I'm an old electrician with over 50 years experience. That coax splice will inject a resistance / transient signal into the length of the cable and render it useless. The LED repair will make the remaining LED's over powered and subject to early burnout. Each LED is designed to drop a value of voltage and removing one increases the applied voltage on the remaining units = over voltage.
