What is really impressive is that this is Samsonov's 4th consecutive victory over Rybakina (Samsonova never lost against Rybakina). The last time Samsonova won in Montreal, some people thought it was because Rybakin was tired after playing late previous game (or injured, she had taped shoulder). Today, however, Samsonova proved that previous wins were not accidental.

Swiatek 8-1 head-to-head against Gauff, and Samsonova now 4-0 head-to-head against Rybakina. Sometimes the head-to-head just stays true with what is going to happen.

Samsonova‘s allround Game is so nice to watch. Don’t understand, why she wasn’t able to win at least a slam so far. She literally outplayed Rybakina in decisive moments.

Despite the loss, i still think that it was the best tournament for Elena since Rome! Just she was unlucky to face Samsonova in the semifinal, who is like her cryptonite, same as Ostapenko is to Iga (their H2H is already 4:0). The loss is loss, it happens. I am optimistic about Rybakina for the next tournaments. By other side Samsonova makes a very good season. That's her second WTA1000 final. Despite she is a bit inconsistent, i think that she is more top 10 worthy player than Garcia, for example. Congrats to her and i hope to make a good match against Iga, same like the Stuttgart semifinal in the last year was!

Luminda has variety and that disrupts Rybakina, those drop shots exposed Elena's poor movement. Think people vastly overhype Rybakina, Sabalenka handed away that match. Rybakina seems clueless when she can't overpower opponent. Also during the week Andreeva was well on her way to beating Elena but emotional immaturity showed. There is so much Elena needs to improve on if she is going to win more slams or be number one.

Hahaha. Women's tennis. Ostapenko's got Iga's number. Samsonova's got Rybakina's number. Iga's got Gauff's number (well, 8 times out of 9!). and so it goes.

Yesterday people were already giving Rybakina the title saying she would beat Iga. Have to make the final first. The current players are all too inconsistent to become an all time great.

Rybakina can deal with strong groundstrokes, but those dropshots and varieties were hard on her

Rybakina continues to disappoint in crucial matches. She got beaten in her own game. Good run for samsonova as an unseeded player. Still, i dont think she has what it takes to beat Swiatek.

I think Samsonova is very comfortable playing against Rybakina because she knows her game very well. They are just about the same age so she must have trained with Rybakina for a long time plus the fact that they are doubles partners before. On the other hand, Rybakina just seems to lose her killer mentality when playing with Samsonova and she seems to treat the match as just like a practice session. This was also Samsonova's best serving ever. Her second serves hit the lines so many times when she was in trouble. But I have no doubt that Rybakina can reverse this matchup in the future. This was a very close match until Rybakina served 3 double faults in the eight game of the second set. Elena's loss in this one was more self-inflicted than anything else.

Between Rybakina and Samsonova, the former would have been the bigger problem for Iga. Having said that, Samsonova's plays in this tournament have been FABULOUS. OMG

Can't wrap my head around what's wrong with rybakina. Today she was back again to her lethargic and passive style on the court after playing with so much power and energy yesterday. Samsonova would have won so much quicker if she didn't made so many unforced errors because rybakina where nowhere to be seen in this game. Terrible body language and her useless coach does nothing to encourage her or help her get in the match. Her best tournament since Rome but she has so much to work on if she's going to take that last step. Fair play to samsonova, much better today.

Hope she can overcome swiatek for the title!

In the other semi-final I spoke about "speed" - especially "inside the head". Sorry to say it, but Elena was to slow inside her head (normally this is an advantage she has against her opponent). She needs to react faster and/or bring her opponent in the position to be the person who needs to react. She was not able to do this - that's why she lost. Elena still needs to work in the mental area (and addtionally NOT to think about to many things outside the court). She also need to improve her court-movement. She is of-course a good if not fantastic player but there is so much room for improvement. Anyhow - congrats to Liudmila to be the better one today.

It was so nice to watch a match between two players who don't obnoxiously scream their head off when hitting the ball :) Samsonova is unfortunately just a bad match-up for Rybakina as Samsonova covers the court well and plays with great variety (exquisite drop shots) which puts Rybakina out of her comfort zone. Rybakina matches up well against fellow big hitters who are quite one-dimensional and don't cover the court anywhere near as well as Samsonova. Whilst i wished Rybakina had won today, a positive to take away from this week in Beijing is that it is the best tournament she has played since Rome, hopefully she finishes this year strong going into 2024. Congrats to Samsonova, hope she beats Swiatek in the final.

Samsonova has really made a large difference along this season, outclassing the potent rivals is one of the most considerable steps within this stage. It explicitly proves her stability and quality in terms of the development and expansion. She can become a vast menace to the seeded competitors with her this upturn.

Samsonova's drop shots are deadly.

As much I love Elena, as was evident in this game, she clearly lacks variety and mobility. Serving hard and hitting hard from baseline is all that she seems to do and though it's brought her a lot of success, she needs to add more weapons to her arsenal to make that next step.

Samsonova has unbelievable potential I think. There's not many tall girls who are that naturally athletic. She reminds me a bit of Dementieva...very strong legs and athleticism. She should be in the top 5 for sure...just needs to package it all together.

rybakina almost seemed like the didn't care throughout the whole match, like she was showing minimal effort. i know she is very calm and cool while she plays in matches, but she's almost too nonchalant.

The thing about Samsonova is how inconsistent she could be sometimes. She can beat all these great players in one week only to be beaten by the likes of Noskova in the following week or fall to Iga 6-1, 6-1 She's a Top 10 material only in hard court so far, because the moment the court turned to grass or clay, she's beaten by the likes of Siniakova, Vekic or even Begu. If she wants steadier calendar, she needs to practice for clay and grass because there's no way any top players just willingly want to lose many precious points from March to July just because they can only play in hard court

For some reason, Liudmila just has Elena's number. The rest of the tour should watch their matches.

Congratulations to Samsonova who somehow always plays better against Rybakina than any one. However, she will lose the final badly against Swiatek who trashed her 6-1, 6-0 earlier this year on a hard court.

What the heck is wrong with Rybakina? 12 aces against Sabalenka in the quarterfinals, and now this poor performance?! 😢

Samsonova delivered excellently placed and paced ground strokes during the important points of the match. If you keep doing it, it will be very hard for my any other player to beat her.
