In my entire life, I've never watched a music video that captures the inner, deep joy you can experience as a performer. This embodies the spiritual power of music in the player and transcended into the listener. Not to mention that these lyrics could easily be considered to be one of the most beautiful life stories ever told. I don't understand Brazilian Portuguese but this recording is so special. Elis Regina and Tom Jobim are no longer with us, but their recording of this song makes them immortal. By the way, I was living in Los Angeles at the time they were recording this album (Elis and Tom) but it took me many years before I discovered it.
One time when I was in Australia I swear to god I saw a man and a woman singing this whilst walking down the Sydney promenade. Just flawlessly reciting this as they wandered. Listening to this brings back so many memories :)

I like how the song slowly builds from a few elements: the first few chords on the bass and the guitar; then the piano, Elis, drums, Tom, the strings... into a crescendo that metaphorically represents rainfall itself, as it builds up from a few drops until it pours.

I think Ellis Regina is the most honest performer I've ever seen. When she moves it's pure music. She's not trying to look pretty or sexy it's just straight forward illustration of the rhythm. Of course she's very beautiful and sexy, so the result is such, but not because she's trying to be. It's hard to put into words.
