In those heaters there is a thermal cutout usually at the top of the heater connected before the element which melts if there is an overload,could be the element which is not completely broken but becomes more resistant to the flow of electricity than if the element was fully intact this would melt the thermal cutout
@TraceyAltoft
@TraceyAltoft 6 месяцев назад
more likley they had clothes or towels placed on top of the heater .
@eastwayelectrical
@eastwayelectrical 6 месяцев назад
Hi David Thanks for watching. You could be right about the thermal cut out I didn't think about that, you know far more about these heaters than I do. It make sense an immersion heater has the same thing.
@cameronherd7112
@cameronherd7112 6 месяцев назад
Agree, seen this before. Some have a “push button” cut out that can be reset simply by pushing it back in. Common in bathrooms as the tenants block the vents by drying towels etc on the heater which cause the thermal cut out to trigger 👍

I wonder what caused that 13amp fuse to blow. Not normal to blow with out a fault. Was the oven on for a while when it blew the fuse first time. Think I would have done an insulation test on it and left it running for a little while whilst I checked out the heaters.
@trespire
@trespire 6 месяцев назад
Was thinking the same thing. A PAT test would have been appropriate, or at least a leak test phase to earth. I'm a technician, not a certified electrician.

If you want to see if a fuse works, run it over your mobile phone. If it scrolls the screen and lets you type in your password, it's good to go. If the screen stays blanks and nothing happens it's a duff fuse ;) Thank me later

Before changing the fuse on the oven, an IR test live earth neutral earth should have been carried out. Easy enough tested across the pins on the plug. You could have left that oven with a fault…………….

She was referring to the mcb. Another one of those people working from home who are not too co-operative, what made it worse is she's a tenant therefore she felt putout.

I've just replaced a house fool of storage heaters I replaced the with a new type of heater the woman bought on line thay look like the intelirad from cef same design & can be controlled by an app if your customer hasn't got economy 7 I'd keep them switched off as it must be astronomical to use... liking your work 👏👏

I would always put something on the floor to protect it from sharp edges grease and dirt when pulling out an oven also if you can make it same level as the cupboard it’s coming out of it might be easier to work on

Quite often an early warning the oven element it's on its way out. I replaced my oven element three times in 24 years. So fed up with it and getting aged I replaced the whole oven in the end. Grill went as well. The Bosch did well.

If all those heaters are on a separate circuit, fit a time switch at the board and they can all be on or off as needed and/or if they’re on a variable tariff, at the cheapest rate. Horrible things though!
@eastwayelectrical
@eastwayelectrical 6 месяцев назад
That's an idea I'll have to think it through. From what I understand the manufacturer do not recommend those heaters been controlled by an ordinary time clock . They should be controlled by a dule tariff system
@paullyons4624
@paullyons4624 6 месяцев назад
They probably will be on their own circuits as they would be connected to an off peak board but if you were to operate them from a timer it would have to be done with contactors.

That type of controller is not suitable for a high load for a extended period its ok for lights ie a light load but thats all. Tbh a installation to off peak should have its own supply running from a central programmer ie Horstman for instance.

This bloke dosnt have a clue. He doesn’t even know what heaters they are . 9 out of 10 times it’s the thermo cutout that’s tripped . That’s the first thing to check. And reset .if necessary. I’m guessing there is economy 7 and the time switches should be synchronised to the night rate. Not the best way it’s wired .
