Electro-Harmonix SYNTH9 Bass Demo 

I was thinking just the same. The guy in the video seems pretty ignorant to the concept of playing the pedal and not the bass, especially with these kind of effects you need to regard them as instruments of their own regard, and you need to adapt your playing to that. In fact that's the whole point of these pedals, to emulate a different instrument, you can't expect the pedal to do the playing for you and just ignore that fact. Pretty bad demo that doesn't do the pedal justice.

Yep exactly. This pedal is amazing at pads, strings, drones and soundscapes. I run a pitch fork with the 5th into mine with amazing results. If your wanting to play a bass line with synth sounds than something like the mono synth would be a better choice. Don’t listen to the people who say “it doesn’t track well”. They aren’t using it correctly. It’s a fantastic stomp box!

The BOSS SY-1/200 are much more forgiving of technique. They also have a switch for bass or guitar, which alters the voicing/octave so the tones are not always rumbling around in the lower register.

If it's like other 9 pedals, no.

Do you mean standard A string (55 Hz) , or low B tuned down to A 27,5 Hz ?

oh :D I mean five string bass with low B string. I heard this ehx models(mel9 c9 etc) are made for guitar and can't make good sound with lower notes than bass guitar's A string.

I tried the C9 and had trouble with the low E until I used a clean gain like the Bass Soul Food. It really helped drive those low notes. I did not try a 5th string tho.

I just tried this with a couple different basses at the store and yes, it has very annoying latency. Some of the synths are better than others, but overall disappointing.

Would be pretty cool if someone made a plethora type pedal but with dirt and synth effects to match with the plethora

None of my digital EHX pedals can take batteries.

@Sensible Talk Man... this was some time ago, can't remember exactly - and I've been focussing on trumpet this year so I'm not into bass gear that much lately. From what I remember I was looking for some funky / disco dirt analog sound - think Bootsy Collins or early 70's Larry Graham sound - and I guess the Boss was too clean for me. I ended up buying a used Mark Bass Supersynth, another kind of beast though.
