It was fantastic to finally meet you in person at #SMRRF and to get to see these too! You gave me a Benchy pin, it was so beautifully made and I wore it with pride, but I was sad to find I had lost it by the end of day 2 - I just had the pin! However you have absolutely inspired me to do this myself by showing this super clean process - I want to make my own Star Trek commbadge among other things - even non 3D printed items!
Great timing on this video! I recently started a project to electroplate some chess pieces. They're all coated with graphite paint and ready to plate, though I am a bit worried the finer details (such as the mane on the knight) might get lost in the process.
I really enjoy your series and rebuilding my cellar just to create a nice lineup for 3d printing. Keep going man your videos are great. looking forward to the next ones.
How noticeable is the little bit of unplated copper wire on the corner of the stern? Did you (or would you recommend us to) go over that spot with the electrolytic pen using nickel and then gold? Or does it secretly look really good?
To achieve the chrome effect, what electrolyte do you recommend? I have managed to collect it, but I don't know how to do it to give a chrome finish. Icono de Validado por la comunidad
Hello, my name Hugo, I'm from Brazil. I have knowledge in electroplating and 3D printing, but I don't know this metallization process. I have 2 questions. Do you use any special resins in 3D printing? Where can I buy this metalizing paint?
Moin Moin :) Schonmal vorweg, sehr geile videos. Weiter so! Nun eine kleine Frage: Welche art Draht nutzt du zum Galvanisieren? Ich habe einen relativ dünnen Draht genommen und der ist mir durchgerostet und abgefallen im Prozess. Vielen Dank schonmal im voraus :_)
Hello, first of all I would like to congratulate you for your work and the wonders you do, I was watching all your videos and I see that you have very large tanks, and I wonder if smaller tanks for the bathroom (just the size of the piece) would work, And if not, why? Thank you very much in advance
Hi, another great video and I very much like your idea as a business card prop. Unfortunately we can't get copper paint here, so I decided to make my own. By reducing CuSO4 using Ascorbic acid (VitaminC). Wash, filter and dry. I tried it in water based polyurethane and solvent based nail polish lacquer. Both are good but dispersion and suspension are way better with the nail polish. Results are < 1ohm/cm unpolished thin coat.
How much does the electroplating effect the weight of the prints? I'm assuming they're still noticeably lighter than a solid-metal counterpart, but do they still get any noticeable increase in weight from just the plating?
Hi Hendrik, is it possible to electroplate ABS or ASA parts after they are smoothed with acetone vapour or is it better to sand it like other materials?
Hello! I have a question. How do you avoid the wire contact marks around de electroplated pieces? Do you constantly change, during the electroplating process, the wire position that envolves the piece? I am trying electroplating at home and I can't deal with that issue. Congrats for you work!!
@@hen3drik thanks for your answer! The idea of changing position is to promote more metal deposit where the marks are formed. Then I could have enough thickness to sand and remove that marks. But I will try put the wires with less contact.
Do you just fill the residue water into old PET bottles and take them to the recycling center? I have the impression like you would collect a whole bunch of contaminated water doing just a few prints and I'm curious about the logistics.
I was wondering if you could go into detail on your sanding & polishing methods? A video outlining your methods to prepare for electroplating would be invaluable. Your models turn out perfectly and I would love to see your techniques!
Great idea. Thanks for all your help getting into electroforming. I have been successful in copper plating a crow skull and can't wait to do more. Still working on my rotary jig.
Really wish there was an affordable option for conductive paint here in the USA. That Tifoo brand unfortunately is EU only. The products I have found here is 2 or 3 times as expensive for tiny bottles of paint.
Love your stuff. Hoping to get into this kind of thing after Christmas. Those would be cool rewards for 1st / 2nd / 3rd place in some contest :P Especially if the Copper one was Bronzed instead (Nickel is close enough to silver :P)
Awesome work as always ! You helped me greatly with the plating in the past and I can't thank you enough for that !!! My next project is to electroplate a gunpla, I think that could give a cool result. Small pieces though, gotta be precise doing it
@her3drik Do you have any links to the electrolyte solutions? I can never find a solution that is as bright as yours without sanding the b'jesus out of them.
@@hen3drikI'm having a hard time with my paints I have tried copper paint as well as Graphite paint. It just doesn't seem to work out for me. Any advice?
@@robinyilmaz1155 Resin printing can be quiet a bitch. Since every benchy would be oriented differently, every single one would be a point of potential failure. Printing them oriented in a single tested position therefore is the right way to go.
How would you know how much current to use if you were working with plastic pieces that are of different sizes? I'd like to try your method with plastic scale models
