Thanks! Most of the distortion actually comes from the rytm itself, I use a lot of overdrive in the individual voices, in combination with bit reduction in the sampler. On top of that I use the mixer as a distortion unit. The old first generation Mackie mixers have a very pleasant overdrive behavior once you start overloading the individual channels, for example by turning up the input trim gain. It's worth it to experiment with mixers for distortion, though many tend to do very harsh unpleasant clipping.

@@HerrShield Yes, Im very interested in using old analog mixers to create overdrive distortion. I have an old mixer that is apparently good for these sounds. The artist Nikki Nair uses it in a lot of his tracks. It's not a Mackie, but an old sony broadcast mixer. I'm wanting to experiment with it using my Syntakt. So all you do is turn up the gain? I have a hard time overdriving my gear without clipping in my audio interface. I heard people doing the distortion by running an aux out into a new channel? Have you heard of that Theres not a ton of info out there on this technique.

@@atetraxx i compensate the input gain by lowering the channel fader and also the master output. You can find a few videos on youtube on mackies being used for distortion, additionally its worth digging in the gearspace forum, the discussions pop up from time to time.

Thanks! I was using the master out of the Rytm to record this. The mixer was sent back into the inputs of the rytm to be mixed with the effects.
