Electrolux Electric Dryer Replace Heating Element

Third time having to change out my heating element, I use this video every time. One thing to do, when you have this apart, clean, vacuum, and wipe out the lint trap area, you’ll be glad. That not only allows for a clearer air passage, but also prevents 🔥!

I’ve now replaced mine 4 times over the past 7 years using your video (wish the replacement part lasted longer)! You’ve saved me lots of $ in service calls. My bit of advice is to drive screws into the new holes on the replacement part & remove them before actually installing. Sometimes the replacement part holes are a tad small which makes them more difficult to get the screw in, especially in tight places ;)

Thanks some much for doing these videos. I did this exact repair today. Ordered the part on Sunday, it arrived today. With my phone sitting next to me and this video playing I had the job done in 30 minutes. I did not remove the drum though. My dryer is stacked and I completed the repair with it still on top of the washer. All in all I saved $350 and 2 weeks of down time per quote from local appliance repair shop. Also fixed two different dish washers using your videos in the past. You have saved me close to $1000 in repair costs and weeks of down time. Thanks again!!

The only thing I think you should state better is that the sensors don’t pull out. When you push the tabs down the sensor comes off by pulling toward you not upwards. They are like cell phone connectors. Something along those lines. Otherwise it was fantastic. I’m legally blind and I fixed my dryer thanks to this video. This is, by far, the best repair video for this dryer's heating element replacement (and I'm sure it's great for similar models). Great work.

For any that need to do this, skip removing the drum. Just use a ratchet with 1/4 inch socket and Phillips bit to get to the back screw on the element. Pull the wires from the element while it is still in the dryer. The thermostat and thermo-fuse are easier to remove with the element removed from the dryer. Thread the back screw into the new element and remove again to make it easier to get it started once installing it into the heat duct. Just my 2 cents to help you save 200 dollars.

This was a pretty simple repair. But the ONE thing that was a pain was the screw in the back of the heating element housing. The smallest screwdriver I had would not fit. Luckily we had a ratchet with a Phillips head attachment, which made it simple. But I would suggest getting one of these before you do it.

The element can be replaced from the back without this level of disassembling. This is the way a shop would do it to charge more labor. However, if you are going to replace it from the front, this is an excellent guide.

Great vid. I've been here 3x now. Stupid me? I have replaced this POS part 3 times in 4 years. Twice with Amazon parts. Once with OEM. All warranties honored thankfully. Amazon parts lasted a year. Current OEM part lasted a whole 6 months and was bought from distributor. It now also has the worst turn around time for replacement. Super pissed.

Guys, thanks for the video. I just completed the replacement myself and couldn't have done it without this guide. I have two lessons learned I would like to share with others: 1) Removing the drum is called optional in the video but it is essential. 2) Removing and replacing the screw holding the heating element housing in the heat duct (first shown at about 3:35) is very difficult because there is not room for a normal-sized screwdriver. Ensure you have a short screwdriver that will fit in the limited clearance area before you start. Again, thanks. -- Mike

Excellent video - easy, clear, accurate. I added one step that made life easier - For the rear mounting screw that is hard to reach, I ran the screw in and out of the new hole in the new element prior to trying to screwing it in place. This allowed for finger tightening the screw before snugging.

Thanks so much! I did the whole job in 90 minutes. I did NOT remove the tub. I just didn't want to deal with the zig zag pulley belt which is hard to see. The video makes it look way more accessible than it is. It's possible to keep the tub in place, you only need a short screw driver to remove the heating element mounting screws. The mounting screw for the heating element which is in the back is harder to reach (and it's the longest screw you'll deal with) is a pain, but you can get to it. If I had to do this again, it would take 45-60 minutes.

This is a great repair video. But it has one problem. It shows this disassembly of a brand new machine. Most of us are repairing the heating element or something internal after many years of service. In my case the front panel and the internal panel had become slightly fused together from the heat. So when it came time to remove the front panel it required significant prying force to separate the two. In the process the four retaining clips were broken. I reinstalled the front panel after the repair without the clips because I didn’t have any replacements. Seems to have worked just fine. The point is disassembly of an older machine was not near as easy for me as the video shows.

Excellent well done video. Very clear.... I watched it a few times and was able to easily do the work with the video for reference. I found my heating element at a local ma & pa appliance shop for $ 118. The owner was old school and as he handed me the new element, he took it out of the box and did a continuity check to verify the elements were good. Thanks again.

Thanks for fantastic video, fixed my heating element in about 1-1/2 hours, my dryer was a slightly different model (had 3 wires on the heater and my wires plugged into the control board in different places) but if you pay attention when you take wires off your will be fine, I used a sharpie to note on the wires where I took them off. Also, my heater was not bad just warped over and the elements were touching the side of the housing, thus shorting out. I bent the heater bracket back to center, tested it for continuity with a volt meter and put it back together. Fixed.

This is the best tutorial out there. My model had a ground wire connection on the heating element, as well as a third heating coil connection, but it will be clear how to disconnect and reconnect. The worst part is removing and reinstalling the screw connecting the heating element to the rear wall. You’ll need a stubby screw driver.

Great video. Concise and correct. Used it twice now, since the first replacement element failed after 4 months. Got a different brand of replacement this time. As good as this video is, I hope I do not have to watch it again.

Great video. Only took me about 2.5 hours with removing the dryer and hose. Cost was only about $30 from eBay. I didn't remove the drum and used an electric screwdriver to speed it up. Everything had a lot of lint that I had to vacuum out.

The only thing that you didn't mention was to reconnect the ground wire on the side of heating element. Thanks again for making this detailed video that was easy to do without my husbands help.

I used this video to replace the heating element in my Frigidaire affinity fase7073la0 and it made it smooth as butter. My part number was 134792700 but it was all the same concept. Makes it easy and saves money on service charges

best video! we left lint trap out and 6 socks got stuck in blower....after 3 years lots in debris in blower assembly and good chance to clean. saved us over $100

I did this fix 2 times already, much easier to fix it from the back, second time fixed very fast just in 30 min because I know what to do now :). Purchased not original heater from Amazon for 56 $ . First replacement heater worked just little more then 2 years, dryer using almost every day for about 2-3 times.

worked great for me so thank you Repair Clinic - definitely need offset or stubby to get to the one screw holding the heating element in. whenever I work with something like that, I always worry about things catching on fire later. let's hope not. also, everything inside the dryer was covered in lint so I cleaned up all that while I had everything apart - I don't think that should happen. I think I'll be heading back to the repair clinic website to buy a new belt though. my old heating element definitely did not look good.

Very good, but missing some steps. 1) the spring holding the belt is attached only loosely, and comes off each time I try to route the belt around the pulleys (solution: put a clip on both ends of the spring, route belt, remove clips). 2) aligning the door panel is non-trivial, and there are extra tabs that were not mentioned (solution: you can remove those, as they mostly used to hold up the panel while you align it). 3) our heating element has 4 electrical connections, not 2, so when I went to rotate the heating element, the last one snagged -- was I supposed to remove that one as well? (solution: yes, remove ALL the clips you can find, and remember which clip goes where because the black and silver clips are NOT inter-changable, ex, take a picture). 4) to remove the back screw holding the heating element to the back of the dryer, you'll need a VERY short screwdriver, as the demo unit has a slightly different bend at the back and does not obscure the screwdriver. 5) clean the fan blades by scraping your finger hard along them. A dirty fan is why the air move slowly, and that overheats the heating element. Don't demo on a new unit! It's too clean and you're not showing where the lint needs to be removed. Our heating elements burn out every 10-16 months, and we ONLY use low heat now. They cost $30-50, and, in our experience, usually come damaged as they don't pack them very well. Opinion: Electrolux did a poor job of designing this. 2.5 hours to replace it. The heating element should be accessible if it's going to be replaced so frequently. Position your unit where you can easily move it away from the walls (our unit is in a tiny room and can't be moved, so I climb over it to unplug it and unscrew the top lid.

ACE has the perfect tools for this job, 2051, offset screwdrivers ... 2 pcs. #1 & # 2... but I did also need the stubby, only for the bottom brackets.

Stubby Philips head is Necessary. But I didn’t need to remove the drum. Only the top and front. Most of the screws are Philips/square drive combo screws. A square driver works really well.

Great video, well explained and detailed. One question: When installing the new heating element the black and yellow wires were reversed - 4:17 vs 5:29. Was this intentional or does the order matter? BTW: My dryer had three terminals. So, when I reinstalled I marked each with a marker and labeled each wire so that they would go back in the same order.

Excellent video At 2:25 the far left connector there are TWO DIFFERENT positions.. Electrolux eimgd60jiw3 using the position NOT SHOWN (it's next to the two instructed to remove) NOT the position shown (four vs five wires in connector).. WILL GIVE AN E71 error if incorrect. I guess if you don't disconnect NO PROBLEM

Had a tech stop by. Told me 450 to fix it. Told him have a nice day.

I replaced my hearing elements in late September. The old one had heated up so much it warped the inside metal panel causing the elements to fall against the casing and then started heating the casing. On the first dry cycle after replacing the circuit breaker kept going off after 20 minutes. Then it would do it after 5 minutes on low heat. Tore apart my dryer again to find my brand new heating element had done the same thing as before. Literally burnt up the inside metal panel within 3 months. (Barely used). I checked the continuity of the thermal fuse and the high limit thermostat at both room temperature and high heat. It kicked off about 250 or so and it's rated 260. If it is not those 2 things, what is causing my heating element to get so hot, it started literally burning up it's own casing. (By the way, checked for lint etc and it is fairly clear.)

Wow, I'd pay a local dryer repair $200, and after seeing this, I'd still pay someone $200. But great video. $200.0 another part went, the motherboard, so repair would be $550 extra. I'm dumping this, and buying new. Nothing made to last, unless you know how to fix it yourself

So many un-needed steps to remove and replace the element. You can access the element for replacement from the rear of this unit.

Here is a good point, why does the heating element only last around three years or so before having to be replaced. And no the excuse that thing are made this way now is no excuse. There are other models that last years longer with the same systems in it. But electrolux seems to made defective products from mexico. Lets bring products back to the USA that last longer. We don't have to charge a arm and a leg for them either. And labor for this operation cost at lease 350.00 dollars or more.for a fifty dollar part.

We have started this repair, but are unable to get the front panel off the dryer. We have removed the 6 screws, but there seems to be something on the sides still holding it on. It just won't budge. Any suggestions?

Can't get the front cover to come off. Followed the steps and removed the screws, but when I lift up, it doesn't budge.

Broke the tab when i pressed it to release wires. The screws are in so tight its been an hour and cant get face plate off. I guess I'm buying a new dryer.

I changed heating element and both sensors on it...it ran for a few days no problem. Now it has error code 65 and No heat..so I changed limiter on exhaust...still No heat!!! What is going on with my dryer???

I replaced the heating element, and after a while, it still throws the E64 code...and now it doesn't heat at all (it was heating before up to a point in the cycle where it threw the code). What would be my next step?

okay so I got it all apart, but I have hit a wall, what brand, size of a Phillips can reach that back screw to the heating element?

Your shop must be union. You could’ve went through the back and cut out half those steps.
