings to the customer. But power companies aren't interested in saving you real money although through sleight of hand this video attempts to convince you otherwise.

@thelightdesigner4490
@thelightdesigner4490 5 лет назад
@Electric Bit that isn't even true, AC creates more heat and losses than DC this is because of the extra impedance caused by the inductance. the real reason why we use AC is so we can use transformers
