I really appreciate your videos. You said it was longer than you meant, but they are always filled with lots of important info. I very much appreciated the tip on creating binds files. I didn't know that at all and it's a terrific things to know.

Which i have been playing a ton of. a friend turned me on to Elite, and as im new and watching newbie vids, i came acrossed yours, and its making the transition so smooth, cause its a familiar voice teaching me the new controls. i just thought that was hilarious. thanks for the video

When I just bought the game, I was like "WTF is going on?" I have played different sims before, but it is always a bit overwhelming at start. Your video was the first help video I watched and I still use almost these keybinds. You have really helped me to get started with some degree of control and ease! Thanks a lot.
Sounds good to me. Really just getting started again or, actually, just getting started because I was heavily into another game when I bought ED so didn't really get into it back then. When I tried ED the other day my joystick wouldn't work, hence looking for K/M set-up. The option to save/load a layout is great - that really should be standard in the game. A couple of my graphics programs can do it with their workspace layouts so why not ED?
Ok so I changed my keybinds, and was thinking so hard about what key now does what. That I did not spot I was now shooting the wrong ship. A few seconds later after he exploded I am wondering why I now have a big bounty on my head! Apart from that small problem it's still a great video, Thanks
Omg, probably the best beginners' tutorial and far most horrific dialect I've ever heard, at the same time. :-)) Don't take me wrong mate, but neither English nor her dialects are my maternal language. Simply, I have..... issues.... to understand you correctly. Not your fault tho', thanx for sharing the basics of one of the most difficult games ever. Even the predecessor, Elite ('84.), was extremely hard but this is real challenge! :)
Really useful information. I use a hotas joystick but will be switching to mouse and keyboard as they have much better fine control. Subscribed as it would be rude not to support a fellow Scot :)
You lose so much immersion with the mouse the game is much less enjoyable I find. Annoying to have to make those choices though. I actually thought about getting another stick for SC, noticed that Thrustmaster are releasing the T16000M with throttle soon. ;)
ok..I have watched exactly 13 seconds of your video and had to pause to say congratulations on being Scottish..right I had better watch the rest cos this game looks as complicated to learn as it was in 1984....
File saving and rename doesn't show up in game. The original file was Custom.3.0.binds and the renamed file Joykey.binds; but whatever I do only Custom.3.0.binds and the other regular generic files show up in game. Excellent tutorial has really helped, now it's more positive game-play, with a lot less swearing; however a in game training take off and landing /Docking training sequence without all that dashing around in Hyperspace would be nice
it should be absolutely mandatory this game type has demos so you can understand what your spending 60$ on, you could be wasting your money if you find out that the game isnt for you simply because of the controls when you first get in.
I have a problem with Select Highest Threat, I will be targeted on one ship, and being attacked by another, hit that key bind and it will select a hostile ship but not the one that is attacking me. Shouldn't the highest threat be one that is firing on you as apposed to the nearest hostile? In the case above, what's the easiest way to determine the ship that is firing on you?
According to the list of threat targets (you can mouse-over "Select Highest Threat" in options and it will give you the whole list) - 1) Missiles locked on to you. 2) Ships that have hit you in the last few seconds. 3) Ships that have fired at you in the last few seconds. 4) Hostile ships with weapons deployed. 5) Hostile ships. I suppose it's possible that another nearby ship hit you with some damage - maybe even more damage than the one currently firing on you or perhaps the current ship that is firing on you isn't hitting while another did recently? Otherwise I'm not sure. Try a bit more testing and see if it's working out as it should be according to the list.
Harold Sohrweide I don't think it's an option - I think it automatically selects the highest threat based on that list. So if you are being shot at by one ship then another fires a missile, pressing H will select the missile until the missile is gone. I think that's how it works, I'll start using it a bit more to see exactly though.
To play this game with a mouse is like driving a Ferrari with automatic transmission, you loose half the fun. Logitech 3d pro is around 40$ in Canada, not that bad.
jesus christ , my control menu is totally different, in other words a HUGE MESS. The interface is so different than urs and everything is just spread out I cant figure it out wath;s on or off. everything comes up as yes or no input. GOD. plus none of the control options have the description of what it does etc. Im at the stage of uninstalling the game just because of the stupid control interface. Your video would be good if the controls menu interface was the same as in the newest version ;/ That's how it looks on my side postimg.org/image/p4g5qtce5/ :(
I'm sorry..... this was a very frustrating video to watch. It could have been 5 minutes long with just the condensed information people want when they google search this. Informative though, just my personal preference
