Kevin, this the the most excited you’ve been in 5 years. Those are some nifty gadgets and very reasonable for any budget. Since you travel light this is the perfect item!
I think having the female connectors on the end makes sense from a reliability/maintainability standpoint. The female connector won't break as easily. Use the male pin to male pin jumper where it is more likely to break. One thing in regards to the rounded waveforms at higher frequencies, perhaps those unshielded wires are contributing to the rounded waveforms due to their capacitance?
👍'ickle test equipment looks nice. Good for hobbyists on a budget. Perhaps useful to have in a toolkit. Even if you have a "proper" function generator as an RF source, you could use the ZOOLARK as an AF source (testing a mixer for example). So, could be very useful when you need an extra function generator or scope? Of course, for hams, having something this size that goes up to, say, 100MHz would be very nice.
I bought the Analog Discovery 2 from Digilent years ago when they had a "Ham Bundle". It's been a great tool for casual experimentation. This seems similar, with the addition of the tiny screen. If you don't have a scope or a function generator then I highly recommend starting with a device of this type. You'll be able to learn how these instruments work and they perform well enough for most of what you'll do as a hobbyist on HF. You'll never completely outgrow them. By the time you need a better X, Y or Z - you'll need 2 of X, Y or Z!
Good to see this and as you say "it has it's uses". I'm guessing the power unit is sized for metric breadboards and your old faithful might be imperial?
The small size so it will fit in a pocket would be great for on-the-go electronics experimentation, such as during a long plane or car ride, or while bicycling. Get my point? 🙂
Kevin, Great overview on a couple of cool little devices. I also can envision several uses for them .Any ballpark indication as to what the final price range will be on these and the release date? 73 Paul M. WA3X
fully half of my audience or more use the metric system. so I decided to use metric this time. Anybody can use a calculator to figure one from the other.
In your first truSDX video you mention the price at 1 minute, 18 seconds in. Just sayin'. Two things hams want to know as soon as possible in a RU-vid gadget video: what does it do and how much does it cost. Unless it's about an Elecraft product, then price doesn't matter apparently. 🙂
