It's defo one of the coolest guitar effects I've ever heard!! I really enjoy listening to these tunes. I think it's a good solution to have an organ effect like this one when there's no keyboard player in a band. People would be a bit surprised on gigs hearing these organ tunes in a band without keyboard player :)
There should be a EHX Blade+B9+C9 pedal, where you can pan any of the 18 sounds to either left or right wet output, or simply have all of them in one place.
This is Great, I really really wish that you guys would do something similar but that models different instrument with each channel, so number 1 could be the sitar, then an organ, a synth, a saxophone, bass that kind of thing. Ten years ago I would have said it wouldn't sound great, but with how great this sounds i'm sure its possible. I know you already have pedals that do some of these sounds but a combined set of sounds 'under one roof' would be great.
Looks like a fun pedal if you don't want to buy a Hog 2. The Mello flutes don't sound as good as Bill's Hog 2 demo of Strawberry Fields . The Telstar and Farfisa are excellent. This really looks like a Hog For Dummies. Shame if you already bought a B9, eh? And as usual Bill's playing is brilliant. This sounds so good I can't help but wonder if Bill is going direct line in thru his Kemper or using a speaker cab.
Can you or has anyone played this thru a Bass? Can the unit handle it? I guess these questions are for you EHX. I await the answers from you and I'll imagine someone else out there... Very cool unit I'm gonna get one!
00DirectorsCut00 Basically the same principle, emulating the sound of an organ, but the presets are slightly different on the C9. Check out the demo of the B9 and compare ;)
That third sound --- like a Farfisa or a Vox --- would be good for a guitarist who always envied Ray Manzarek of The Doors. He died at the age of 74 in 2013, I think.
Bought one today, played with it in Guitar Center for about 15 minutes before dropping the $230 down to own it, it sounded so bad ass that a small crowd had gathered around me wondering what the hell I was using. The Deep Purple, Beatles, Doors and Led Zeppelin tones are dead on! Great for clearly played notes and chords., not for shredding on lead solos or punk and thrasher metal.
Simply amazing playing by Bill Ruppert. It is not easy playing a guitar and making it sound like an organ, even with a fabulous pedal like this or the B9. You have to completely restructure your chords and melodies. Impressive.
EHX was really clever with the puns they used for some of the names of the sounds. 'Lord Purple' is a nice nod to Jon's epic Hammond tone with the Purple. Blimp... Led Zeppelin perhaps? Well, I loved JPJ's organ sound on 'Your Time Is Gonna Come' so that one is cool. The name for the church organ sound in 'Let It Be' threw me a little. The EHX demo video shows a photo of Beatles Paul seated at an organ. I thought that was funny since Billy Preston played that session. Then it hit me... Preston? Press Tone! BRILLIANT. So, am I the first person to get this clever pun?
It is going to take me WEEKS to put all of my brain back into my head after scraping and collecting it off the walls. This pedal is simply not possible. I am being PUNKED, right? My ears look like over-baked cornchips. My jaw went through the floor. I'll never find it. I can't stop weeping and laughing at the same time. No, this pedal only exists in theory. Little green men are FAR more likely. I am done making music. I am going to make lovely clay pottery. Yes, that's it. Lovely clay pottery.
OMG LOL!!! thank you! I laughed for 2 minutes straight while trying to read this comment. And yes, this pedal is pretty flipping awesome. My bank account can't handle all the cool gear on my list. This one is probably going to the top.
i purchased my C9 on Monday and have not fired it up yet.. did not even try it at the store... so reading things like this, hilariously give me hope i made the right call!
Dammit EHX I already bought the B9 and the Pitch Fork. Now I'm seriously considering this thing too. Any chance I could trade my B9 in for a little off a C9?
I got my first Electro-Harmonix pedal in 1982 (1970s Small Stone for $30). This is by far the best EHX demo I've ever seen in store, online, or anywhere else. Fabulous playing!
It is an amazing specialty pedal... But I am not fooled.... You are an extremely good player and the material you are playing is making that thing shine WAY more than most of us could.
I have one of these. It works pretty well, but you really need a compressor along with it to even out the volume. At least I do. The volume can really jump up and down at times.
A great trick if your dynamic playing is all over the place , is to turn the pedal down volume wise and it will force you to play harder and more even or at the peak of the pedals output. Of course a comp will help. We did add a comp to the other 9s.
This pedal is my secret weapon for my clean sounds. I have it on the Mello Flutes setting w/ the organ mix around 9-10 o'clock in front of a reverb and when it rings out you hear the organ swell in. It's so magical
I have the , key 9 , the Mel 9 , and the B9 For home recording they are an absolute game changer Thanks Guys I think the Synth 9 will be next , cheers.
🍻🍺🍻 250 bucks , not cheap but a lot of fun playing through this , please lets us know how is it, i am planing to buy this and the strings one very soon, i am saving, greetings
@@Toxodeth1984 I have one and it's fun to play around with. I've also made a playlist of songs that have the organ sound (aside from the examples in this video). The idea is to finger the chords like an organ player would.
the Mellotron sound is incredible! I saw that he plays guitar as he would play organ, that needs to be a very good guitarist to use it totally (very probably),playing accords and melodies in the same time. This demonstrator is a god when he plays.very strong!
To quote John Belushi in 'Animal House' (when the horse died in Dean Wormer's office): "HOLY SHIT!!". I MUST get one of these. Then I'll call my boss and tell him I have been kidnapped by ISIS, that'll buy me some time to get fully acquainted with this awesome lil' box. My Ibanez Destroyer (DT520FM), volume pedal and DOD FX96 Analog Delay can't wait to hook up with this beautiful thang. Aw man, my solo to Tommy Bolin's 'Dreamer'... To quote "Flounder": "Oh boy, is this great!" I guess I'll have to learn Deep Purple's 'You Keep On Moving' and the intro to 'Might Just Take Your Life'. I may need more time - I'll call my boss and tell them ISIS just chopped off my head. Oh, yeah, right. I'll have someone else place that call. In closing, I shall quote Gunny Hartmann in 'Full Metal Jacket: "Outstanding, Private Pyle!!"
COMBINE THE B9 AND THE C9 IN ONE PEDAL !!! You put digital control knobs so that you can program and save your custom banks of tones. You add one footswitch to go up the banks, one footswitch to go down the banks, and one jack input for a standard expression pedal to control the rotary (or whichever other parameter which one should obviously control with an expression pedal). And you have it ! The ultimate "must have" Organ Machine for guitarists.
This is why they offer BOTH units so they can make enourmous profits as some will most like just purchase just the B9 or C9 units. But yeah, i feel you it would be a novel idea if they "should" offer a unit such as this for our MultiEffects Unit pedal board daisy chain layout.
My exact thoughts. Well I'm blown away. Why spend a a fortune looking for a guitorgan or guitar synth. When I can get another pedal. Or why hire a keyboard player (headache) when I can play keyboards myself. Problem solved. Lol.
This is an awesome pedal, I've had one for about a year....brilliant! I have sent EHX a suggestion for a horn section pedal...could you imagine being able to put sax or trumpet with your guitar, or use the full horn section.....c'mon EHX!
I'm not a guitarist BUT as a keyboardist I used to use a Yamaha TX802 midi module back in the 1980's. It was capable of frequency priority ie. You could set up a patch of 4 voices say, all with saxes brass of your choice and label them with harmonic priority ie. valve trombone on lowest voice then Tenor sax above it. Flugel horn above that and alto sax on top. With 8 mono assignable audio outs you could have the horns each going to sep audio channels. That module was basically an 8 part multi-timbral version of the Yamaha DX7II. There are bound to be gadgets today that can achieve similar things. You'd need a midi gtr to drive it of course.
Check out the Mel9 tape replay pedal. It's an another pedal from the 9 series and contains mellotron sounds. Mellotrons are basically the worlds first sample based keyboard and use tapes to play back samples when a key is pressed. Most often these samples would be orchestral sounds, such as String Orchestras, String quartets, Solo strings, woodwinds (such as on Strawberry fields forever by The Beatles, or Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin), but also brass (as well as choirs too). EHX came up with the Mel9, which basically puts these mellotron sounds into a guitar pedal, which is polyphonic and controlled by the guitar. The Mel9 has a Brass setting, which can be adjusted to have the dynamics of horns. Ironically it even comes with a Saxophone sound (which is weird for a mellotron, since I don't think saxes were used with a mellotron, since saxes are pretty small and affordable, and the whole idea of the tron was to harness the power of large string, choir and brass ensembles and compact it into a keyboard) but it does have a rather decent, proggy Sax sound. I own one and it's honestly an amazing pedal. The only downside is it's pretty expensive, however I don't think it's any more expensive than the B9 or C9 or any other 9 series pedals. Absolutely worth the money though, and it really opens up your palette as a guitar player, considering that the original mellotron itself is nowadays (ironically) as accessible as an actual orchestra, meaning it's hard to get one (besides the mellotron was an absolute pain in the ass, and this pedal literally recreates only the positive aspects of the mellotron. The original Mellotrons where awkward, clunky and broke often and a general pain in the ass to maintain. This pedal renders the original mellotron useless, essentially replacing it). Try it. I will leave a link to the video of it under the comment. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MiTHc8d9D20.html
Where was this stuff back in the 60's 70's 80's 90's and the first ten years of the 2000's ?!?!? It's so awesome I can't get over this and the B9 units!!!
Best product demo I can imagine! Loved that you chose the Doors to showcase the 60's sound... And Deep Purple for the lord Purple. Your skills are off the charts!
