Elgato Thunderbolt 2 Dock - The ultimate thunderbolt accessory? : REVIEW 

Still too expensive for essentially a fucking dock. Should cost $50.

I have a late 2011 macbook pro. What are the drawbacks of getting thunderbolt 2 dock if my thunderbolt port is not a thunderbolt 2 port? Also, since i have usb 2.0 on my computer does that mean the usb3.0 ports on the dock are not going to get the full transfer speed that 3.0s have? Any clarifications would be much appreciated.

But what I want to know : can this device let me use a Thunderbolt Display, if the computer has a DVI or HDMI output ? If not, the TB display will do welll from a macbook (new TB2) but won't do for my "office machine" ( Dell: it DOES have HDMI AND firewire (1394) output ports, and SVGA of course. I know this video is a half year old, but still worth asking the question.
