In 1964, following Elizabeth's severance from the council district of Salisbury, construction began on the Elizabeth Civic Theatres, Elizabeth City Council Chambers and John Martin's. The following year Holden's Elizabeth went into full production for the first time. It was a year when all the hard work, sweat, dreams and tears seemed to be paying of for our Elizabeth Originals. A time when Elizabeth really did seem to be the 'City of Tomorrow...'

Thankyou Will. I'was just a wee bub but I remember it was 1967 when we moved there. They must of done alot to the Elizabeth City centre garden from here,1964 to 1967 because I remember it looked different to this. It was beautiful, so I thought. 💜❤️🌲

My pleasure Kari. Yes - the development of the city centre accelerated rapidly from 1964 - once Elizabeth became its own council district. There is an Elizabeth City Under Construction Timeline video I made that runs from 1955 - 1970 you may enjoy watching: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XBpWcWtkTf0.html

Thanks again Will. I always feel quite nostalgic when I watch these videos. I imagine my parents and grandparents walking through those areas. I loved 'Johnnies' and the cafe and hairdressers in there. ( Shergis?) Sooo many changes.

My pleasure Susan. I'm hoping to have more time in the new year to get back to the narrated mini-doco format. Thank you for your ongoing support of the channel - it's much appreciated :-)

Wow mate that was really wonderful. 64 I was on the Fairsea on the way over I turned 4 on the ship. I am always fascinated looking at the roads before the town was built up. I finally got to see where the old housing trust building was near the Cambridge flats as the photo zooms out at 3.35 you can see it on the left just like it was in the video a great place to live. Top job mate.👍🏻

Glad you enjoyed it Geoff. Every video is another piece in the puzzle isn't it? I tried very hard to give as comprehensive a picture of Elizabeth's early layout in the Elizabeth City Timeline video as I could. I hadn't discovered the image you refer to here at that time, otherwise I would have included it in that video. It's pretty common for that to happen though - to find something later that would have been great in a previous video. Cheers for watching and, as always, for supporting the channel mate - much appreciated 🙏🍷

Nice job although I think you could use less melancholy background music.

Cheers Dave. I don't find it melancholy myself, so that's an interesting take. There is always the option of muting and just watching the images if you don't like my music choice. There is always someone that doesn't, others that do. Impossible to please everyone. Cheers for watching all the same, I appreciate it 🙏

@@elizabeththatwas It's much more pleasant to listen to than some of the distracting loud music other channels put up.
