Yes brother drawings would greatly us visual learners. That's why your 10 week NEC course is excellent because you put on the screen step-by-step every calculation every deduction every code article and every reason why things have to be the way they are. Fantastic job brother keep up the great work 👍

I have a 3-prong 240v outlet wired with 10/2 w/ground (H-H-G) to a 2 pole GFCI breaker in a sub-panel. In the sub-panel, the neutral and ground are separate (bonded at the main panel). How can I test the GFCI function at the outlet? (note: I found a post somewhere that suggests turning off the breaker and running a wire between one of the hots and the ground, then turning on the breaker...should trip immediate he says). Will this work?

Only issue with placing the gfci breaker in the subpanel to avoid having to run the neutral out to the disconnect is that code requires at least 5 feet no more than 25 feet and in view from the hot tub. If you place the gfci breaker in the subpanel, unless it's by the disconnect, it would be inside and not by the spa or in code. Am I correct in saying this? I'm not a contractor or an electrician BTW. Thanks! And great videos

Any information on range gfci trips as soon as it is plugged in. Neutral and ground are already separated in the range unit.

Thank you for this . my first time installing a GFCI 2 pole Square D . With our other hot tubs I never used thus type. A little different install with the neutral (white) , One wire exits without a terminal on the breaker. Instructions are good to let you know 2x terminal strips are inside, one for ground and other for neutral wire (white). I get the setup but wonder why Square D does it this way?

I always follow your manufacturers instructions and square d can be a different manufacturer LOL

Question : I have a irrigation booster pump that is hardwired with uf 12/2 w ground that has the bare ground attached to the ground terminal on the pump THEN that 12/2 uf runs to a pump start relay box ….. the pump start relay box is fed by a 12/2 with ground directly to the main house panel to a standard 15 amp double pole breaker. Can I replace this standard 15 amp double pole breaker with a gfci 15 amp breaker and obviously leave the center neutral terminal on the breaker empty and just hook up the black and white wires to each load power terminal and achieve the safe and proper protection from this gfci breaker ? Thank you

Great video for my needs. My problem is I ran 10/2 w/ground from the panel out to an outlet. Later, I found it has to be GFCI protected. I bought the correct GFCI breaker, but I noted it needed two hots and a neutral. Glad to see your video stating I did not need the additional neutral conductor. However, I am still a little unclear "wherever this neutral (pigtail) lands there has to be a neutral inside that box". "Has to be a neutral" Any neutral? I have a neutral bar with many neutrals on it.

Has to be where a source neutral is, definitely work with your electrical inspector!

Seeing as you are running the circuit directly from your main panel you may connect the GFCI breakers pigtail neutral to the Main Service Panels Neutral/Ground Bar. In the Main Panel, the System Neutrals and Equipment and System Grounds may be interconnected and need not be isolated from one another. So the bar that has both bare copper conductors, white insulated conductors and green insulated conductors will be where the pigtail is connected to. If your application involves the implementation of a subpanel installed mid circuit, the GFCI breakers pigtail neutral needs to land on your subpanels or Disconnect Housings Neutral Bar. Your Subpanel or Disconnect Housing Neutral Bar MUST be isolated from ground meaning it CANNOT be bonded to the body of the housing and the Equipment Ground must remain as ONLY that designation (no neutrals terminating on this bar). Usually when you purchase the Subpanel or Disconnect Housing you will need to also purchase a seperate grounding bar for the brand of Subpanel you are using and install it yourself. Its simply 2 screws that attach it to designated holes predrilled and tapped by the manufacturer. This is ONLY to be used for the equipment ground and CANNOT be used for any neutral terminations most especially the GFCI neutral as it will render the GFCI useless in its ability to interrupt and open the circuit in a ground fault scenario. Your two hot legs (Red & Black commonly) terminate into the breaker in slots A&B and your Equipment Ground (Green) terminates onto the ground bar previously mentioned. As previously stated, the GFCI breakers pigtail neutral wire will then terminate on the Subpanels Neutral Bar. The Subpanels service feed lines running from your Main Service Panel and energizing the Subpanel attach on the bussing bars lugs, the System Neutral terminates on the Neutral bar lug and Ground to the Ground Bar previously mentioned. The Neutrals and grounds MUST remain isolated from one another in ANY location outside of the Main Service Panel.
