Tha commercial saying the 32x is 6 times more powefull than a 3DO, LOOOOOOL. I miss the 90s and all the... lies. I have a soft spot for Doom for the PS1. The soundtrack is incredible.

QOTD: so many to choose from though I was always partial to QUAKE! had it on PC back in the early 2000s and played a ton of online vs. matches. thankfully nowadays we have the nightdive studios remakes of the original and part 2, pretty great update to the original I'd say.

Doom is such an interesting piece of history. It's a game that was on so many consoles that it simply wasn't made for yet they always got it running. QOTD, Want to say Quake 3 arena since it was the standard for fast paced multiplayer gaming back in the day and still holds up.

Ultimate Doom for MS DOS is probably my all-time favorite game from ID and on some days it's my all-time favorite game of all time. And I have to disagree with EGM on the music. For me, one of the reasons that makes Doom so special is it's music. There is a reason it's been covered by musicians to death. 😀

And that same awesome music composed by Robert Prince blatantly “covered” music by famous hard rock and metal bands of the 80’s and 90’s. It’s amazing they were never sued.

What genius exec thought releasing Quake 3 on the Ps2 prior to it having network play was a good idea? I'm sure there was some intern who asked "wouldn't it be better if we wait until Sony releases the Network Adapter for the PS2 so we can take advantage of that? Market our title as the best online shooter on the system?". The exec just heard "Wait" and immediately voted against it mentally.

Agreed. It makes no sense, especially when you consider how popular Xbox Live proved to be. It's frustrating how little forethought a lot of these companies had at the time. In 2000 - 2001, a lot of these game publishers were still dubious that online gaming would take off on consoles. Imagine if they had just waited a year and been there on day one with the PlayStation 2's online adapter. Quake III could have been a real competitor to SOCOM.

I wasn't prepared for the GBA version to score so relatively high, and especially not prepared to see Doom 3 end up at nr 1! History has not been kind to that game and it's attempts to skew more towards horror than action, but I must remember how incredibly impressive it was considered to be at the time. Though it may be a case of shiny tech impressing more than the actual game design... As for favorite, the one I have most experience with- Quake. That's mostly going on nostalgia though, if I went back and played them all I might come down with a different opinion.

There was a massive divide between console critics and computer critics when it came to Doom 3, and looking back on it now, it's easy to see why. If you were a critic working at a computer-focused magazine, then Doom 3 feels like a massive departure from the first two games. It's slower, less "action-packed," limits the amount of enemies on the screen and just doesn't capture what was great about that original Doom. However, if you're a critic who works at a console-focused magazine, then a lot of those negatives are actually advantages. The slower pace is preferable when using a control pad and the horror theme fit in with console gaming trends at the time. No matter how good the Doom ports were, the magic of that PC game was never really captured on home consoles. Console critics didn't care that it strays far away from the original, because they never connected with the original in the way PC critics did. If anything Doom 3 suddenly made the franchise relevant on consoles, because it felt like something you could play in between Resident Evil and Silent Hill sequels.

Doom 3. Simply Doom with a decent-ish story. Play it in VR on the PSVR1 with the gun thingy. I forget it's name but it has analogue sticks on it so you're not hampered by using the Move controllers.

Huh, I don't think I've ever played an id software game. I was firmly into my Mario-Sonic-Platformer mascot era and was pretty young. I did watch a friend stream the 2016 reboot, and if you find a Doom Guy toy collectable, Doom Guy gives it a fist bump with a little wiggly finger motion, so I'm pretty sure that detail alone makes it my favorite

You should play Commander Keene. Especially the later ones. You can buy a copy on switch for $1 or something. It’s ID software’s platformer. They made it after pitching a PC port of Mario 3 when they remade the first level, and got rejected. They developed smooth scrolling on PC when it wasn’t really possible. It’s not too bad. Just got to get used to shooting enemies not jumping on them.

@@sloppynyuszi I remember hearing that Id pitched the Mario 3 PC port back then! I always forget Commander Keene was an Id software series, I definitely wanna check em out sometime

I was never scared playing Doom 3, sure it was a little creepy at times but I was never out right scared. This was when I played it as a Teen.

One of my fave channels doing full episode on my religion? Praise Davoth! QOTD; I can't really answer this one, their games mean more to me than it is healthy. Without DOOM and Quake I never would've even thought of learning programming, but now it is both my dayjob - and my side-gig with my games. Another sign of my 'religious fanaticism' is my concept called 'id tax'. It means every time they announce a game, I buy whatever hardware I need to play it. From upgrading to 8 Mb RAM to run DOOM II better, all the way to getting PSVR and PS4Pro for DOOM VFR. And here we are again - I never bought a next gen system, but now I have to.

@@DefunctGames That is the plan. Now really just waiting to see what the rumoured 'Pro' versions of this console generation will be about.
@DefunctGames
@DefunctGames 2 месяца назад
Yeah, that makes sense to me. Sounds like the Pro version will probably come out between now and the release of Doom, so there's no rush. Considering how much the last two Doom games got out of the last-generation hardware, I can't wait to see what they can do with this generation.

There aren’t any enhancements on Final Doom? It’s all new console maps, new enemies, lighting, and completely different soundtrack. 😅

That review from 2000 saying to "arm yourself with a keyboard and mouse", wonder if it inspired Emulators on the PC. 😉😂🤣 Just kidding, but would be funny if it was true. As for the question, not a big fan of FPS, mostly because can get attacked from behind and die before you even found out where the attacks came from, always felt cheap to me, but I have played the original Doom, so guess by default I'll make that my answer as that is the only one of these 3 series I have played.

I honestly didn’t like Doom & the early FPS games at the time.. Granted they have improved drastically over the years.. I really like the new Wolfensteins.. Hadn’t tried those others tho

So they rate don't rate doom on ps1 but do rate the inferior final doom for ps1 and give quake 2 ps1 2nd place based on how it controls with the PS1Mouse!? I mean come on who had that, it played terrible with regular ps1 controller. Seems games journism has always been pretty bad.
