Thanks John, I keep looking at these. This style with the basic interface seems a bit better than some of the others

Hi Steve, it certainly seems a substantial unit, not super precise but it works ok. Cheers John

Thanks for reviewing this. Yes, it's almost 6 months later, but youtube just now recommended you. I'm interested in electronic loads to test my power supplies. I recently got a small box full of abandoned laptop power supplies. 18.5 to 19.5 volts at 3.5 to 7 amps. My small Drok 35w electronic load doesn't come close to testing these things. And I need to roll my own buck converters to tame these things for my projects. I have an account with Aliexpress, but maybe it's time for me to look closer at Banggood. Now to make time to look at your other vids. Your microscope review looks interesting. Again, thanks!

Hi Dave, & welcome to the channel 👍.. Ive been gaining a few more views & subscribers recently from people telling me that my vids are only just being recommended. Which even though months after upload, is great!. I think perhaps this maybe due to the fact that I changed the channel name recently to what I feel is a more fitting name.. 'Orbiter-Electronics'. The old name 'John-Orbiter' was neither here nor there really so I swapped it. Anyway.. again, its good to see you. Kind Regards John

It appeared that you should be able to separate the display and control pot so you could put the unit into a enclosure of some sort to make it a bit more bench friendly...how does it look on your end John? For ~$50 it looks like a good deal. What fixed it by the way?
@OrbiterElectronics
@OrbiterElectronics 5 лет назад
Hi Dino, yes it could go into an enclosure, a metal one would be fine. A plastic one could also be used as long as it had heat vents etc. I only tested it for shortish periods so that heat sink may get hotter over longer loading periods. It was a simple fix my friend and one I should have known.. Hold the little button in on the rear of the display for a second or two, whilst connecting power. Cheers John

How did you mess it up? Please describe the problem. I would make a good guess that pressing a button should not cause huge problems... although it's hidden for a reason. :) Banggood might help. If all else fails, try holding button and then apply your +12V. Reset?

Should have thought of this myself but was rushing at the time with phones to repair. However your tip worked.. Thank you. You'll be forever remembered in the description 👍 Cheers John

Hello John, there should be a rule against putting anonymous buttons on electronics and then giving them to people like us to tinker with. It sounds like a good buy for the money and it does what it claims - can't ask for more than that. Stay well my friend. Regards, Dave

My guess would be cu1/2 will be calibration points.

Not sure really, as its also the reset button.

Hmm perhaps the Cu is Correction unit? So press once and use the rotary to correct the top meter. Then another press so you can correct the lower one. Looks like a beefy unit john, a perforated case might be a good idea :-)

Hi Harv, I tried that mate but it wouldn't hold it's value. It just worked like the ordinary current value really, I thought it may have been a mA reading or something but no so. Anyway I just learned that the button is also for resetting the unit though, and it works again :) Cheers, John

Hi John. Thanks for the review. Would like to ask what is the maximum current that the load could draw.
@OrbiterElectronics
@OrbiterElectronics 4 года назад
Hi. Maximum power capability is 250W. So max current would depend on voltage. Using Ohms Law we can calculate that at say 10v you could pull 25A through the load which would equate to it's Maximum 250W limit. If we say moved the voltage up a bit to 50v the maximum current would be much less at 5A to give us the same 250W Maximum limit of the unit. Hope this helps John

John, thanks again for your prompt answer. Interested in this load. It's reasonably priced and power capable.

I just recieved a 250W load from Banggood just like this one. I have problems out of the box with set current being off compared to actual sinked current when measured with separate current meter. I also tried the button on the rear of the display which gives me different menu items than described here. I get after a long press "1.u.1", then I can switch between this menu item and "0.u.1" by short pressing button. Then depending on which menu item I have selected, I can continue in the menu with long press of button which then takes me from "1.u.1" to 1.u.2" and "1.u.3". If having selected "0.u.1" to start with, the corresponding menu item values are: "0.u.2" and then "0.u.3". Another long press of button takes me back to voltage and current meter as before pressing any buttons. Now my unit does not manage to set the current any more. I tried reseting the device by holding the reset button whilst powering on the device but had no luck getting the device back to out of the box state. Anyone experienced similar behaviour or have suggestions on how to get the device back to working state?

I also pressed that "do-not-press-this-button"-button.. I get the same menu/display changes as you get, and when it returns to voltage and current display, it does no longer allow me to set the current. Resetting (holding the button while connecting the power) just takes me to "0u1", the same as a long-press does while it is running. I found out that all the "0u" modes gives a current setting of about 2x the value on the display (in mA), and "1u" modes gives a current setting of about 3x the value (the same inaccuracy as when the amps and voltage mode worked) "0u": 55 =1.05A, 100 = 1.99A, 149 = 3.06A, 201 = 4.27A "1u": 33 = 1.00A, 55 = 1.50A, 80 = 2.07A, 149 = 3.53A, 204 = 4.80A

I think I've figured it out. 0u1 is a calibration point, I think it is 1A. 0u2 is the second, at 10A, and 0u3 is the third at 19A. The 1u1, 1u2, and 1u3 seem to do the exact same. Perhaps it is designed for two different products and the 0u values are presets for one and the 1u values for the other. It looks like the number readings in this "calibration" mode are probably the raw values from the 10 bit ADC in the microcontroller. I was able to get mine working by connecting it in series with an ammeter, long-pressing the button until 0u1 comes up, and then slowly adjusting the knob until the ammeter reads 1A. Then long press the button until 0u2 comes up, adjust to 10A, and long press again until 0u3 comes up. Adjust to 19A and then long press once more to finish calibration. Be careful not to turn the knob too far as in this "calibration" mode there is no current limit. I accidentally turned the knob too far and blew up one of the MOSFETs (fortunately they are easy to replace).

Olá amigo, poderia informar como configurar a leitura através da microchave no display, a minha esta completamente desajustada, como faço para reiniciar?
@OrbiterElectronics
@OrbiterElectronics 2 года назад
Hello.. I've not used mine for a long time now but as far as I can remember the button on the rear of the display is just for resetting. To reset the unit.. Try holding down the button on the rear of the display, whilst as the same time powering on. In my case this would reset it to factory settings, and then you would just use the potentiometer to adjust current/load.

So how would you determine the actual capacity of the battery? Rated at??
@OrbiterElectronics
@OrbiterElectronics 5 лет назад
To gain accurate cell capacities something like a bench electronic load or power analyser/tester would get the best results, remembering that depending on the type of cells to be rated the measuring processes can differ. You can use a load like the one in the video to carry out discharge/capacity tests, then with some simple voltage and time measurements calculate the mAh/Ah capacity of cells. I will point you to a website that explains it better than I can here, and it also has a few different examples and links that will help you.. www.quora.com/How-can-we-measure-a-batterys-real-capacity-in-Mah-or-ah-accurately

I asked banggod about the little button function and they said:We are sorry that we don't have more details of that. Under the circumstance, we would like to suggest you searching the operation videos on the Internet, such as Google, RU-vid, NetFlix. You could find more information related to the product. Sincerely hope to get your understanding. If you have any other questions, please contact us without hesitation. We will try our best to help you.@@OrbiterElectronics

@@elchino835 I later found out via a helpful viewer comment that this is a reset button. If the unit locks up or fails to respond. You can disconnect power from the unit.. Hold the button in, then apply power which will reset it.
