YES. I think this video was helpful because I was intuitively looking at something inbetween the two poles of complete improvisation and song structure. Seeing these two very perspectives was very helpful to figure out where I fit in the middle.

I am still upset with Elektron bc despite what the manual says (or used to say...not sure, they said they were going to change the manual after I pointed this out) that the arp is supposed to stay in the scale that is set when you offset individual notes in the arp screen, like it does on the OT AND the A4.. instead offset is chromatic, which means it is very difficult to change the arp using the offset on the fly, and stay in scale ..So clearly it can be implemented, and they meant to implement it, even put it in the manual...but they just did not do it. What you read below does not work and it sucks, because being able to change the offsets in the arp and stay in scale would be super useful! And it CANNOT be that hard to implement. Pretty ridiculous of Elektron to implement it on their expensive products, put it in their digi manual, and then say that actually this has never worked and is an error in the manual...they said they would pass along the "feature request" to the devs...this ain't no request! This is something that was supposed to be implemented and in the manual. I have read 3 year old posts saying the same thing as I experienced when contacting elektron...so many updates and they can;t fix this one thing that works on 2 of their other machines? "9.7.6 OFFSET Offset selects the offset (note) value of the chosen arpeggiator step in semi-tones. The offset is from the original note trig. The TRK KEY SCALE and TRK KEY NOTE settings found in the NOTES SETUP menu affects the note values of the arpeggiated notes. 1. Press [LEFT] or [RIGHT] to select which arpeggiator step to offset. 2. Use DATA ENTRY knob E to set the offset. 3. Press [DOWN] to deacivate an arpeggiator step. Press [UP] to activate an arpeggiator step that has been deactivated"

@@5lanediver Not sure what you mean? I use this all the time as a mini-sequencer within the sequencer. I agree it would be nice to have a arp that conforms to a scale, but as described in the manual, it works as intended? Again, I agree it would be nice if this was the case…I just never expected it based on how I interpreted the manual.

Another good option if you gel with the sound and workflow. I still prefer the variety of sound and fast workflow of the Syntakt, but Blofeld is a solid synth for the price for sure

Yes that’s correct!

This video has been a real gamechanger for my approach. When you showed this workflow of sound design and interchanging by improvisation between tone kits/palettes... that was just what I was searching for! For me, I think the Oxi and Polyend Play are ideal for this kind of approach. I think the Octatrack could too in theory but I think having the visual layout of multiple tracks like the Play and Oxi is a big deal for me. Just sequence from a main source with generative algorithms and probabilities and then all the other gear can be treated like tone boxes/kits to mess around with. I think sequencing notes through multiple Elektron boxes simultaneously with program changes made me rigidly feel like everything had to be pre-programmed and arranged when I just wanted to create on the fly with my pre-programmed sound designs. I would love to have Matthew out here soon!! I feel that adding the OXI One brings features the Elektrons aren't capable of doing (Euclidean sequencing and quantization to key with random generation of notes and triggers). The Elektrons are still number one for sequencing internally with the ability to parameter lock all the parameters of the synths, samplers, and FX. They make an unbelievable team!

That is probably the Analog 4. Only 4 voices, but you can do all kinds of stuff.

The Digitone is super cool. I'm still learning it but it's coming along. I'm getting musical results at each level of my learning. Also working on the Octatrack. Steeper learning curve there. Moments of great joy and discovery punctuated by brutal bouts of manual reading and scouring RU-vid for tips. Back to the Digitone: It seems like you as you become more proficient, the cool sounds and music that you make rise along with your skills. But the musicality is there from right from the start. It's immediately listenable and becomes more so as you progress. Cheers! And enjoy the ride...

@@EZBOT_ it’s good. I permanently have two patch cables connecting CV A/B to the two control inputs. Then in my default project I have: a snappy envelope on the CV track’s ENVF and a longer one on ENV2 then set their destinations to CV A/B with full depth, a few trigs on e.g. 1,5,9,13, then modulate/duck stuff in Kit-> control in 1/2 mod!

I have the same setup but no syntakt but virus ti. This is very interesting for me but I don’t understand how surco (much love to him) safe kits and change patterns. I came to say the same. And as you know, techno, if one wants to throw that word down can mean both 4 to the floor - banging German or Detroit or edm cheese and drops - or really, anything electronic. But usually it limits a thing to define it. I feel like the only real name is electronic music. It's broad and open and inclusive of all bpms and nuances. 🔴🔴🔴

Techno is much wider than any one person’s frame of it, even if it is Jeff Mills saying it. I consider Stockhausen techno as much as anyone. I don’t think it’s fair to decry someone else’s framing of techno from how they choose to perform it. ‘No rules’ to them might be a technique or a timbre as much as a time signature or piece of equipment. 🤷🏾‍♂️
