We stepped on shore of Eleuthera on September 11th 1973. We thought we would be there for two years to teach at Windermere High School and work with teens on the Island. Even though my wife and I didn't like the HOT weather, we fell in love with the most wonderful people on earth and ended up staying twenty-one years. Our three children call Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera "home". Our two older kids received their entire elementary and high school education in Tarpum Bay and Savannah Sound. Our third child went through 10th grade before we had to return to the States in 1994 to care for my ailing mother. We love returning "home" as often as possible. We taught hundreds of students and most if not all are doing extremely well in their chosen fields and keeping their Country on the map. "Lift up your heads" Bahamians and reach for the stars!
Heading out there January 2022. We have also visiting Long Island Bahamas and that is, so far, my favorite place in all the Bahamas and the Caribbean I have visited. Thanks for the great, informative video
Beautiful video! We stayed at the purple house, it was perfect! We are headed back to Spanish Wells in just a few weeks. We rented a boat last trip, but had some difficulty finding a place to Dock at Harbor Island. Would love to try again so we can explore.
The purple house is fantastic! My parents and I loved it. Happy to hear you're going back so soon. Enjoy your trip and good luck with your boat rentals. :)
Hi Britt! I'm from Dallas too. My Eleuthera travel guide should help you decide which route to take: www.lacedaily.com/beginners-guide-to-eleuthera-the-bahamas/
Fantastic video, you captured the beauty so well! We have been a couple times & have not seen the beach that you showed with a little sand bar out to a little island. What area is that in? Also, are you able to share the info to contact the person you went boating with from Spanish Wells? Ryan? Is there a business name to contact him? We are going back & plan to spend a couple nights on Spanish Wells. Thank you so much!
Hi Gina, I think you're talking about Twin Coves Beach near Governor's Harbour. Ryan can be reached on Facebook or via his website: www.spanishwellsfishing.com/ If you have more questions, you might find my guide helpful: www.lacedaily.com/beginners-guide-to-eleuthera-the-bahamas/
“…like a mesmerizing and prehistoric ruffle….” - oh my god, go back to j-school and take a course on travel writing for the post baby boomer crowd. Yuk.
