I Lived in PE as a Child in 1979. Went to Piet Retief School. Lived in Sidwell. Dad Worked at Sydenham Loco. Grandma Worked at Sydenham Hotel. My Mom and us Kids could walk to the Shops. No Problem. We Lived in the Block of Flats in Sidwell near Fire Brigade. Now PE is not the same anymore. What is?

Elizabeth Centre did look really nice with lovely garden's and space. But now it's crowded with car parks and no space or garden's it's ugly and unkept .

I've got to agree with Matt. I liked how it looked back when you could walk through the centre,and feel the warmth and sunlight,sitting on the well kept grass near the fountain in summer. Thankyou for the memories 💜

I remember this. They‘ll make all the excuses as to why it is the was it is now. They’ll say how much better it is now. Back then I enjoyed visiting the Centre. Now it’s full of junk.

sundays,, we used to skate from the clock tower to big W,,, it was all down hill . think the centre closed at 12.30 saturday afternoon

Its a shame everything cant be green anymore because they have to keep up the illusion of a constant crises.

Thanks for the memories! RAAF kid in Elizabeth, 71 - 73, South Downs Primary and Craigmore High. Always seemed to be something to do...👍

More memories. Mum worked in John Martins in the early days. Way back before Hungry Jacks and Maccas there used to be a small Burger King outlet on one wall of the store. First taste of burgers!! It was not there all that long. We really felt posh as kids going up the escalators to "The Buttery" for lunch on the second floor.

Memories of skating through there in the late 79s early 80s. Always remember in the mid 70s as a kid, watching a ventriloquist perform in the area out front of John Martin's. I was amazed when he was able to make it sound as if someone was talking back to him from the ceiling 30 or 40 feet above us.

Totally brilliant... Elizabeth CITY Centre before it was ruined..the Octagon...an important venue to so many of us... Thanks...and thanks to whoever supplied the footage.

Wow some great old memories, grew up Eliz Downs - Lindsay street before moving to Smithfield, my dad had the house across from the Train station "KJ Electronics"

its the dirt paths that funnel into a sheep track amongst the grass, that i recall the most ...you can see it in some of the video. before everything was concreted. lots of places in elizabeth had this. a real sign of kids on pushbikes..
