Wow Xeno... Very inspiring... I am Australian not Swiss and I was getting goose bumps watching this... What a truly amazing moment for You & Rowing as a Sport... P.s I watched your 'Rowing Technique' Video & it helped me immensely, My French coach this week asked what happened to me & said i was like a master this past weekend, all thanks to you,,, Cheers... Mitch
I was always fuel by a lot of "I am going to show you all" energy. By the time of this race I had beaten everybody directly: Cop in the heat, Porter in the semi, and Lange by time, that I needed to get my thoughts straightened out by my coach, Marty. I told him that I needed a pep talk the day before this race. He did a great job. Nervous I was, the race felt very heavy on my mind and in the race I had to stay fluid, which all good but i had to catch up and put more torque behind the blade.
Yes there. It seems like the rower has to fit into the boat... instead of the other way around. When I get rowing footage I help scullers with their rigging. Have a look at my site and pick how I can assist you. Cheers from California, Xeno
@Foodfairy100 Yes studying and rowing at the same time was tough, add to this that I was on my fifth language, French. I did my schooling in France. I don't know how I did it.
@mitchtickler I added a lot of content on row2go with slow motion analysis of my sculling technique. Join row2go and nothing will be a mystery anymore.
@jaketsnyder Hi, It was quick, no wind, warm water. Let's see what happens in London. My fastest was in Lucerne, no wind, very warm water, back in 1994 and 1995. 6:38, 6:37 respectively. Changes in oar lengths and blade size might bring change to 2K times.
@Foodfairy100 Yes, lonely... I would have loved rowing a double scull, but then again you always think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. I really enjoyed the eight at Brown University, except after training the first year with Scott Roop, we did not train as much with Steve Gladstone. For some that was OK, for me I gained weight and did not qualify for the world championship in the single scull.
@geeNteefilms the most annoying part of rowing is that there is so much downtime between races at the Olympics and World Championship. You have plenty of time to think of what ifs. However the greatest mistake one can do is talk to journalists. It is journalists who ask the stupid what if questions. Luckily my coach completely stopped direct communication between me and the journalists :-) That Marty is a smart guy.
