Such an exciting era! I remember it well. Eagerly combing the pages of magazine for snippets of news and screenshots of new games. Kids today won’t ever understand those times. Glad I grew up in those golden years of gaming.
That early beta build of Twisted Metal 2 at 1:46:57 is so intresting! The text "Run Away!!!" when Grasshopper's health was red and then "Man You're Pathetic!" when DeadHead (Hammerhead's early name) destroyed her. And Shadow's beta name "Undertaker". This game was my childhood and I hope so badly this build gets found again and released one day! Would absolutely love to play it
@@hellwashere3821 Marketing for sure was a HUGE thing in this era. Playstation became "cool" and once that happened it was difficult for the other two to compete. Strangely especially Sega because that was their market in the previous generation
@@hellwashere3821 and the pricing was deceptive since it didn't come with the game or a second controller or memory like the Saturn. It was all smoke and mirrors. After you added those things that actually was more expensive than the Saturn. 🤦🏻♂️
@@Gorilla_JonesWell PlayStation had 3 things going for it in Europe/UK, 1. It was marketed to young adults as opposed to kids, installed in Night Clubs etc, had a lot of futuristic looking games or games with techno soundtracks. 2. Game prices were £10-£20 less than N64 games. 3. FMV, (especially as unlocks) Finish Tony Hawks with a specific skater and get a FULL VIDEO of that person skateboarding. Even had video playing on billboards in the second level (and others). People were already starting to get turned off of Sega, because the last two things were OK, but not great AND you had to already own a Mega Drive to use them. 32X and Mega CD, 32X, hardly anyone had/was slated everywhere, Mega CD didn't have much games that weren't either on the Mega Drive already, but with added soundtracks/videoclips , and of the Mega CD FMV games, MOST were the same everytime you played them, not much difference for replayability. Plus Sony were NEW and EXCITING to the console market.
Wasn't RE out this year or was it the previous I can't remember I just remember being really excited for the launch and my mother telling me there is no way in hell I'd be getting it 😂 long story short.... She was wrong haha
33:30 Does anyone have the full version of this game cut music? Maybe in mp3 format. Or at least what the song is called. She is very cool, I have been looking for her for a hundred years - since 1996, when I was 15 years old. Thanks ;)
There are some games in this video that I never heard from before. Definitelly going to pick up some of them. Like that 2d sidescroller before the Tomb Raider demo.
Crazy to think the Switch that sits on the desk in front of me is many times more powerful than the console or even arcade platforms being shown at this show - and it's far from the most powerful mobile chipset. Granted, this was 26 years ago, but I'm old enough to appreciate the advances.
