The low voltage developed is due to the subtractive polarities of emf induced in two opposite side of the coil. They tend to cancel out each other, however they're unequal so there's a small potential available at the voltmeter terminals

I wouldn’t call that an experiment, I would call it a demonstration. You understand the phenomenon, you are demonstrating it. An experiment is when you are testing a hypothesis and you don’t know what the outcome will be.

I think I can call it a demo and expt both since we used different nails(thickness to control the resistance), changed the length of the wire means number of coils multiple times and different ampermetre to see the deflection, finally it worked!

You should use a material with high permeability in the core so that all the flux lines go through it. Air is the weakest conductor of magnetic flux. Then you should rapidly move the magnet to and fro from the coil. You’ll get a higher deflection.

The change in the magnetic flux is too little mostly because you are moving the magnet OUTSIDE of the coil. In a perfect experiment this would produce NO current. The only current you are producing here is due to experimental error and arrangement imperfections, against the magnetic flux law. You should put a little magnet INSIDE the coil.
@albekp
@albekp 3 года назад
In addition, when you enter inside the coil you should rotate the magnet (in the video the magnet has the wrong orientation), in such way that the magnetic field change in the same direction of the coil axis in order to maximize the change of the magnetic flux
@deepakkapoor081
@deepakkapoor081 3 года назад
I dont think its an experimental error after the calibration, the magnet I am using is very powerful, weak magnet did not induced measurable current, and in addition ...less number of turns were not helpful either!

I have to get an extremely small bar magnet to slip through the coil, the deflection would me more in that case my hypothesis!
@manla8397
@manla8397 2 года назад
@@deepakkapoor081 I agreed with Ismail. Moving the magnet along the coil didn’t change the total flux inside. Therefore it won’t produce a strong emf. Instead of using a small magnet, have you thought about using a larger coil instead. I used the school standard coil, I can produce a deflection at least 20 times more than yours. Just my two cents.
@deepakkapoor081
@deepakkapoor081 2 года назад

@manla8397
@manla8397 2 года назад
@@deepakkapoor081 schools usually have some standard equipment for demonstrations. One of them are induction coil. The coil diameter is about 5cm. They are quite robust and can be used for many different experiments. For example IEC produces a lot of scientific equipment and exports them over the world. When you slid the magnet along the coil, the total magnetic flux inside the coil did not change much. In fact I suspect the current was produced by the unsteady hand movement rather the horizontal movement along the coil. You may find some videos in RU-vid about induction and see how much deflection (micoamps) they made. BTW where did you get your ring magnet? I retrieved a few from microwave ovens but not as large as yours.
