The irony is that they were cousins and the series is historically in that irl Mary really was the rightful heir to the throne and not Elizabeth. Also Mary and Elizabeth’s sister Mary are also confused with eachother a lot. Mary of Scott rules with an iron fist, but Mary Tudor (Elizabeth’s sister) was the infamous Bloody Marry.
In reality Mary was locked up for about 25 years . Her whole life was wasted . It was tragic . Elizabeth didnt want her to die but she was frightend that the catholics would rise up and put Mary on the English throne

In the show: that would be beautiful real life: no, most likely their kid would suffer health issues like dad. And even then, Mary always loved Francis like a brother. They been around each other more than their actual siblings and Mary was a healthy 6 foot women while Francis was almost half her height due to health issues. It wasnt a good fit romantic wise but politically it was perfect.
I love these two queens historically, but I have to confess that I think this song represents Elizabeth more than Mary. After all that Elizabeth went through, being declared a bastard, kept away from the court, trapped in the Tower of London, underestimated by so many people and certainly with several traumas, and yet she managed to be one of the, if not the most, iconic queens that the world has already known. Yes! Neither of them had much of any choice in the traumas they had to face and survive. They were both pretty much trapped in the cycle/situation they were born into. I don't believe Elizabeth had any malice towards Mary - if all the other political forces were removed, I'd bet a thousand bucks that the two of them could have come up with a good solution. It's all the powermonging men who stood between them who made it so ugly. Both of them wanted religious tolerance for all. Just that got them both in hot water.
Oh, one more thought. For Mary, I guess we can say she also is a Phoenix, as we are still speaking of her kindness and courage. I believe she said, just before they killed her (slowly and badly, btw), "In my end, is my beginning." Rise up, dear Mary and also Liz.
I love Mary, but i think Elizabeths life wasn't that easy too. Her Mother, Anne Boleyn died as she has been a little girl and her father wanted a son and she was a dissapoint for henry. And her brother and sister has been on the throne before she claimed it. But she made the golden Age of England. Mary lost nearly everyone she loves and died before she has seen her son again( i cried on these scene ). I think both of them was really strong women. I love them both

The show does not portray accurately. But it’s good and entertaining. Wether Mary nor Elisabeth were stronger. They both were strong and powerful but used it a different way. Mary had a child to think of and that costed her life. Elisabeth just had her crown.
Just gotta say in a dynastic point of view, Mary wins in favor of her family line and the Tudor one ends. But Elizabeth was definitely one of the strongest and intelligent queen of Europe at the time.

Mary may have died at the end but she died protecting her reign and child. She was probably the strongest women in history she lost the love of her life and many people close to her. Mary fought her own battles and refused to let her husband do everything, she stood up to her enemies. She did not deserve what she got at the end but she did what ever it took to protect her country and she didn't die for nothing. Her husband went mad and she was backed into a corner with only one option. She had no choice to kill him, since birth Mary's one job was to protect Scotland.

i really love mary, even this show fakes history. But we have to be realistic and should say that Elizabeth has been one of the most powerful and strongest and most intelligent women of all times. Mary was incredible, tollerant and strong, unlucky about a lot of things, but Elizabeth was THE queen.
I think Mary was a good queen even though she sometimes let her emotions rule. Both she and Elizabeth were queens in a time men ruled but both were strong, powerful women and Mary was loved by her people because she was fair. Unlike Elizabeth Mary didn't have many loyal lords because she was Catholic. And she grew up France, she didn't know much about her country, I mean after all she was raised to be French. Her biggest mistake however was claiming England. Elizabeth was Henry VIII s daughter so she was the rightfull heir and Mary's was a second weak claim and this claim led her to marry Darnley and turned her brother against her. If she hadn't done that I think Mary could have survived had a long reign and they could have been real cousins and a family.

Many people are saying Elizabeth is "mean" and "spoiled", just by watching a historical drama that isn't that accurate. Elizabeth was one of the most intelligent rulers of her time, and is still remembered today for her intellect and strength. She didn't have a choice in the beheading of Mary. Think about it, her mother was killed by beheading by Elizabeth's father, king Henry the eight, why would she want to repeat this traumatic experience? Specially when it's her cousin, a family member. She locked Mary for years, in order to avoid execution, but had her killed when it was dangerous to keep Mary alive. It's nothing personal, it's her duty. Rulers had to commit sins in order to maintain their rule and their people's safety. Mary would have done the same thing to Elizabeth if the roles were revered. This is the monarchy, duty always comes first, even if it recuirs blood spilling.

A Queen is a Queen, both were simply amazing in the role they played and I'm sure if they had come face to face, they would make peace to both the nations. They were just afraid of each other because of the throne while their nobles and priests played the dirty game of politics for that both had to pay a price.

my opinion. elizabeth was one of the most intelligent and best rulers. she is one of the reasons why england is so powerful. she did care for mary, otherwise she would’ve killed her on the spot. she didn’t want to kill mary but it was too dangerous to keep her alive. she was avoiding killing her cousin, but age couldn’t avoid it forever. in the end, mary’s son took over the thrown because elizabeth didn’t want to have a child. i love both queens. elizabeth was one of the smartest rulers and mary was one of the smartest women in my opinion. they both were intelligent rulers.

This show didn’t make me cry very often. Not because it’s not a good or moving show, simply because I don’t cry easily. However, after Mary was r*ped and was clinging to the leg of that table, sobbing, and Catherine was talking her through her pain, I cried like a baby.

I have always loved history and have a series that tells the story of two empowered queens and who go through a lot for the sake of their people and reign is simply sensational (besides being based on real facts)! I really like the show.For me it is like that when I watch series or films that insist on historical people, I like to find out more, because I know that shows like to move away from the truth (which I also think is perfectly fine)it me often, so I explore a variety of sources.which I usually have a lot of fun with. I honestly like Mary better, she loves her country and would die for it. Honestly, Elizabeth is like a spoiled brat, in this whole entire video, she was probably crying half the time. But Mary was like a warrior and I loved her dresses too. EDITED: Okay, so I felt the need to edit and reply, as some people might have misunderstood what I'm trying to say. Not coming at you or anything, just explaining my words. My career choice is to become a history teacher because I love history and its my favorite subject. So yes, I do know a lot about Queen Elizabeth's rule and everything. Believe me, she's one of the best important female figures in history, as a woman in position of power and all. When I meant I liked Mary better, I mean in the show (Reign). You see Mary, and the story from her point of view and how she changes and adapts to even the most tragic and horrible circumstances. You see her fight! How Elizabeth is portrayed in (Reign) is different than how she was really in real life. You see Queen Elizabeth in (Reign) as this spoiled princess and someone who is unsure of themselves and who doesn't yet understand how to RULE in a sense, at least that is how I see it.That's what I meant by my earlier comment, and sorry for extended long post! :)

Mary did not persecute Protestants in Scotland. Why do you think she would've done it in England? Elizabeth, on the opposite, persecuted Catholics in England.
