Electroforming - Making of the silver ring «Mrkos» discloses one of my weird workflows to achieve these nerdy jewelry pieces from outer space. Hope you can pick up some inspiration for your own electroforming game.

We free our jewelry from secret compartments in abandoned ruins on forbidden planets far from our solar system. Protected by dangerous mechanisms or unsolvable puzzles that long extinct races have devised to prevent their treasures from falling into the wrong hands.
We dig up old maps, search for artifacts, translate inscriptions on rare relics and put all these clues together to track down those secret places that contain magical treasures. Heirlooms from great emperors, jewelery from queens from entire planetary empires, decorations from great women warriors who have conquered entire solar systems.
Well. Sort of. At least we imagine such wild stories when we create the designs for our jewelry. We want our pieces to radiate a mysterious story and look as if they were thousands of years old and out of this world.
In fact, we create our designs by 3D scanning odd shapes or strange organic objects. We add detail and features to these models through digital sculpting on the computer. The design is then 3D printed and electroformed with a heavy layer of copper. If the design calls for it, we electroform another layer of silver over the copper. We use all kinds of gemstones and other peculiar materials to finish the piece. Finally we have several weathering routines to make the piece look like it is old and not from this planet. This spaced-out jewelry workflow ensures pieces that are guaranteed to be unique and one of a kind.

@@xeno_arch9887 I hear you! For what it's worth, you're doing a fantastic job balancing :) What do you do in your day job? BTW, using the slip-ring motor to rotate parts is brilliant.

@@daveromero3879 thx mate! Im a Sound Designer at our national radio and tv broadcaster 😇 rotating the piece has upped my eforming results big time. But my submerged fishtank-filterpump had the Biggest impact on eforming quality! If you havent tried it, give it a shot 🐟🐟

Hi, beautiful creation I loved seeing the details on your tank set ups. I currently electroform with copper, and want to get into working with silver -- what is the solution / anode that you use? I have been looking for information everywhere and cannot find a solution here in the US. Is it an electroforming solution or electroplating solution? Thanks!

HejHej Kara, Thanx for the Love! I use the silver-solutions from tifoo. (www.tifoo.de/en-uk/silver-plating-solution) with a anode made of fine silver. Unfortunately Tifoo only ships within Europe because it takes a lot of paperwork to ship potentially hazardous chemicals to the US. But you could maybe try a Service like eshopwedrop.com. Maybe you also want to join facebook-groups like "Electroform This!" where a lot of US based eformers maybe have some better tips for you. Whatever you do, never buy cyanidic silver solutions. These are very toxic and dangerous and mainly used in commercial plating. Look for non-cyanidic silver Solutions that can be used at home.

Could you make a clip about how to clean all the stuff and keep it for last long using?

This is truly a work of art. I love the idea of electroforming with silver. How thick do you go with the silver ? And how long/at what voltage for a piece that size?

HejHej Deb ... Thanx you for the Love! I target around 50 microns of silver. With my kind of cyanide-free Silver-Elektrolyte this takes a bit more than two hours at 1V/0.35A to eform. Electroforming with silver is a Blast. But remember to get a Cyanide-free Solution. There are a lot of Silver-Solutions out there containing Cyanide. Wrong handling of these can be lethal! Please be Safe!

@@xeno_arch9887 omg I have so many questions. Firstly, I see your silver solution is blue! The cyanide ones are typically clear, and in Canada we have a cyanide free one too that is also clear. What kind do you use? And is your electrolyte finite or does the silver anode constantly replenish? I'm using a cyanide free solution but cannot seem to get more than a quick flashing out of it no matter how long I bathe it. Teach me oh great one!!! 🙏

@@debjasinski2846 HejHej Deb ... No Problem, keep them questions coming 😉 My Solution is blue because it has been slowly contaminated by the copper-solution. First I always eform my pieces with a thick layer of copper to give them strength and durability, then I rinse the piece, then I hop over to the Silver Solution. Even if I rinse the Piece in between baths, there is always a small amount of copper solution that finds its way over to the Silver-Solution. Chemically this is not a Problem, but optically the Silver Solution eventually turns blue after a few uses. My Favorite Brand of Copper and Silver Solution is TIFOO.DE. Their Solutions are Hasslefree and with their online calculator my pieces turn out blingy every single time. Like in the Copper Bath where you have Copper Anodes, that will be eaten up, you use Anodes made of Fine-Silver to replenish the Silver-Electrolyte in the Process. The Thickness of the Layer mainly depends on your Solution. The Silver-Solution from TIFOO.DE manages to lay down a pretty nice Layer that can be polished with Steel-Brushes afterwards. But if you want really thick layer, say 500 Microns and more, there is no way around Cyanidic Solutions. But ill definitely keep my hands off this toxic stuff. Hope that cleared up some things! happy Eforming!
