Do you have any tips for using electronic gearing? Leave them with us!

I have a road bike with DI2, for adding aero switches, you dont necessarily need to add/change the junction box. On my ultegra hoods, there were two additional available empty sockets you can use directly for an upgrade/connection to the newly switches.

you can hack a di2 climbing shifter (take it apart) and solder wires on the circuit board to connect to any switch placed anywhere on the bike. You can even use the old style shimano 610 sprint shifters with the hydro hoods that way. Fun project if you are a person that is manually inclined. but this is a way you can get Di2 buttons anywhere you want on a bike or aerobars.

You can hide the Shimano radio unit in the head tube area or in the seatpost. Works well with my phone and Wahoo computer.

Very, very useful. Lots of information I didn't know. Thank you, Mark! Are your bars and armrests on your Felt TT the original ones? I have the same bike from the year before. Trying to have my bars and armrests angled like yours, which has proven to not be easy. Thank you again.

I've charged my Di2 while riding the trainer by plugging the junction box into the wall. So yes, you should definitely be able to do the same thing with a mobile power bank on the move.

Anyone know what the connection type is called on the end of the di2 lead?...I want to put a short permanent ext lead from my di2 blip box charge point (which is hidden nicely in the stem) to make it easier to charge.

I’d like to know what head unit you can change screens on and how?

How do you micro adjust with Di2? Mark only showed using the SRAM.

I was also looking to add the Bluetooth device to my DI2 on my Canyon Speedmax SLX. Just to confirm, the device does fit in the rear mech wire hole? It seems rather small on mine.

Charles Dauphinais You can put the WU111 anywhere in the system. Mine is in my seat tube. Mark’s example just showed it being plugged into the system to allow for configuring, before being removed. But there’s no reason not to have it as a permanent part of the system, rather than just adding in when in the workshop.

@@DomGhost12 Oh you are right! I was under the impression he kept it on the bike. I guess I will go back to hiding it somewhere in the handlebar. Thanks.

Charles Dauphinais It does not fit in the rear mech hole on my Speedmax CF. I’ve put it in my extension bars. Make sure to use some tie-wraps to stop the rattle (like the black tails Shimano supplies with some Di2 cables).

I have also a DI2, IMHO the Bluetooth option is a waste of money and more important: Additional waste of energy on the battery and additional gear for failure. The setup you generally do only ones and then never need to touch again.

I have a Speedmax SLX and put my BT sensor in the head tube. Close to my head unit for good connectivity and less power draw. Power consumption is really no issue. I have 12 hrs of riding and battery is at 90%. I know this because I can see it on my head unit, not having to guess where battery life like those w/o it.

I was hoping for some hacks that show how to cheaply turn your manual gears into semi-electronic ones. 🤪😄

Hi there, How much maintenance do they require? Is it reliable in the long run? I'm not converted (yet) ... my fear is being on a ride and be left with breakdown in the middle of my ride.

Have di2 on both road and TT in 25K over past 2.5 years only had a flat battery 2x and that’s because I forgot to charge - I was /am charging every month

di2 battery lasts so long, only an ultra endurance cyclist would need to charge mid ride.

Never unplug / plug Di2 wires without using the TL-EW02 plastic wire tool. It can damage the wires and potentially pull the wires out of the connectors.
@bikerdude221

Your statement is actually incorrect. You can do it bare hands with zero issues... Been doing it since 2011 with ZERO ISSUES

@@bikerdude221 You've gotten lucky. Seen many wires damaged by hand. Just because it's worked for you doesn't make it a "best practice" to do so.
