Thank u for the video.....i barely avoided an accident yesterday...was driving my father-in-law's 2005 dodge ram 5.7 hemi for moving some furniture and that throttle issue kicked in while on a country road....as i get to the intersection, i slow down and the rpm go to 0 and then my steering wheel locked (power steering must have shut) and so now I'm limping through the intersection and make if across the road by forcing the steering wheel as much as possible to avoid a ditch.... fortunately nothing else happened but definitely worry driving this truck around further. I did the manual reset of the throttle sensor with the acceleration pedal and the truck started up with no sensor issue.
Thanks a ton. My 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 is giving me the same issue. I will also come to a stop light and it almost shuts off on me with the RPM's trying to drop under .5. I watched another one of your videos and I think I am going to first clean my throttle body and if that does not help the situation out I will just buy a new throttle body from the auto parts store and see how that goes.
I had this red thunder bolt problem on my 03 dodge ram 1500 5.7l hemi 4x4...changed sensors, changed throttle body...bought the 379.00 apps sensor and still did this...finally did research and replaced my exhaust system from the catalytic converter all the way back...No More thunder bolt. Problem solved
Hey thanks man mine is doing the exact same thing you explained it to were. I knew what the hell you was talking about not bunch of words .. thanks dude ...
I've had the same problem, first time was stuck in limp mode and needed a new wire harness. Second time I had to replace throttle body now every morning (Wisconsin winter weather) when I start it to let it warm up, almost exactly 3 minutes after running the light comes back on and isles like crap, very little throttle response. Shut it off, start back up and runs totally fine with no issues until it's shut off and completely cools off overnight. Then back to the same issue the next morning like clockwork
Dude thank you, my truck would just die then I discovered the red lighting bolt and am getting a new throttle body tomorrow. I'm sure this will fix it.
Mine is only slow when I take off... it lags a bit then engages... I don't get the lighting bolt, I changed my map sensor, breaks, rotors, calipers, coils, wires and spark plugs... still lags a little bit when I'm taking off on first
I had the same issue on an 03 2500. Put a brand new one in ($350). Did the same as you; searched for its right idle for a minute or two, then it was fine. 2 or 3 days later I get the lightning bolt flash when the truck warms up. If it warms up while I drive, or just while parked, the light comes on no matter what. I’ve tried every manual relearn procedure I can find and it’s still doing the same thing. Bought a code reader a few days ago to do other stuff and I don’t think I can use it to do the relearn process. I put the new throttle body in a month ago, and I’ve been having issues almost every day with it (the first day it ran smooth, got great mileage also). Now it flashes every time I start it (after maybe 2 minutes) but if I kill the truck and restart it goes away. But today I had to do that probably 3 times on the warm up because it was a bit cold out. But winters here get much much colder. I have to fix this issue! I know you know your way around these trucks; if you can suggest anything, thanks in advance. I bought this vehicle in the summer and I’ve had a lot of problems with it; it would be nice to be able to solve just one of them 🤞
Did you get a warranty with the nee throttle body. When it happend to me I put the new throttle body on right in the parking lot at the auto parts. Fire it rite up. Have not had any issues sense that day. If you did get a warranty I would definitely go swap it out with another one
@@autoguydiy4244 I did not do this. I will try to touch the cables together, and look into sending the unit back if I have to (ordered it). Thanks for answering and I’ll let you know what it was if I ever sort the issue out. Appreciate your help.
Your welcome sir. Also you could try to disconnect the battery over night with the headlights on. So the whole electric system is drained reconnect in the morning to headlights off start truck and let her rip
Yo I think this was my issue I have it in a shop now I replaced the throttle body and crank shaft position sensor and spark plugs because I got all those codes and nothing I think my issue was the cable it self I did not know it had that thank you man honestly I'm not sure since it's in a shop but I've done every other possible thing and nothing mine would not even run it took no throttle and idled up and down and would never level out it went into limp mode or something
@@RIPFIGGAS yeah it was a wiring issue with the throttle body for me and pedal response i got it rewired and my response fixed and it runs perfect now not sure if its the same for everyone but you could always check
today a 04 dodge with hemi came.. lost power on freeway.. and throttle body code.. we replace with a new one and same problem... no fix.. we check the 5v on conector pf the throttle body and it was 4.8 volt.. so we decide to. chance the ecm from another truck that we have in the shop and.. problem fix.. we got 5 volts on conector and now work perfect..now we are waiting on a replecment ecm to finish the job
my 04 ram 1500 5.7 was having no throttle response and not shifting past 3rd gear usually when i would accelerate hard but if i drive it normal it would be fine. took it to the shop this week and they found a code with the throttle position sensor under the battery and the pcv valve was malfunctioning, they also want to replace the whole throttle body. its been there all week because apparently the throttle position sensor has been discontinued and not sold by dodge anymore. i think i finally found an aftermarket one from oreilys (th456) which i hope will do the trick but its not cheap. i will comment an update if this was the correct part🤞🏼
seems like the throttle position sensor from oreilys was the correct one so they replaced that, the throttle body, and pcv valve but now it idles sometimes at 650rpm or really low at like 500 or 450rpm. also when i put it in reverse sometimes it goes as low as 250rpm almost shutting off until it revs itself up to normal idle. also i was just pulling into the driveway earlier and gave it a little gas and it revved itself up unexpectedly lunging itself forward for a second before i stepped on the brake. kind of annoying. i already tried the different methods of pressing the gas pedal down while the ignition is on and disconnecting the battery for several minutes. but it still has weird rpm behavior
So I swapped my throttle body and sensor in the intake and I’m still having the light and the light comes back when I idle and the truck will just shut off. Any ideas?
I wonder if the throttle body is bad if it’ll keep the truck from staring all together in some cases? My truck will run if I spray starting fluid in the vacuum hose going to the brake booster. That it was a fuel pump problem at first until I tested the fuel pressure and had 55psi on the fuel rail
@@autoguydiy4244 shoot it won’t even start. It hasn’t in a couple months. Lol . That thing is getting everything it needs to run plus I also replaced the timing chain and gears because it had a code saying the cam and crank sensors was out of sync. Then it had 4 codes about the tps sensor. It’s one thing after another. I think it boils down to the pcm being bad
I've got the same problem on my 03' 5.7 ram. I took it to my mechanic and he replaced the throttle body 3 times and no luck. I'm preparing to buy a TPS but they're rather expensive, and I don't wanna just throw parts at the problem. Any ideas???
@@autoguydiy4244 I went to the junk yard today and got a TPS, unfortunately it made no difference. Not quite sure where to go from here. Dunno if this matters, but the ETC light doesn't come on under heavy acceleration. It only comes on under low acceleration/ rpm, but that's not at all practical for around town driving.
i have a 03 ram 1500 5.7 . lighting bulb comes on and truck is rewing up and down to 3,000 rpms . i replaced the throttle body and let the battery disconnect over night ... still isnt idling right ... any tips ??
150k miles . i put s brand new throttle body and mainfold was just replaced .. mechanic promise me its sealed correctly but the lighting bolt is on and isnt idling right
Hey bro I have a 2003 ram 1500 5.7 hemi I had a catalytic converter put out a while back and it gave me a 420 code right after that the truck started having issues I got a 2106 code for a bad ECM I have now put on my second DCM reprogram plug & Play-4 plug-in Motorola ecl I keep getting the lightning bolt I put on used carburetor possibly could be bad also one's worse than the do you believe I may not have an ECM problem and it was just my throttle body but how would I get a 2106 code I guess but the problem came with putting the cat on in the wrong one to begin with
I got one off and go three last week and it's still doing the same thing I think it's my throttle body for sure I just got a second eats and put it in doesn't seem to run bad at all until it kicks a code now I only got to 171 Bank Lane
The sensor is the apps. Accelerator Pedal Positioning Sensors. I'm having trouble finding the part #. I will get under the hood of the truck and see if I can come up with something for you.
Gathering info. Look for a video to come out In The next couple of weeks sir. I think I found what ur looking for try to get my hands on it to see if it is identical to the one on my truck
Maybe you should remove your positive and negative cable from battery. Then tie your positive and negative cables together for 10 to 15 mins not touching the battery at all. It's called a hard reset. I would try that before spending any more cash
I seem to have all the same issues. But my brakes were extremely hard to use, almost no brake power. Would that lean you towards a vacuum leak. Had a loud backfire and a bit of smoke from under hood. Then TBS came on and issue started.
