Nice demo! I just bought one to put in the loop of my Superego Good value for a purpose like that, saves me using a more expensive phaser in a dedicated loop. Good one EHX!
Thanks for the great review! I do like this, and would like to play it myself, but based on demos I think I prefer the Small Stone. I actually like the slightly low-fi sound of it, I think it has character. I do like the additional knobs on the Bad Stone!
Is your sweater white and gold, or blue and black? Lol, great review! Im trying to decide what I want my first phaser to be. The MXR EVH Phase 90, or the EHX Bad Stone? Do I want the straightforward pure phase, or the extra little effects? Im just not sure i like the tone of the bad stone vs the mxr. Idk what to do
If anyone has this pedal, is it me, or does it sound like it muddy ups the lower end when played with OD. I have a script phase 90 and want a different flavor. It's between this or the small stone. Thanks!
@Erik Richey Yes, and due to that I'd put the MXR pre-gain, while the Bad Stone works well pre or post-gain. I find the MXR too extreme when placed after an OD/Fuzz/Distortion etc. The Bad Stone is quite resonant in the upper mids.
Very different machines. Bad Stone has a much more filtered feel, rolling off quite a bit of bass which can effect signal level depending on what you're using it for. Small Stone has a very wide feeling too it, Bad Stone is relatively subtle. The feedback is very interesting on Bad Stone, and the manual switch turns the unit into almost a kind of special eq on which it is really easy to find real sweet spots. I really like both but for large impact phasing, Small Stone every time.
