Based on the other reviews I've seen, I agree that your unit was probably defective. I'm glad Elegoo is eager to replace it. One thing I wanted to remark on is that I would avoid inverting the build plate to keep any resin drippings from contacting the upper part of the the mechanism. Thanks for the review!

If I didn't have such a positive experience with the Mars 5 big brother the Saturn 4 Ultra. Plus resin machines are Elegoo's bread and butter. If I didn't take that into account, I might have had a different opinion. Thanks for your suggestion about inverting the build plate. I am still very new to resin printing.

My understanding is that the springs in the buildplate are part of the self-leveling feature. The Saturn 4 Ultra has them, as you noted, and the Saturn 4 Ultra’s build plate did move and compress the springs when you squeezed the build plate. I would assume the Mars 5 Ultra buildplate should of had the springs, and those springs should have compressed, like the Saturn 4 Ultra compressed, when you attempted to compress or squeeze the Mars 5 Ultra’s buildplate. Since the Mars 5 Ultra buildplate did not compress on squeezing, I wonder if those springs were missing, and that was causing failures on first- layer adhesion, and thus all your problems. Just a thought.

I just bought this machine myself, and am having an issue I've not heard anyone talking about; the so-called "easy pour" resin tank has been causing far larger messes then it's predecessor (I had a Mars 3 and never had as much of a mess made whilst trying to pour out resin) - what gives? Did you have any issues with the resin tank when pouring / switching resins?

I may have missed where you mentioned it, but were you adjusting exposure times for your different resins? Elegoo has a built in exposure tuning program so that you can print your calibration print up to 8 times with different exposure times for each one. Also, did your shop area (and thus your resin) remain between 25C-30C (77-85F)? Some resins will have print issues in the 20-23C range, and nearly all of them will fail under 20C. So if you're printing in a garage overnight with no heat and the temp drops below 20C, that will basically guarantee guarantee a failed print every time.

John, good review! I'm amazed how much resin printer prices have dropped and the quality seems to have gone up. I sill don't have a need for them, and am very concerned about using resin, but do appreciate the information.

Many thanks! Yes, you get a lot for your money now! I am still not a fan of the resin workflow, and the smell. However, you cannot beat the quality of the prints!
