Jan Werner was only 17 here. Elisabeth and Jan Werner became very good friends and music partners after this. She was totally crushed when he died as the rest of Norway. At his funeral in the church they played a recording of Jan Werner singing the song "You Raise Me Up" and Elisabeth came forward and sang a duet with the recording of Jan Werner…and Rolf Løvland the composer of «You raise me up» played piano.

The song came in 6th place in Eurovision. I would love to see you react to the Norwegian entries to Eurovision that came in 10th place and better, in addition to all the songs by Jahn Teigen and Anita Skorgan. They are legends in Norwegian music life. They even got married and had a daughter, but got divorced after four years. Jahn unfortunately died four years ago. In addition, I would like you to react to all the Norwegian entries from the year 2005 (including the year 2020), in addition to the entry from the year 2000. The list can be found on Wikipedia by searching "Norway in the Eurovision song contest". I would also like you to react to Jahn Teigens "Optimist". The song was one of the entries in the Melodi Grand Prix (Norway's qualification for Eurovision) in 1989, but did not progress to the super final - to the audience's great surprise and frustration. "Optimist" is one of Teigen's most well-known songs, and according to Teigen himself, was the song that most people came up with when they had to name one Teigen song. Jahn Teigen was honored during the Eurovision final in Sweden this year, as one of those who undeservedly got zero points (came last?). It happened with the song "Mil etter Mil", and if you are going to react to it, you should react to both the finals of MGP and Eurovision because the song's composer decided to change the song from a ballad to a kind of classical operetta. Jahn did not like this, and showed it in the final. He sang great, but I think he created the icon Jahn Teigen during that finale. The song is one of the biggest sales successes of a Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix song of all time, which is due to the original ballad version.

Jan Werner had an amazing voice, and he was just getting started. He was gay and was bullied a lot in school, but found his love for music early on, which I guess served as a comfort in many ways. He was completely self taught, and just an overall incredible human being and an insanely talented singer. I don't think there was ever an official statement about how he died, but I may be wrong. You pronounced Jan correctly, but the first E in Werner is pronounced like the A in "bad". Great reaction! The lady is actually Swedish but has been living mostly in Norway. She won the international ESC final together with a Norwegian lady called Hanne Krogh in 1985. They had a group called "Bobbysocks" and won with the song "La Det Swinge" 🙂 La det swinge, la det rock'n roll. Love from Norway ♥♥♥

Thanks! What do you think of doing all Eurovision entries from Norway?

@@NordicReactions Nah, not really. There HAVE been a few very nice ones obviously, but I don't think the vids would attract too many viewers tbh. But who knows, right ? Just my 2 cents, since you asked 😉 Actually, Norway is the country that has got THE highest total score ever, with Alexander Rybak's "Fairytale". Almost straight twelves 🙂

Elisabeth Andreassen was born in Sweden to Norwegian parents and as a Norwegian citizen. Her family is from Sykkylven in Western Norway, and although she grew up in Sweden, she spent her holidays in Norway.

Jan Werner died in his sleep. The autopsy report said heart failure, probably as a result of an inflammation of the bronchi, combined with physical fatigue and exhaustion after a period of excessively hard work. 😢

Your pronunciation of Jan is good. The first part of Wer-ner is pronounced in almost the same way as the English name Ver-non, but the (first) e sound is pronounced as a in bad. You handle the rest of the name just fine. Andreassen (-son in Swedish) and Andersen/son are common names, so usually people are not related to each other even if they have the same name. This applies to most names that end in -sen and -son.
