Those Odyssey bb's are pretty hardy, had a couple of them on bikes over the years and both have run for years with minimal maintenance. When grease dries out in alloy threads, the best thing I have found to make them quiet, long term, is a layer of PTFE tape (plumbers tape) over the threads. That will quieten down that squeaky bb that keeps on grumbling.

When i still used the cheap mt200 brakes, the cheap semi metallic brake pads made wonders on my trail hardtail.
@Spindatt
@Spindatt Год назад
I was wondering that, these are organic.. which is supposed to help, but they are just not good
@thomasfjen
@thomasfjen Год назад
IIRC the mt200 are not supposed to be used with them because of the added heat, but on a dirt jumper it's probably fine. at least i had no problems with them even riding trails.
@simonwatkins9431
@simonwatkins9431 Год назад
I changed the resin only rotors on the hardtail I built and used semi metallic pads on my mt200 brakes, which made a big improvement. I'd still like to upgrade, but they are better. The other mod is to use a Deore or better servo wave lever with the MT200 Calliper haven't tried this.

@Spindatt
@Spindatt Год назад
That helps keep it quiet you find?
@The2808erik
@The2808erik Год назад
@@Spindatt The idea was to offset the manufacturers tolerances of the frame and BB. I put one layer around the threads of the bb then grease the threads of the frame and a bit on the teflon taped threads. I never had any bbs come loose or creak since then. Before I would just grease the BB and after a couple 1000 miles It would come loose no matter how tight it was. I use thin teflon tape 0,075 mm.

@wayneclement7201

Did you not bleed ter brake lever? Not to suck eggs, but after putting the pads and disc back in, i top off the funnel and bleed the last of the air off, so the pads are pretty much touching the disc instantly
@Spindatt
@Spindatt Год назад
I flicked the lever to get the trapped bubbles out, but not like you are describing, that's a good idea! Though, my rotors are kind of always so bent and wrecked that they would rub hahah

Having zero experience with dirt jumpers would a larger brake disc be better than the single 160 mm on the back
@rollinrat4850
@rollinrat4850 Год назад
No dirt jumping experience either. I'm just a shop mechanic. My assumption is that you hardly need any brakes on a bike used only for jumping. If more braking was necessary, you'd put a brake on the front. Bigger rear rotor by itself just makes it easier to skid everywhere.
@Spindatt
@Spindatt Год назад
Not super necessary really, a more powerful brake than this budget entry level one would provide as much braking power as needed, I'm just cheap and won't buy one until I get hurt with this one haha
