There are people who can afford to pay for electricity but aren't doing so because city power and eskom are not doing their job. They must first deal with this issue .

Even though a court order has been issued stating who can hike electricity the others do it even though they did no comply to court order.

How anyone could say they actually WANT to live in that shithole is beyond me.

I guess the guys bridging electricity will be on high demand... what a shame...

I don't know the figures, and we're not in JHB, but our son in Sandton lives in a building with prepaid meters, and so there are some middle class people that are affected. Our complex, which is in Ekurhuleni, is middle class as such, and we have prepaid meters. I don't think ours is the only complex like that either. Mr Yelland is right in emphasising that it's the poor who are mostly affected, but to generalise about the affordability of increases and procuring alternatives like solar to the middle class is disingenuous. Also, the rates have been increased too, so who do you think ends up subsidising the indigent households through increased utilities and rates ...? It's the middle class of course.

DA run City of Cape electricity fix fee charge just increased to R245pm. Been charging this last few years, not caring..

Electricity is killing every time you buy lets say 500 you get 175 units is it fair which means every time you load they deduct 200 not ones a month like they said
