im pretty sure the difficulty of the interdictions is the way it is on purpose and nothing to do with being out of practice, I can escape interdictions fairly often in my krait but it handles like a type 9 would getting interdicted when the thargoids do it. Makes sense considering our frame shift drives are literally reverse engineered from their drives so their version of interdictions are going to be vastly more difficult.
@@mikkdc Yeah thats what I started doing in further interdictions, my krait can punch 500+ when boosting so I can pretty much just outrun the thargoids after submitting till the FSD cooldown is done
wasnt the fsd only partially based on their tech, hyperspace travel was taken from them supercruise invented by us havent read into the lore for a while but i think, as i said supercruise tech isnt based on goid tech
@@k3v1n73 it doesnt matter either way, the basis came from thargoid tech anyway as faster than light travel (supercruise) piggybacks off of the frameshift drive which is reverse engineered thargoid tech, meaning its much easier for them to reverse engineer our variants than it was for us, with nothing, to reverse engineer theirs. Thats the entire point I was trying to make.
If you haven't already, you've GOT to approach the mealstrom with the planet and its terminator line behind it, so you can see the local star that's on the planet's horizon shining through the cloud. THAT is a beauty shot. Absolutely stunning. I got interdicted SO MANY TIMES just flying back and forth in supercruise to see that amazing lighting tech.
Some tips on dealing with the hyperdictions and interdictions in non combat/slower ships is to submit, pop a heat sink and run. If you submit, your fsd recharges faster and if your temperature is below 10%, they can't target you effectively
This seems to be reviving interest in ED. That's a good thing. I'm back in for the first time since 2020. Gotta grind for a bit to do some ship upgrades. Shard cannons are good 'goid medicine and I need plenty!
FYI you are always moving inside the cloud, it's not that the material moves but that your ship and everything is moving too! So bring limpits people If you want to collect!
Suspect we'll need to collect the 'Massive Pulse Analysis Data' or whatever it was called for Ramtah/Palin to develop tech to overcome the pulse and allow us deeper in.
I've seen a bunch of attempts to reach the center already. One of them was very impressive, taken from a well equipped pilot that had field neutralisers and beams to overheat the ship and remove the caustic effect. All that happens is they survive long enough to be thrown away multiple times by the wave. It's pretty clear to me the center is still locked away, until we get some kind of new module or someone finds the trick like carrying relics into it.
Man, thanks for spending your time, ships, and currency to show us this. I'm unsure I'll play again, but I love watching your stuff to sort of vicariously experience the game. Thanks again ObsidianAnt :)
To help with hyperdiction. You can see the Thargoids in the contact panel now before they try to pull you out. If they grab you, just submit and boost! Fighting will give you a higher cooldown. Now for the Maelstrom. Either Lagrange clouds are baby stargoids. Or this is just the wake storm as the object rips through witchspace. Using the nearby star, I can confirm there is no actual object inside the cloud. Unless! The computer glitch isn't a glitch and the object is actually teleporting from spot to spot. Taking a break. But I noticed some curious behavior from an interceptor inside the Maelstrom. Flying around picking up shards and crystals it paid no mind. I shoot a mine for the mechanics though... It flew over to look where it was, scanned and cried as it shook. Then locked onto me...
there is something inside it. the sun might go through it, but you can see distortions and large teal spots. this indicates some kind of cloaking device.
According to the changelogs, they added a new interceptor variant this update: the orthrus. It's supposedly a cargo or logistics interceptor, and is not made for attacking, and will instead call other interceptors in for support if attacked.
@@kerravon6058 I would say there's a lot of fun elements about this game that make it dynamic and bringing more content to that would be better, but combat is the primary reason people play (exploration eventually runs out once you see every type of star) and this is a great addition. Good lore too in my opinion. I agree still a lazy approach but I find it cool the way they introduce it.
@@Andromedon777 I loath combat and I've being playing Elite in its various forms since 1984 - so we have already found an exception to your blatant oversimplification of what Elite Dangerous Players "want" now haven't we .
The inside cloud reminds me of when a fleet carrier is reaching its destination in witch space. I’m wondering if we are watching something massive pass through/push through witch space.
I have found that if you fly erratically toward your selected target, you will not get interdicted by the Thargoids. Do not fly straight toward your target. You will get pulled every time.
That's right, they gave you a FREE copy of the game and offered free profile transfers so you can play after publicly stating months ago that they were terminating console development.... Beats other cloud providers like Google who give you 2 months to exit and give you no alternative. Just use GeForce Now and transfer your profile. Saves you buying a PC and cheaper electricity too.
In the patch notes there was a mention of a "binding added for the Shut Down Field Neutralizer", so I assume that will be what we use to get around the big shut down field
No that’s so it’s easier to avoid the shut downs from interceptors. This object just yeets you outside the cloud (at 1000c in reverse) it doesn’t shut down the ship.
@Xeno Crimson Imagine what that would be like at 1000c. That moment when the Stargoid imparts its relativistic speed buff to you via the massive energy surge. Once your ship is done tumbling, you find yourself several thousand lightseconds away.
OK, something of interest from poking around... "In Celtic mythology, Taranis (Proto-Celtic: *Toranos, earlier *Tonaros; Latin: Taranus, earlier Tanarus) is the god of thunder," Yeah, and all of the Maelstroms are named after thunder dieties. But, there is something else associated with Tanaris... "The wheel, more specifically the chariot wheel with six or eight spokes, was an important symbol in historical Celtic polytheism, apparently associated with a specific god, known as the wheel-god, identified as the sky- sun- or thunder-god, whose name is attested as Taranis by Lucan." So... Thargoids kinda look like wheels. Dark wheels. Wait a second... Is the center of the Maelstrom... Raxxla?
Hmmmmm, makes me think about the Far God cultists deifying the goids.... some say Raxxla can be interpreted as a "state of cosmic enlightenment"... However, another part of the Raxxla mythos states that it "is said to hold an alien artefact called the Omphalos Rift, which acts as a gateway to parallel universes." Dang... who knows.
If I ever get back to the bubble from deep space - currently ~5000Lys away from the bubble in the general direction of the galactic center (if there is a bubble left after all..) I will take a default sindy and try to approach one of these. Definitely not with an conda..
okay heres an idea we need to start working on first we need to destroy those caustic field generators that are around the maelstrom, i believe that will effect the maelstrom since they seem to be the source of the cloud. second we need to start scooping up those shards(they may be a thargoid catalyst for the anti guardian wave, as well as our means to counter the wave.) third we need to start targeting the new variant as i suspect they will play an important role in keeping systems secure. if you see one in a system without a large thargoid presence, kill it and report it. a scout ship maybe only just that, a scout. but if it makes it our of a system it could bring more back. this is no longer about stopping a menace. its about survival.
Perhaps the energy in the unknown artefacts in your storage act (or will be made to act down the line) as a false ping that tricks Thargoid ships into thinking you're friendly vessel for a short period until the energy runs out in the maelstrom. While it's active you can grab a few caustic shards, but have to book it before you're destroyed. Don't have odyssey so it's just a guess.
It's a tornado in space, if you drop containers they go whizzing around. The pulse as its kinetic is a result of something spinning very, very fast. Crossing that boundary requires either skill/ new tech or there is a route in. I suspect a combination.
Wow! You got incredible footage of the pulse! I'm very much feeling this is a Mothership or Queen. Interested to see how all this plays out, especially the release of the Orthrus. Has anyone seen it yet? I've been looking but haven't had any luck.
I have heard people calling the thing in the center as possibly a Titan. Whatever that is, they were referencing something from the old games or other lore sources that I know nothing about.
IIRC the Orthrus has been around for a bit already - it showed up over Palin's lab a while back, people got pictures while it was running away from them.
the system in general with the maelstrom in it messes up guardian tech too like in hip 22460 so it might well be an altered proteus wave style thing being deployed from whatever ship/structure is masked in the center of the cloud.
Or perhaps it’s a thing they already had, as if the guardian species tried using something like the proteus wave on the goids before. It would explain how easily the proteus wave was countered.
@@cmdrhops418 It's a possibility sure, they are known however to rapidly adapt to weapons being used against them also, look at the AX weapons reduced effectiveness against the more difficult interceptors once they arrived. They may have just altered their usual shutdown fields to also damage guardian tech as they saw salvation was using a mass destruction weapon based on guardian tech. And then was further developed from there to be more widespread.
I'm also finding that the interdiction's become stale VERY quickly - it's a nightmare if you're going into these systems for anything other than combat. Perhaps FDev will tweak it so it happens a bit less frequently.
who knows maybe you need to take some of the alien relics with you when you go to the center of the maelstrom as it is registrating you as human , will try out my self soon
It's not the caustic shard evading the scooping, it's the ship thrusters malfunctioning constantly while trying to do that. Just my own observation, nothing proven. My ship is constantly fighting whatever the force is preventing him from getting too close to the center
maybe bringing some Guardian tech or Relics might have some effect ? Also, having a few wingmen on your side may help with the interdictions. Might need to overwhelm the Thargoids. Players should meet in adjacent system, jump in with as many fighters as possible. Kinda like a " Distant Worlds" but for AX combat. ( Is that "healing" laser mod still in the game?) and does armor help defend against the effects of the Maelstrom??
Did you, in your PREVIOUS video, happen to change the GRAPHIC SETTINGS? I experienced very WEIRD performance degradation when changing SETTINGS (regardless of the DIRECTION of the QUALITY), until I RESTARTED the client. I've dropped out of trying SEVERAL updates ago though.
The interdiction is amazing thing to farm materials and goids without wasting time on looking for them. Can be irritating for explorers and non combat pilots i guess.
looking at twitch viewers right now, this seems to have picked up some interests in the game. ED: 1K viewers NMS: 500 viewers SC: 3K viewers The question is, for how long will the uptick last if Fdev don't do anything until 2023...
Im glad to see a new wave of interest is coming to Elite, hope it keeps up, seems like seeing the bubble burn is finally happening after all :) I rememeber this talk from years ago
Flying to the very heart of this massive new intergalactic threat, epicenter of the Thargoid menace itself, and the fact you can't fly freely to get there and get interdicted is "annoying"? 🤔
Well this game is exciting again :) @ObsidianAnt on the FPS issues down on the ground, have you tried using Rivatuner to log your play session? Specifically the FPS/Frametimes and GPU load % and CPU load %. I'd be curious to see if the low FPS is due to some other bottleneck (CPU maybe) or if it's just that hard to render and your GPU is pegged at 100% and can't do anymore. I know you have a decently powerful GPU so if it's pegged at 100 then that shows there's still a ton of optimizations FDev needs to do. We shouldn't need to have a 4090 to get acceptable and consistent FPS in ground zones!
I could not pinpoint the exact issue that OA was having, since I don't have his computer, but Odyssey is still very unoptimized in some ways. A frame analyzer will reveal that there are more than 800 events just for the HUD reticle, and this has persisted since the launch-day client which had the same number of events acting on just the reticle. There have been optimizations in the rendering pass since Odyssey launch, but there is still more work to do. And that's just from information that can be extracted from a frame analyzer, I'm sure low-hanging fruit could be identified if the executable got hooked up to a CPU profiler.
@@elixwhitetail Wow that's nuts! My computer with a 1080 FE stands no chance if OA's setup is having issues. Seems to me they should just hire a few graphics specialists to work on optimizing the client, if they can't be bothered to put time into themselves.
The standard interdiction rules still apply, i guess the thargoids are present as contacts, they are just not visible. So moveing slowly in a staright line is not the best idea. Throttle up, and do loop of shames. Otherwise the interdiction fights seems impossible to win, so always submit, so low the FSD cooldown will be significantly lower. The best solution here is to bring a fast ship. In the mealstorm there are thargoid caustic generators which makes the caustic cloud. Geting close to one makes them explode, so watch out. In the middle there is the thargoid Titan. The left side of the radar shows it shape, and its siluette clearly visible when it uses its surge wave, which is currently unavoidable. New stuff will come, one of them is caustic sink which probably will be similar to the heat sink. So probably a new method will be comeing to reach the Titan, but we not there yet.
The Thargoids are visible as contacts on the radar and the contact list in supercruise. It is possible to avoid an interdiction (my brother spent 5 minutes avoiding one) but then got a sidewinder error I think, so perhaps they're expecting you to submit from a codebase perspective.
Barnacle forests are broken right now. You can't get into one without your game crashing. My game saved my ship finally just above one, and now I can't log in and play; it just crashes. Something's broken in there.
Regarding on foot combat, it seems like a missed opportunity to not include some either indoctrinated or simply a contingent of human NPCs who side with the Thargoids to make the invasion seem more absolute. They already have human NPCs and players who sympathize with the Thargoids, so then it'd be incredibly basic to add sabotage/anti-sabotage missions as the war progresses. The maelstrom does look quite interesting at least, I just hope they do more for the war than what boils down to Mass Effect 3 multiplayer "readiness" missions and actually involve the community.
Ah, I thought I had zero chance of evading these interdictions because I was flying a non-engineered Anaconda. Good to see that others are struggling as well. 😀
CAUSTIC SHARD -- instead of scooping it yourself, how about using one of those mining LIMPETS? (I haven't mined, and not played in months due to GPU failure & lack of replacement...) Isn't it possible to "target" pickable items for LIMPET retrieval? like for those Black Box missions??
probably not a problem with odyssey but your graphics card from the last video. The fps drop was likely due to caustic gas and the fires - any kind of smoke/high particle density effects will drop framerate
Not sure how the promise of support roles is playing out. Rescue missions are going to take you deep into Goid areas and the nonstop hyperdictions/interdictions are very difficult to escape. What of the players that are not combat focused or even newish/new players for that matter? Waaaay too dangerous for them. Do FDev want to increase the player base or not? 7 more Stargoids inbound that we know of and that might be too much. Are the Goids going to advance system to system or sit where they are? I see a magic McGuffin coming on the end of another mind-numbing grind. Part of me wishes the Goids can't be stopped and the bubble has to be abandoned.
I've been away from playing ED for the better part of 1½ years Gave Odyssey a try but like so many gave up after such bad optimization. Worth coming back after latest update?
It sounds like to me that there's a Thargoid mothership in the maelstrom. Wish the devs hadn't abandoned console, would totally still be playing elite dangerous if they hadn't.
I'm still convinced mother/hive ships are within these clouds. My strongest reasoning for this, aside from them being the centers of an invasion force, is that the caustic cloud surrounding them is an effective and logical defense against Humanity. Why wouldn't they have developed it after what Commander Jameson did?
Gonna be some "new" tech to cargo scoop thr shards then players will have to spend ages grinding those for a cg, then they'll have to spend ages grinding them for some new hull tech or something that let's you see what's in the clouds, you blow up one new thargoid model for a while, event over.
Maybe it won't let you in because you didn't request a docking pad. All other stations get pretty mad about that so it makes since a Thargoid station would do the same.
Another great video, thanks so much. I'm brand new to ED. I purchased it in the summer at 75% off, but I didn't play it (too busy with No Man's Sky). Yesterday just before the Steam Autumn sale ended I purchased the ED Odyssey expansion. My question is, where should I start to play ED from as a band new player?
Just dive in! You'll be in the starter systems to begin with so can slowly improve or upgrade your ship before leaving that area. Playing in Open mode leaves you vulnerable to attack from other human players but save up enough credits for your insurance and you'll be fine. Don't be too upset when you get blown up by a human - it WILL happen. I always play in Open because it's more fun and I've been blown up loads and not had enough credits for insurance so went into debt, where each mission earning has some money deducted until you repay your debt. Try it and see! Lot of fun to be had, see you out there.
@@sideparting6845 Thanks so much for your reply and suggestions based on your experience in ED. I'll definitely jump right in and give it a try. I'm really looking forward to it.
I did try slowing down to a complete stop when you see the pulse firing up. I am unsure if the pulse sends you flying relative to your approach speed, so a speed of 0 would mean you're immune. Will try later.
In a true sim military weapons would become available to non military craft, and you would get military contracts for delivering those or get an actual active rank / role in the military. Besides they would quickly adjust weapons to become more effective against them... And less effective against human players. So taking on that role and those weapons will make you a dedicated anti xeno force member
If "RUNNING COLD" (Silent Running) can sneak past Thargs, can not the Maelstrom centre be "aimed at", boosted toward, then pop heatsinks, shut everything down, and "coast in" like a penguin tummy-surfing the ice? O_O :D :D :D :D :D :D
I'm afraid that there's little new and interesting features that make me want to play E:D for more than an hour or two per month. I'm not interested in a first person shooter nor in combating Thargoids or massive grinds for tech. Which is a bummer, because just cruising around in space doing missions is fun.
yeah same, its sad. Also sad to see OA's videos sometimes because Space games are really not there yet, and are full of disappointment and untapped potential.
@@moodswinggaming2972 And games are really difficult to write and the expectations of players for £20 outlay and thousands of hours of gameplay is vastly skewed!
Yes overheating will remove caustic damage but there's so many Thargoid caustic generators farting out gas to burn you. Not sure on the unknown artifact.... I suppose that really does make it "unknown"...
send someone in going max velocity right as the pulse hits to see if the pulse has a cool down. you might be able to snag a shot of what's inside right before the next pulse
Their interactions with players were passive at first. Either sniffing us out to see if we are the same faction of the species that committed bio war on their kind (their species is also a species of factions so they perhaps understood not all humans maybe enemies) or not interested in attacking us and more concerned about resource gathering from the barnacles. Obviously humans have chose in game to both take their resources they farm as well as attack and destroy vessels of theirs. So I think lore wise humanity has finally done enough biting for the lion to be annoyed at the ants biting its foot and they're actively hunting us rather than their previous inspecting us.
Errrrrr did you watch the same video? It just showed a brand new entity that we can't work out how to get to the centre of..... What were you expecting? Have you worked out how to get to the centre? Please enlighten us.
That's been publicly stated quite some time ago and that console development was ceasing. Why do people persist in mentioning it? You don't see Mac users constantly mentioning the lack of Elite on there. Transfer your profile to PC and use your FREE copy of the game. Use GeForce Now if you don't want to buy a PC. I don't see how they could make it any easier or do more for console players.
Damn... you're still experiencing drops? I definitely do when with certain friends, but otherwise, it seems FAR MORE stable, now. I've even managed to up my settings.
@@thehipinmyear 😆 I don't play the Odyssey version. Actually I don't play any version of ED anymore because I don't have the time. I was just saying what I said because Ant said he was down to like 20 some FPS.
