I remember one time I was in a conflict zone and I heard the ship about to jump in then all of a sudden my ship is enveloped in an dark cloud and then I just get fucking yeeted across the conflict zone as my ship explodes all around me
"Ivan, we are about to enter a battle! Fetch me my red shirt so the enemy cannot see me bleed!" *Warning, Capital Class Signature Detected* "Ivan! Go fetch my brown pants!"
I have to admit that is very impressive. That slow, majestic-as-fuck arrival with the ominous "capital-class signature detected" really gives the "holy-crap-shit's-about-get-real" feel.
+Forced G+ Account The arrival was awesome...and then it was kind of nothing. Seemed very stationary and rather boring. There should be some reason these ships have arrived at this location and they should be trying to do something or at least get a better position on each other.
Check out star citizen.. Players are supposedly able to command massive ships like this. It will need a well organized guild or organization of sorts I believe to be effective though.
I believe you can build and command your own small private fleet of capital ships. Both in offline private servers and in the persistent universe. Offline private servers are completely open to modding, so anything is possible.
+Seabass G in SC? I'm not sure yet.. I'm hoping it'll be more like the organizations have a "project" of sorts where everyone can throw together uec and materials towards a capital ship, ( like the Pegasus class carrier, or the javelin class destroyer) of course they would take massive amounts of supplies, and it'd have to be at least 100 person organization to get it done in a feasible time. From there it'd be like a mobile guild hall. I'd like to see a fully player manned capital ship battle between organizations for maybe a new planet discovery or some event too.
Of course research would have to be done as well to basically create the blueprint. And I'd like to see the engineers having to actually put parts of it together, reason I say this is it'd have to be a multi class organization since there would be so many roles on the actually ship once it's completed
I swear.. those two battlecrusiers were like; "Hey Kracer!!" "How's it going Anders" "Oh pretty good, just zapping away at these tiny ships floating around" "Same here, this anaconda thinks he's all that *BOOM*" "Likewise, this Asp thought he was king in space, thinks he's badass with those railguns *poof*" "Say, wanna compare weapons?" "Sure, why not."
Dindunuthingwrong Yup. There are supposedly larger vessels, though they are probably only deployed in Superpower-warfare (Full-on war between Empire and Federation), or if the Thargoids really get out of control.
Crazywolfman11 Empire will endure any threat from that Thargoid alien scum. If they attack the Empire, they will be eventually destroyed. And if you federals ask nicely, maybe the Emipre will be willing to save your miserable Federation. For the right price, of course :-) Glory to Eternal Empire!!!
Mzz Grann The primitive act of slavery has been opposed and stomped out for more than a millennia now, and yet you imps still consider exploiting and using it to fuel your selfish, aristocratic, and greedy ways. Who's evil now?
Check out star citizen.. Players are supposedly able to command massive ships like this. It will need a well organized guild or organization of sorts I believe to be effective though.
+Finchi it'd be pointless, you can't move around the ship, + how would players actually work together to run these massive ships, especially because you can't even move freely in this game. And don't say "I could do it on my own". Because there are so many jobs to make on of these efficient it's not even funny
actually, the "moving around ships" and stations is a feature being worked on, and it's one of the last expansions to come through for Horizons, as long as multi-crewed ships. For now they just released the ability to land on planets without any considerable atmosphere, so they're on it.
Fret not, my good fellow. Warp portal are purple! But if the Imperium got their hands with technology that doesn't risk the whole crew being possesed... who am I kidding, the adeptus mechanicus would label it tech-heresy
you shit you'r pant's every time one of those monster ship's warp in when you are in the middle of a conflickt zone. and that huge horn noise it make's is soo cool
Michael Maszk Horn? That's the sound of it ripping space so thoroughly apart that a hunk of metal over a kilometer long can move faster than the speed of light!
+Ottologist I would like to point out that the dimensions, according to FDev, for a Farragut are 2km x 0.8km x 0.3km. I don't believe they have official specifications for a Majestic Class Interdictor, but I can only assume they are similar. Taller, but less wide, about the same length, probably.
+HellsRaven4444 Now i understand why this Sound come everytime a HUGE Monsership warp in! And it's a cool fact that gave me chills down my Spine for some reason. Everytime a Ship large as a Capital Class or a Reaper makes this noise it indicates that a realy REALY BIG hunk of Metal up to 2 Kms ripping space so hard apart that it can fly faster than light! The Noise and this explantation gave me a Nerdboner xD
If only EVE Online was not about piloting a spreadsheet and you could purchase lifetime subscription it would be better - you can build, own and pilot capital ships far better.
-Hey tom, tonight a comet will pass by earth, it is a unique event! -Meh.... *later* -HEY TOM, I'VE FOUND TWO CAPITAL SHIPS FIGHTING EACH OTHER! -OUTTA MY WAY EVERYONE! *runs faster than Usain Bolt to his computer*
Sweet mother of.... My imagination just went wild, so many possibilities with assets such as these Though if you ask me... those ships should come equiped with Class 10 plasma canons and should be able to slug it out for real between themselves...
+TheSonOfLiberty That is ingame music. The soundtrack of elite is first class. As is the rest of the sound design. If you listen to the ships, you can hear many things. The weapon sounds change depending on the capacitor charge, engine sound change with speed and drift. Supercruise sounds are dynamic. Trust me this game with a good headset is well worth it's money alone for the sounds. Same goes for ships around you. Their sounds are dependend on what they do. So you can hear when your opponent puts on boost next to you and stuff like that.
+Achim Hanischdörfer 10/10 wud back elite again on kickstart: I ran into my own RL named NPC in game, and killed him via suicide. its the best thing ever.
This is what CQC should be. Both of these ships launching a ton of fighters (5 vs 5 or 10 vs 10) fighters against one another. The winner will make the other capital ship retreat.
Content like this is awesome. More like this is what ED needs to breakup the monotony that gradually takes place. But more than anything, it gives the game character. The absurdity of it all gives the game a much needed personality that it lacks.
They don't get damaged unless a player intervenes, a player can go and destroy the heat sinks, then at that point the capital ship will jump out to avoid getting destroyed
I wish this game was more like this. In fact I only saw a capital ship once, a smaller one and only fighting small ships. I wish you could actually control these beasts in a meaningful EVE-like battle for supremacy. That is my gaming dream. This video is great.
The sound effects going on between about 00:12 to 0:29 is some of the most amazing audio work I've heard. Damn that's a "oh fuck" sound. I've watched that part over so many times, chills :P
+helloimrobin Yes, this was one of the reasons I bought the game. The whole sound work in this game is just amazing. And funny, as it is only your ship "faking" the sounds so the pilot can locate threats. No joke, that's the explanation for sounds in space by frontier :D
Man, imagine if Frontier adds in fleet warping. Where theres a possibility that a fleet of non-corvette ships (instead of just one) can warp into a high conflict zone.
Would look alot nicer if you had large impacts on the capital from eachothers fire (shield flares etc) Since it dosent really look like there fire is doing anything. But then again this video is several months old so might have been "fixed" by now. And gotta say the Feds must be breaking some kind of international law with those Epilepsy Lasers.
I imagine that if you're unfortunate enough to fly in front of one of those sudden appearing monsters when they're coming out of slip-space, that you'll be freaking obliterated by them just flying through you.
I like to think that the capital ship captains usually have a meeting and mark the day they are supposed to fight so they arrive at nearly the same time
MentrySK opinions but I'd say Elite Dangerous. Right now, it is really massive and open. As for Star Citizen, not 100% completed, obvious holes and it a real wallet emptier if you really want to get into it. I am a big fan of ED so I am biased. Either one you choose, good luck.
MentrySK Star Citizen will have a whole first person shooter side to things as well. You can get Star Citizen for half the price as Elite as of now, but I would wait and see if SC lives up to the hype, which right now it is exceeding it. I'd personally buy both though, they're both amazing games. Elite if you want to shoot stuff and dogfight now, Star Citizen if you don't mind waiting for the full game for more variety.
It always seemed to me Farragut was better at fighting off multiple smaller ships, with its numerous fast firing lasers and autocannons with wide arcs, but not so good at fighting other capital ships, having only broadside torpedo tubes which I've never seen fire, and the Majestic being the exact opposite, with those huge deck beam cannons, but having a pretty weak point defense with glaring blind spots
Hmmmmm.... kinda reminds me of the laser light show at a Pink Floyd concert...Is it normal for the two ships to just stop sort of side by side and fire away at each other, kinda like how the old sailing ships use to do back in the day? Doesn't seem to be any tactical advantage in that IMHO. I would think you'd want to be moving around instead of, "okay, I'll lay here and you lay there and we'll fire at each other till one of us has total shield failure and blows up". Just sayin...
brettt777 the turrets are automated and the ship size is far too large for mobility to even be a considerable factor. Moving would just waste fuel, and wouldnt do much for anyone. In fact, moving may put some turrets in their dead zone, making it so guns couldnt get on target, so sitting still is probably the best option
When those capital ships warped in, I got the same feeling I had when Serenity baited the Reaver fleet out of that cosmic cloud to fight the Alliance fleet.
At some point they need to get those capital ships moving around, not just sitting there. Very cool, but them sluggishly maneuvering about would be way more interesting.
That feeling when 2 massive ships break through the fabric of space time and reality freeze itself for a couple seconds; and your hands get all sweaty in anticipation for a mother of a fight, hoping to get through it with some of your hull intact.
+Eric Worthing what do you want them to do dance around? The shear size of them would make it impossible to move fast enough to dodge whatever. The turrets are all automated so no point moving around.
6 years and still havent seen a better capital vs capital ship battle vid that really captures the moment and the spirit of it. Love those battles, even in engineered corvette I feel squishy there if I dont play smart... and to fly anything squishier than big 3? Man i aplaud anyone and praise their skills that do so. OR maybe it was easier before engeeners? Dunno but ... capital battles should be capital and tough, even if that means just sponge mobs but still :]
No tactics, just standing side to side and throwing as much stuff at each other as they can ? I don't think that such use of these ships would be economical in any real situation, especially if they are of comparable power. Plus, i don't see any shielding activate on them. They don't need it :) ?
It’s kind of like the beginnings of human navy (water) where all you do is ram each other same deal here. It must develop over time and new tactics will come to play. We are only talking 1500 yrs in the future
Kinda seems like the Federal cruiser is made for sweeping an area of smaller ships while the Imperial Interdictor is an anti-capital battleship, probably built as a direct counter to it
If these are made available to players, they better cost somewhere in the tens of trillions of credits. Then again... what use would they even be to a player other than an endgame space-base? Maybe a portable hangar to keep all your different ships in instead of a station? Who knows...
Frontier actually announced that they plan to add them in a year or two. My in game player faction plans to own one to house our battle fleet. I cant wait!
+STORMgalaxy Studios just thought I'd drop in and say Star Citizen will have cap ships as well, and you'll be able to multicrew and hire NPCS for them ;D
If anyone of you wants to know, there is an almost 50 percent chance of seeing both or at least one capital ship spawning in two high intensity combat zones in Artemis. The combat zones are located around 560 Ls away from the coriolis starport ( I forgot the name of it, but there is only one). 24.2.16
It looks so stupid. Two giant spaceships fights like middle ages sailing frigates, in front of each other. Every space combat should be beyond visible range and on extremely high relative velocities
How I miss 1999. Remember Freespace 2 Capital Ships fights ? Now I can't help but yawn when I see this ^^ Don't get me wrong, I'm in love with ED, but I say let's wait for the real thing. :)
+Shoco Canelle Well these two can only do so much to each other with megawatt range weaponry... A Perseus could single handedly destroy both of those, and not in the "oh no I took too much damage, i should warp out" sense either. More in the "bisected by a dual Trebuchet to the reactor" sense. (Only thing I know of from the Elite verse that can pose a serious threat in other verses, is the Quirium Cascade Mine. And that is a fanon creation)
Patrick Lloyd True ^^ Thing is, I understand Freespace is a fantasy setup while ED tries to stay on the simulator side. What I meant is : back in 1999, we had massive and epic space battles that felt great. Like you say, where weaponry could tear in half ships and capital ships. They talked a bit about adding new weapons, I do hope we'll see some of those massive beams and huge anti-cruiser bombs. ^^ Anyway, feels nice to "meet" someone who knows and likes Freespace :D
In the description it's wrote "Imperial and Federation Capital Ships fighting each other. The Combat Zone is at Derrim system, next to planet Derrim B 2." Is it a persistent event ? A dynamique event ? A mission ? A factional mission ? I want to be sure before to go there. Thanks in advance ;)
+Brandon Denson Capital Ships don't show up for "civil wars", only "War", which is between independent/fed, fed/empire, or empire/independent.. If both parties are independent, empire, or fed, it's "civil war".
***** No.. They aren't ALL civil wars. That's what I am telling you. A "Civil" war is what happens when 2 factions with the same major faction (empire/fed/alliance) fight for control/influence in a system. A "WAR", is what happens when 2 minor factions with DIFFERENT MAJOR factions fight for control. There's even a different "status" for them shown in the System Map.. Instead of "Civil war" it will just say "War".. "Wars" are the only places you will find Capital ships, and in my experience they are there more often than not.
+Brandon Denson Sigh. Dude, you're wrong. There are two different kinds of "wars" in Elite:Dangerous. "WAR" and "CIVIL WAR".. I've explained this two times now. Here's an excerpt from the Wiki:" Any station which has its State marked on the system map as War or Civil War is guaranteed to have conflict zones. This also goes for a star system which has one of its local factions marked that way in system map view."Capital Ships only show up at "WAR" Conflict Zones, and "WAR" conflict zones only happen between minor factions with different major factions.
+Andreas Lehmann Uh-huh.... no shields... riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. You do realize that he's several KM out for most of this, right? And that you can't see those because of that?
Theyre sitting still and most of what you see are lasers.. what are the ships gonna do, lead ahead with lasers? Or are we forgetting *hehehe* "Photon torpedoes" 😂😂😂
The sound of a capital ship dropping from witchspace raises my blood and puts me in the "time for a real fight" mode I zone hard In a big fight But capital ships are a whole other beast for me and I LIVE for that rush. FOR VALHALLA!!! FOR THE FEDERATION!!!
Ooooh look at those huge ships, wow they are amazing, look at all the guns on them, there must be dozens of guns all over those monster ships... 1:30 "Under Attack" 1:32 RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!! RUN AWAY!!!!!
Ah yes...In the vastness of space, several kilometer long behemoths, marvels of technologie and armed to the teeth, fighting each other...at knife distance... Navigator: Captain, we calculated enemy jump coordinates, shall we engage? Captain: Of course! Also jump directly next to them...I wanna hit em with my sword!
Horizon update adds AI controlled stuff right? :/ I mean, we'll have the corvette and that big imperial warship. But what if the capital ships start deploying stuff. xD The Farragut is suppose to carry like 6 corvettes. D:
Hm...i am a bit disappointed, looks boring....no maneuvers, no fleets, no incoming messages, only two capitals doing a lightshow? And why are there no kinetic weapons involved?...even simulators in the 90s were more thrilling than that....freespace 2 e.g....hopefully star citizen gets better in this aspect.
The title should be either "Imperial vs Federal" or "Empire vs Federation". Yes, I know I am a pedantic bastard but it's a pandemic and there isn't much to do.
It's funny, their jump is the same as that of an fleet carrier, which means that it is possible that the engines work according to the same principle and are fueled with tritium. Sadly. Refueling such a colossus in the current realities will be quite expensive ...
A cruiser with too many laser and machine gun weapons for its own good vs a giant donut shaped ship which fights by sending interceptors that don't exist (only in cinematic but you can use your imagination :D) with 2 laser weapons... I think we can already tell who wins from the very beginning
This must be the most boring way anyone ever designed a space battle. Not moving at all, just sitting there perfectly aligned, doing little piu piu against each other. No space battle would ever look like that. The designer for this should be fired, seriously.
If the game will have better mission helping system, i will like it... until then a big NO NO, that is not a mission: "Go to X system, and kill Y, btw the target is in space" thanx. the big ships is a good new thing, but....
Just imagining if they ever add the ability to have a capital class ship just flying it around and then entering a compromised Nav Beacon and making this dramatic enterance while making an evil laugh and seeing all the NPC Ships warp out.
OH my... just got back from "independent" tedious job collecting star system's data for food (credits :p) star by star.. planet by planet, and then watching this video. Seems like I will change my job and pledge an alliance. Star wars.. here I come :D
