Unboxing, setup, and review of the Elite Screens Aeon CLR2 Series Ambient Light Projecting Fixed Screen to go with my Ultra Short Throw Formovie Theater Projector. If you saw my last video (linked below), you know that I am replacing my LG OLED TV due to its massive burn-in issues (See my last video here: • Why I am replacing my ... )
Because we do not yet know if the newer sets do much better, I will be switching to a different technology for the time being.
This screen measures a massive 103” and is in the 16:9 format. The Formovie Projector is a 4K Ultra Short Throw and supports all the newest technologies. Its only missing feature is 3d support, but there is a chance this will be added later…though I do not really watch 3d content anyway.
In this video, you will see a quick set-up of the screen, an overview of my impressions, and some important tips to make your own screen installation go smooth. I found it very difficult to film the projected image and give a good representation of what I see versus what the camera sees, so just know that the video is not true to life and the camera added a lot of contrast making the edges of the screen and outward very dark even though I had lights on for most of the process. The brightness of the projected image just overwhelmed my camera and blew it out from the center. I am sure I could get a more accurate representation with a lot of trial and error, but I don’t think its really necessary here.
Some basic stats on this screen, it is the CLR2 model at 103” and features ambient light rejection of up to 65% of overhead light. The higher end models can go up to 95% or thereabouts, but cost at least 3 times as much. This screen features a 0.8 gain and a fairly wide 120 degree viewing angle and is only suitable for short throw and ultra short throw projectors.
I didn’t mention it in this video, but the built in Google TV of this projector lacks Netflix support currently. I find the interface a bit slow compared to my Google TV dongle, so I just use that and it supports everything and is snappier all around.
As this is my first projector, please let me know any tips, advice or anything I missed in the comments below!
