Surely, with how small the EX30 is, it can't be considered as a small family car. If there was just a small car category, then it would probably win that. A small family car needs a good-sized boot and a decent leg room in the back.
Thanks for all your work this year, great video. I think that MG4 will get a run for its money from the new Citroën ë-C3 in a month or so. Around the same overall specs, but over €5.000 cheaper.
only until the war begins and the MG4 price will be lowered cause the chinese factory will produce that car for less than half the price cause that is the price in china , i mean the net price. They will lower the price to keep the factory running and to sell those with higher margins in europe. Simple as that - while the citroen will come with teasing issues and low volumes cause the production is too low for a too high demand. And it can always be a delay for the right driving UK editioni cause it adds complexity to the assembly line to run 2 versions instead of 1.
Best not hold your breath if your waiting for excellent news on EV's unless its depreciation or the number of manufacturers deciding to halt making them.
Yea, I found that too. I got quoted £900 for a 2021 Tesla model 3 valued around £23K. Other EVs were down to a third of the price. At least Teslas are becoming more affordable 2nd hand, but the depreciation from new is horrific!
Not a single mention of Hyundai ioniq 6. This car won world car of the year and 3 other awards this year and you didn't mention it. If I could buy any reasonably priced eV it would be that car all day long.
@@tonyireland2234 thermodynamics (octovalve/short run coolant piping plus short run heavy cable) and CDxA are the spaces that the best engineers should be playing in. ICE knowledge inhibits more than assists.
Good line up of cars there. Well done. I am tempted by the volvo EX30 but the lack of physical buttons puts me off a bit. Plus the SUV styling, just too many of them.
I’m currently driving a Renault Zoe. If the weather stays as it is at the moment, a fortnight of running around costs £9.50 to £20. A similar petrol or diesel car costs £50 a week to fuel.
Is their an award for the most new power batteries since April 2023 ? I've just been reading the comments on "out of spec guide's" Tesla battery failures. He's on his 3rd on his 2021 Tesla.Another is on his 3rd since 2023.
Nice to see a more equal awards and not all the awards given to a single manufacturer unlike another recent awards from another channel at their live event. Thank you.
I think you left some alternatives off the table for decision making such as in the luxury or ultra-luxury categories. I think the Mercedes Benz EQE350+ and EQS are superb EVs...
Difficult to disagree with any of this, if I'm honest. The EX-30 is definitely an absolutely tremendous package, the MG4 is (currently) unbeatable value and the EV9 is the nuts if you've a big family. Would love this done as a purely "used EV" list too. Used Enyaqs remain my top choice.
Volvo EX30? Strange choice of a car that has yet to be available to actually buy and drive here in the UK. No RHD reviews as yet and all the reviews that I’ve seen say good to flawed. No buttons? Everything through the screen? I’m sure Tesla owners will say it’s OK but this seems even a bigger step, particularly for Volvo who major in safety and this car requires you to take your attention away from driving to do almost anything. Sorry. I remain sceptical at the moment. Happy to be proved wrong. Looking forward to a test drive when it does get here.
I think I'd buy the mg zs EV over the Volvo... Not only is it cheaper it also has similar range and the 470 L boot as well as interior practically seems to me much better.
A Jeep winning the "Urban" Award. I don't know if that is an insult or a compliment to Jeep. . Seriously, thank you so much guys for a wonderful year of shows. I have been a subscriber and a big fan. Absolutely love the review of the Honda EV... "It's fine!"... lol... and I find it exciting to see MG do so well (I look forward to it arriving in N.America). This was a great show. . Can I kindly ask: when you quote figures for range and speed, would it be too much to ask if you could insert at the bottom of the screen a sort of statement of the figure in Metric (or just give both metric and imperial). You know for us people who think in metric - it helps a lot. . I am looking forward to 2024!
Just browsed through all your videos and I can't find any real world mileage test comparisons or any that involve using the public charger network and prices? Don't you think it would be useful for people to learn this type of information as well as how wonderful you think they look and drive?
Great video team and thanks for all the hard work over 2023 .... I have placed my order for a KIA EV9 .. again having never driven it but based on yours and a couple of other excellent first drive reviews ..... I will look forward to more space than my BMW iX 🙂.... BTW I am missing the Kilowatt Half Hour .... bring it back soon 🙂
@@davidlewis4399 I wish David 🙂.... To be honest I did exactly the same with my BMW iX and was not disappointed at all .... I have been all around the car at the launch day in fine detail and the drive reviews from this team and several others all tell the same good story .... In the absence of any demonstrators to test drive and the long anticipated wait time placing an order now was right for me. When I do get a test drive if it is a disaster and I hate it I can always cancel the order
I normally LOVE all your content, but for the first time I'm baffled...how the Jeep could beat any of the products from Hyundai/Kia defies logic. The Kona has better range, cheaper price and the capability to charge faster. Not having Ioniq 5/6 or the EV6 on the list is criminal. All of those vehicles are either cheaper, have better range or both.
Here in New Zealand recently purchased an MG4 price less a govt £3,500 rebate (now ditched by new right wing govt) the 2023 51kw LFP battery with reversing camaras, opd, rear wiper cost £19,300 incl orc. A Bargain, the Ora Cat has just reduced price and comes in at £18K.
Here's a genuine question, why are they the Car of the Year Award 2024, whilst the awards are based on reviews/analysis carried out in 2023? Surely they should be the Car of the Year Awards 2023? Is it just me being dumb?
Only problem is that Volvo are controlling the pricing and on a PCP deal it is expensive even for the base model and not a lot better on a lease. Shame
When new vehicles and products arrive on the market, a large majority of the population wait to see the lifespan longevity and maintenance of the product2027all consumers must be able to manually replace any batteries in consumer products. How will this play out in EV boardrooms?
Hang on...most economical var youve ever tested...did you never test a classic Huyndai Ioniq 28kWh or 38kWh? If I only got 5m/kWh in my 38kWh on a mild spring day I'd be very disappointed!😅 Edit: finished now and I enjoyed that, thanks for all your work throughout the year. Keep up the good work Ginny and team.👍👏
If I got less then 400 miles range in my 2 litre twin cam 16v petrol car I would be very disappointed too.Even more so if it took over 3 minutes "re charge" it.
@@tonyireland2234ok, you just carry on paying an arm and a leg for your smelly petrol then. What else do you get done while you're standing there breathing in poisonous fumes for three minutes, anything? I get my weekly shop done while my car is charging and it costs a third as much as my previous petrol car to do so. I have no home charging but if I did I'd save even more. But you carry on mate, no skin off my nose.
The problem I have is that I take great interest in the cars in China, which to be frank are pretty spectacular. So I just look at all this and think of it as a bit of a dogs dinner really. Geely is a case in point. The EX30 made in China and a first class car, but look at all the rest, Xiaomi SU7, what about the Zeekr 007. (Geely). When are these cars going to come over to Europe and the UK. It’s like I’m watching a sort of poor mans/womans version of EV buying, all the best are hidden from sight. Sorry Electrifying, you do a fantastic job, but us consumers are living in a parallel universe right now. Social media is showing us all the fancy goodies available (China), and your’e showing us all the half eaten sandwiches. arghhhhhhhh. (Ps, keep up the good work).
"There is a recent conspiracy suggesting that various overseeing authorities appear uninterested in intervening and are consequently allowing insurance companies demanding outrageous premiums for electric cars without any apparent justification. This should be a matter of concern for the relevant authorities, especially considering that car insurance is compulsory, and the importance of a cleaner environment cannot be overstated. It is plausible that this conspiracy is being financed by oil companies leveraging their vast resources."
Or perhaps they look at the profit/loss/risk implications. If EV's are so good why is everybody promoting, defending, discounting them ? I get sick of seeing them Porshe 911 adverts.
One of the factors in pricing car insurance is the cost to replace if stolen, or written off. Most EVs cost a lot more than petrol so therefore the insurance premiums need to rise to cover that potential cost. My husband has a Tesla 3 and his insurance is around £700, my insurance is £130 😊 my 13 year old Honda Jazz is only valued at around £4K, 10 x less than the Tesla.
Because usually, on the car industry, and Electrifying would be no exception, 2024 prizes are set to be given to cars that were in the market from November 2022 to November 2023. The E-C3 is now on beforehand registration mode, but there are no production units on the streets right now. Obviously, its inclusion on the 2025 edition is more than likely certain given that it is a market changer car.
BYD dosent sell more electric cars than Tesla, they include Hybrids into the EV total, anything with a petrol engine in it is not an EV no matter how they try to spin it. BYD is second largest BEV maker. 2min on google makes it obvious, these people need to get their facts straight.
Had my long awaited test drive of a EX30 today, what a disappointment! Poor software and poor build quality, from the specs this car was looking to be prime contender for my next car, now it's well down the list. Volvo have form with poor quality on small 'badged' cars if we remember the old 340/360, seems it's come back to haunt them. Several items didn't work properly, heated steering wheel wouldn't turn off, best that could be done was switch it down to 1, glove box wouldn't open, bonnet needed two people to get it open, car would not power down unless getting out and locking doors. Lane assist made the MG4 seem perfect! I'm very used to driving across Europe using my TomTom as speedo in corner of windscreen of van, the speedo position just doesn't work on the Volvo.
I can’t believe smart #1 didn’t get anything. With ex30 being a small family car of the year? 😅 a family car without a decent amount of space for the rear passengers 😂😂😂 Did Volvo pay you a lot for this promotion? 😂😂😂
The Tesla Model Y is the best selling car in the world. Surely it deserves an award for something? BTW, my electric car is not a Tesla, so I feel I am reasonably objective about this.
@@sandyfordd1843 I suppose Elon Musk would call it minimalist 😉. It must have something to recommend it, otherwise it wouldn’t be the best selling car in the world. The range and efficiency are excellent, the Tesla charging network is great, it has lots of space, it handles pretty well and has class leading driver assistance systems. In spite of all that,I went for a BMW i4, which I love.
I love this list, your enthusiasm, and the fact that you declare the Model 3 as the best used EV of the year... As I just upgraded from my 2013 Leaf to a used Model 3 long range 😃
i like the one that uses diesel..they're all pants. I have now hit 60k in my ev and owned it for 2 year 2 months and i hate the thing. Other than the fact they are expensive, completely lie about the range and only good for people who do a jolly to the shops every week, the one thing i really hate is the data collection. They want to track everything you do otherwise you cant pre-heat the car in the morning...stuff em. roll on hydro, oh and second hand depreciation, thats no good either with the need for new duracells
But EV's only cost £0.00000001 per mile. They do 0-60 in 0.0001 seconds which obviously they do 10000 times a day.As a bonus their depreciation is only 0.00001% per decade. That is irrelevant though as they are only £1 new.
@tonyireland2234 grow up!!! What a stupid childish immature ridiculous comment!! It cost us £4-50 for 280 miles.... not as cheap as you say but much cheaper than mugs who pay for petrol!! Next stupid comment????? 😂😂
While the MG4 EV may be cheap, it still looks ugly from the outside. Which is a real shame. _But I hasten to add this is just a personal thought._ I know people do like it's looks and if ever they need help in finding their guide dogs.... ;-))...
Oh dear, I've never seen anything worse. In fairness, those 3 lovely girls don't know very much about cars. Embarrassing is a word I'd use and that's being conservative.
You do realise them mines are actually copper mines with cobalt being a by-product during processing. If you have copper pipes in your home then shame on you.
I'm sorry, but concerns about child laborers in the Congo are rather shallow when there are child laborers in Ghana and elsewhere working in the cocoa industry that produces a lot of chocolates Westerners love. There are plenty more examples of exploitation of child laborers for key ingredients in products Westerners enjoy. So, picking and choosing outrage becomes convenient when applied to products we may not choose to use.
@@benjaminsmith2287 had the awards been about Cocoa then I would have commented….the video was about electric cars and comment about batteries which made me reply as I did…..of course you may gather I am a long way from buying an electric car,but too many people think they are doing right when it is exactly the opposite….
@@marygaleac Fair point. Thanks. I just find it hard to take a moral stand because so many of the products we use exploit unprotected or underage labor around the globe.
Paying one of the highest rates of fuel duty in the civilised World...😂😂 When you could be driving at an 8th of the cost of petrol..and charge up at home. No more having to drive to petrol stations...
And your awards do nothing for British workers jobs, nithing to put bread on their families tables, shame on you, but youre ok right? Getting paid to advertise these foreign built cars
