I don't speak Portuguese either but love Brazilian music and have found many translations over the years. @@nato2panama Elis was very proud of our music. I'm pretty sure that many of her biographers said that she even desdained the US. Even if it were true (it might be), "desperate" is definitely not like her

@@Teodoroviski You are absolutely right "desperate" was not the right word to use. It gives the wrong impression. If I remember correctly, what happened was that Ellis and her partner had been very hospitable to Wayne Shorter when he visited Brazil and she thought that he might help her to make some headway in the US. She was disappointed when he didn't reciprocate but as you correctly stated she was not desperate at all.

The lyrics don't is simple to understand if you translate into English. But if you know Tom Jobim, the wrote it, was with depression, so it get more easily to understand. The lyrics is so beautifull!

Thank you so much for sharing that story. You just rocked my world on so many levels. You have no idea! My dad was born in 1945 as well and Elis's daughter, Maria Rita, is my most favorite singer in the whole wide world and has been for over a decade. My dream is to see Maria perform live. I will watch the story of her mother as suggested.

I agree. I don't know who they are, either. I would have tried to find out when I first saw this but I know I never did. The drummer is the river - HA! He adds the sounds from his kit to the ensemble accents (I think these mark the form?) This is my favorite arrangement of Água de Março. The song move like a river, when it gets to what could have been a nice restful tonic chord buy the bass only gets as far as the fifth of the chord stepping on the nearest stone keeping his shoes dry ,and there's no resting there. This is a fabulous arrangement.
