The problem is people talk about Islam without knowing about it,she reads so much,how about she reads Quran and she'll know what Islam says... The Islamic cultures in the world, and Islam are two different things,so kindly comment on cultures because Islam has no discrimination and patriarchy...

This is the same thing as saying communism is ideal, it's just that nobody ever did it right. If the only populations that follow it are like that, then that is what it is. Oh my ideology isn't the problem, the people who follow it is... Like huh? The egg cannot come except from the chicken, sure, but the chicken cannot but come from an egg either.

I understand Mozambique is a fairly calm country with no history of violence between christian and muslims because its parte of our culture to accept this diferences we all have a muslim cousin etc. Ramadam its celebrated by everybody. Yet came some people claiming that they are from Isis and talking about claiming a certain part of the country that we has oil and now we are fighting people are dying and famílias are scattered. Its amazing what money and greed can do.

Sorry, but I've read Elif Shafak's work, and she has no idea what Islam is (or she does and is denying it). She isn't even a Muslim, but a "spiritual" agnostic (whatever that means). My guess is she wants Islam to reform to modern standards but she knows that criticising Islam directly will just anger Muslims and make them defensive and so she tries to pretend that the liberal, hippie version of Islam that she propagates in her novels such as 40 Rules of Love is a legitimate stream of Islam and she's trying to get Muslims to shift to it.

@Sel Y I needed to view the video again to understand what I was commenting on and as a Muslim Turkish girl you are naturally more qualified than me. On second viewing it left the same taste and it's nothing to do with the answer he gave which I, like yourself, agree with. It was more his presentation within a 'conversation'. He didn't appear to listen to Elif but be more waited to interject, he then, without looking at her, grandstanded the audience with his response.

Totally agree with Elif! ....Genuine question: what interest would these ‘monarchies’ have in supporting these extremist organisations? These extremists fight towards their destruction so that they can take over Mecca and Medina and control Muslims under their own extremist mandate! I agree that politics and money are the driving force behind these extremist organisations, however, the explanation must be justifiable and the ‘monarchies’ one is not. Please feel free to share your opinions!

I thought Elif's answer was nuanced. The moderator's, on the other hand, was basically apologistic. Sure, oil and money are responsible for America's (inexcusable) interference in the Middle East. On the other hand, no ideology or theology holds as much sway over its adherents as Islam does today. The Renaissance first and later the Scientific Revolution allowed Europe to move past "crusading" for their religion. Four hundred years later, most of the Western world is either atheist or agnostic. It's my feeling that the Islamic world (especially its Middle Eastern centre) needs the same kind of Renaissance to break the hold the Koran, the Hadith, ~1400 years of (textual) adherence has had on it. I wonder if it can happen though? What do you think?
@aquafrsh1
@aquafrsh1 4 года назад
@@thesoccergod Thank you for your response! In my opinion, the linear direction of the renaissance and scientific revolution paving the way for a more enlightened society doesn’t match that of Islamic history. The rise of science, art, engineering, etc in the Islamic world happened during the Islamic golden age. As a result, the Islamic ‘renaissance’ goes hand in hand with the religion. It is ironic that the process of enlightenment in Europe is opposite to that of the Islamic world. This highlights that ‘adherence’ to religious scripture is not what is standing in the way of enlightenment in the Islamic world. I truly believe that money and politics are the core reasons for extremism today. I am currently in the process of trying to figure out in what sense though. This is why I mentioned in the previous comment that explanations must be justifiable. So far, it seams that the rise of groups such as the Muslim brotherhood who use politics, money, and education are crucial in this justification. This is because they share their core concept of us (Muslims) vs them (anyone else) with all extremist groups. Nonetheless, I am still very much in the process of research. All in all, extremism stands in the way of any from of ‘Islamic Renaissance’. In fact, this is why the majority of Muslims do not consider their actions ‘Islamic’ at all.
@aquafrsh1
@aquafrsh1 4 года назад
mka for the purpose of clarification...the concept of us vs them, which the Muslim brotherhood and extremist groups share in common is: us (Muslims who support these groups) vs them (anyone else, including Muslims who don’t support these groups)

@thesoccergod would be very delighted to know whether you gave elif Shafak’s other works a read. She doesn’t present any bright side of Islam at all, while Islam is just like any other religion having good and bad people. Though her novel takes after rumi and other such sufi saints linked with Islam, she actually lacks an indepth knowledge of what suficism she preaches, the ubtle difference between mysticism vs sufism is lost and we're left with storylike exaggerated narrations. She doesn’t give core meaning to the "love" defined by Rumi. She criticizes islamic traditions and amalgams them with superstitions. She shows Turkish society more ruthless then any other traveller that might have travelled there. Dig deeper.

Does it matter even if you have more than you had yesterday? It's all desires driven. No intrinsic values to relationship with other, no meaning of of love, compassion and helping others. It's all become instrumental. In the end, we all have the same value as our excrement. Just rearrangement of matters with no objective meaning. That's why all religions put forward to ponder the meaning of life not just living the life. That's where the religion plays the most important role.
@One-rr8um
@One-rr8um 4 года назад
@Mahesh Krishnan I don't disagree brother. When I was agnostic, I can tell you that I didn't do any wrong to anyone intentionally. You can be way more better than any religious person. But in the end, the question remains. Why was I good? What's the point of modifying my actions to keep it with socially defined acceptable ranges? What's the point of loving your parents when you know pretty well they did bring you to the world out of instincts and pleasures and just wanting to feel like being parents? It's all become instrumental values deep down in the roots and you can't deny it. We all pretend to fit ourself within social norms. That's all I meant by Godless worldview. Religions doesn't teach fake creationism at all. All religions teach the first cause and progressive natural laws. That's a misconception in mainstream understanding. You can be way more better than any religious person and I hope you are.

This made realise that you know what the truth is, but apparently don't have the guts to face it. Critique and indecency are conspicuously distinct which we as "normal human beings" can instinctly distinguish. And in the case of this video, we both know that it surely wasn't a Critique, unless you're not a normal human being. May God bless you.
