That rook looks awesome! I've been thinking about getting a 3D printer,just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Those would be awesome with a custom chess board! Keep up the great work! Also, how long did that print take?

I think you'll be happy with one, they really have so many possibilities! I think that print took about 3 hours, but that was just using the standard settings. I think you can speed that up a bit. One really cool thing about resin printers is you can print more items, and it takes the same amount of time since it can cure the whole layer at once

Very impressed with the resolution. I’ve been using FDM printers for about 8 years. They are really good for prototyping, jigs, assembly fixtures, models, and the like, but even at the highest precision settings, they are definitely limited. Also, I have had no success in getting water tight prints that would hold liquids. That might be a layer issue and settings, but I haven’t found the magic formula yet. Tried making a casting mold and that was a miserable failure. The resin printer looks like it solves those issues and am looking forward to seeing how it works for you. My problem will be finding a place for one; just what I need, finding a location for another tool.

LOL I know, I'm having trouble figuring out where to actually put mine too. This thing really does an amazing job with the print quality. I'm pretty sure you can print water tight things, in fact I hear you actually have to add holes into the model if you hollow it out or the resin gets trapped inside. The good news is there are a lot of really cheap options out there depending on the build volume you need. So far, I'm super impressed with this thing though. More videos coming soon!

Great video, I have thought of trying the resin for these as a 1 coat finish for pens. Tried the uv from alumilite and not really happy. Any thoughts?

Thanks Bill! I don't know if these resins are really formulated to be used as a top coat like that. It may work but I think there are other options out there that are formulated to be a top coat layer on something like that. Maybe give Solarez products a try

They haven't been around for too long Dave, still kind of the beginning of the industry. The technology has gotten cheap enough for widespread use. Pretty fun stuff! I'm not sure about the video quality, only thing different is it's the newest iphone, but I have felt like it's a little better quality in all lighting conditions than my previous phone was

Great video Z. Appreciate the info. At some point can you please cover the cost to use? It appeared that just making those chess pieces took an awful lot of resin... Given the cost of resin, it could definitely be a deciding factor for me. Thanks! V

the failures in the first print was most likely due to you pausing the print, while it is possible to do generally there tends to be problems when you do as you found out. Also while you can use mica powder i wouldn't recommend it, the results arn't the best and you tend to get the mica settling in the bottom of the resin vat and getting under the FEP sheet.

After watching the video back, the tank looked bone dry. I don't think pausing it was the problem in this case. We'll have to see how it goes with the different colorants. I'm not particularly worried about things going wrong, but I am interested to see for myself

Hi zac,I was wondering if that resin smells. Someone else I follow has said that he started it before he went to work,and when he arrived back home after work his house smelled.

It definitely has an odor to it, I discussed that at the end of the video
