Upgrading the stock ignition system to an electronic distributor and new coil from East Coast Roadsters, followed by a quick test drive. This video goes through each step of the installation process in detail.
I added a pertronix ignition module to my 1600 "69 and it made a good difference on acceleration and response versus points and condenser which are a waste of money $ 30.00 bucks a set
I've got a 1967.5 1600 that I am considering doing this in . I have a question you advanced the timing 16 degrees. Is that what they recommend or is that something you know. I'm just wondering so when I do mine I get it rite . Good video very much appreciated. Need more roadster videos out there .
16 degrees is the “factory” setting for the 2 liter engine. I believe it is also the recommended setting for the 1600 also. You can visit the tech wiki or discussion forums on 311s.org for more info.
The vacuum advance is still an integral part of the distributor. The distributor has no other way to know of the engine load. In this case, the electronic distributor includes the vacuum actuator as part of its complete assembly.
The negative side wire came from the oem distributor and was removed (around 2:05 in the video). It was replaced with a new wire (actually 2, a positive and negative) from the new distributor.
@@ufixanything thanks for the reply. i missed that in your video. i’m in the process of doing an EL distributor conversion. the oem wiring on our car is a little different from what you had and from wiring diagrams, so we’re a little confused.
@@ufixanything another question for you. we didnt get the harness for the new distributor so we're essentially making it ourselves. which post on the distributor is positive and which is negative? im assuming the one closer to the firewall is negative but not sure
@@knowhere4361 It probably depends on which distributor you have. Mine was custom built by East Coast Roadster (www.eastcoastroadster.com). Here is a manual for that one: img1.wsimg.com/blobby/go/ba862c46-dfca-4f17-a84a-609ff5d551c1/downloads/Distributor%20Install%20book%209_2019.pdf?ver=1626377707369
