Rarely interviewed, Elizabeth Montgomery talks about her experience on her TV show, “Bewitched.” Elizabeth notoriously always refused to wiggle her nose on request - as you’ll see in this interview.
Yes so sad seeing this video it seems to remind me that soon she would leave this world.. with her god-awful illness well then she look great after many years off the show he's got that sparkle and twinkle and always light up the darkness night or soul
Even when Elizabeth Montgomery had terminal cancer, she was just so beautiful and certainly didn't look too ill. I call her this tragic beauty, gone too soon, and the same with Agnes Morehead, and the actress named Alice who had ovarian cancer..... My goodness. It made me want to cry. And then, my own mother who had cancer, joined those who were pretty much so iconic, to me. I still think about these amazing actresses and my mother.
Even at home, Elizabeth put her feet on the couch. She did it on BEWITCHED, too. Liz was so casual and easy going. ❤ Her biographer has called her a gentle person. No wonder people loved her, and still do.
Always wished I had the opportunity to tell this woman just how remarkably talented and beautiful she is. How she brightened my day in very real ways. How I could laterally feel her spirit and energy through the tv screen! I love this woman..without ever meeting her I truly love her. Bewitched is by far my absolute best All Time sit com....by far!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I can follow almost every word in your comment like a shadow. We're all going the same direction, we all breathe out last and the curtain is drawn closed for the final time. It's too heavy for me to ponder at times. This is one of those times. We love you Elizabeth. You had our hearts from the start.
She really nailed the role of Samantha Stephens. It is one of the rare exceptions where I find it extremely hard to separate the character from the actor.
She was so special...Still hard to believe she’s gone. But, her illness would be so entirely treatable today as long as it’s pre-screened. It’s sad to think about it.
I watched it in syndication growing up. It was so funny and it’s a great example of true entertainment. The fights between Endora and Darrin were hilarious.
Elizabeth is one of my favourite actresses. I loved the show "Bewitched" always watched it on the television. She comes across as a very intelligent charming Lady. Likeable and not vaine. She passed away far too young. It is very sad. But she will always be remembered with love and affection. ♥️
True. He ended up in small town in Michigan because his mother had died and left him her house. Dick & his wife were in dire financial straits for many years, so the chance to move there for a rent free home was too good to pass up ! In a TV interview he did before he died, the reporter said they were living on $650 a month from his Screen Actors Guild pension. But in the interview Dick (on oxygen) was anything but wallowing in regrets & self pity. He was very upbeat and only had positive things to say about his career and his co-workers. He & wife were involved in raising money for the homeless up until the end of his life. Bless his kind & gentle heart ! May he rest in eternal bliss....
@@jubalcalif9100 Omg that is so sad. I didn't know that. What a class act he was. I knew a little about his life after the show but not what you told me. 😢
@@ukmedicfrcs It is indeed very sad. But I love how Mr York never became bitter over his lot in life & only had good things to say about his former co-workers. For him to stay so positive in the face of years of pain is wonderfully impressive ! Thank you very much for your comments !! :-)
@@jubalcalif9100 I need hear on a Youtibe interview he was on Welfare. Msked dense as he needed to provide got himsrlf medical help then supporting 5 children
Elizabeth Montgomery was a great comedic & dramatic actress, and such a beautiful woman. I've always wondered, however, why she never mentioned her "Bewitched" costar, Dick York, in interviews like this one. York said he called her several times after he left the series over health issues, but she never returned his calls. Incidentally, Elizabeth was estranged from her father up until the time of his death.
Shame on Elizabeth Montgomery for not returning Dick York's calls for God sake the man was very sick. There could have been many reasons why but thats still cold.It makes me wonder if anyone called Elizabeth when she became very ill.
I'd seen in a video on here about Bewitched which revealed how Dick York had supposedly fallen in love with Liz and wanted her to leave her husband for him. Biggest problem with that was that her husband was the producer of the show! How did he expect her to leave her husband for him in that situation? All three worked on the same show and he was just willing for both of them to lose their jobs over this? Because I'm sure that's what would've happened since her husband was the producer and essentially their boss.
@@allenfreeland6494 What goes around comes around. If she was indeed cold to a Mr. York an early death for her kinda evens things. Personally I couldn't stand Elizabeth Montgomery. Biggest stink of a liberal I have ever known of . She was a Democrat who'd fit in perfectly with today's loony leftist communists.
What a beautiful lady she was. I am slowly working my way through the eight seasons of Bewitched on DVD. Elizabeth Montgomery was totally delightful as Samantha.
My mom just loved actor Robert Montgomery in his movies and TV shows, so when my family watched "Bewitched" when I was a child we all adored Elizabeth Montgomery.
Ms. Montgomery had a summer home in Patterson, Putnam County, New York State. Following her death in 1995, the 794-acre (321 ha) estate was sold to the State of New York and it became the core of Wonder Lake State Park. She loved spending summer hiatus from Bewitched there and figured that if she willed it to NY State it would be protected and could be enjoyed by everyone
She was so down-to- earth, natural and honest besides being so beautiful and talented. She came from show business celebrity as in her father Robert was well- known and accomplished. She had no ego nor did she ever use her background as a stepping stone. It's a rarity in hollywood.
Elizabeth Montgomery was America's Television sweetheart but she left us way too soon. She will be loved and missed forever. RIP Elizabeth Montgomery 🌷🌹🌷 #coloncancerprevention #coloncancerawareness #coloncancer
@@JayCity10 It could've been heritary. Most cancers like that are heritary. It is a shame that she passed away from colon cancer because she was beautiful and she was an incredible actress. I had an aunt that also passed from colon cancer so that puts me at high risk for getting it as well. So I have make sure that I keep up with my colonoscopies every 5 years.
I don't know what she did that so captivated me. I could never take my eyes off of her. Yes I thought she was beautiful and still do, but I saw something in her eyes that totally took my heart and soul. I believe we were blessed with a truly beautiful soul and spirit.
I just watched an interview yesterday and damn it I forgot his name he was I believe a producer on Bewitched for only a year and he said he was present during a meeting with Bill Asher and Liz. Liz wanted Dick York gone, apparently couldn't stand him for reasons we don't know. Could be true, could be BS
i was in love with her as i grew up. she was the most beautiful woman in the world. she was an incredible actress, the best there ever was in her time. she was really great in the outer limits with Charles Bronson, what a lucky man he was being the only man left alive with her as the only woman.. she passed away way too soon, if only they'd found it earlier !! RIP Elizabeth, we all miss you very much, thank you for leaving us your fine body of work to see and remember you with..
Samantha IS Elizabeth. That statement is so true. The things that Sam did Elizabeth did at home, painting something around the house, painting a picture, gardening, and like Sam, Liz, according to her eldest son, was an excellent cook. But one of Liz's interesting comments is that, she was never bored, in all eight seasons, and she learned so much, like going to college. She also said the same thing in another interview. That two-part interview is here on YT. There are those, who have done BEWITCHED documentaries, have expressed the opinion that Liz was bored by season eight. But she did want to move on. As Bill Asher said, BEWITCHED had run its course and television had changed. Her parents wouldn't let her go to a movie until she was eight. They felt it was better that she go out and play, just like a lot of other parents. ❤ As I watched the interview, I got the feeling what a sweet person. Her smile was genuine, not forced. Her children would probably disagree with their Mom. Based on what her son and daughter said, in the 1999 A&E special, their Mom would always go and see her kids, no matter when she got home from work. Her son William said that she would always talk with them. He said, on the weekends, it was all about her family, just like her own dad did, when she and her brother were kids. Her daughter, Rebecca, said that she missed her Mother's voice. Finally, Elizabeth seldom spoke of BEWITCHED, until the late 1980s, when Herbie Pilato met with her for his book THE BEWITCHED BOOK (now BEWITCHED FOREVER). Because of the book, she let her guard down a bit. Liz was very private. She was proud of BEWITCHED and the cast, and they loved her. As an example, Pilato wanted to interview Dick Sargent and David White. They wouldn't speak to him unless Liz was involved. She arranged for a telephone interview with Sargent and a surprised face to face meeting with David White at Elizabeth's home. This shows how much love and respect they had for her. Pilato would go on to write Elizabeth Montgomery's biography.
Elizabeth Montgomery the greatest actress and person from beginning to end. Life wouldn't be the same without her being Samantha Stevens and her nose twitch. ❤
@@eimardgomes1128 Wasn't brilliant according to who? The man is long dead and people like you still are mad as hell cause he took over a role that was his originally in the first place. Get over it and get a life. My God. It's more likely she didn't mention either of them, because she most likely would have mentioned Sargent, and then her not mentioning York would be glaring obvious.
I adore her still. She will always be remembered. Beautiful and talented. A remarkable woman. Some say she was not very nice. We don’t know what it is like to walk in her shoes. What matters is what she gave to us. Her talent. She made us laugh and cry. That’s what a good actress does. Thank you Miss Montgomery for all the memories.RIP🌹🌹🌹
Whoever said Elizabeth wasn't nice are wrong. She was a sweet and kind person, according to those who knew her. Erin Murphy loved her and stayed in contact with her through her kids, who she is still friends with. Robert Foxwirth said, about a year or so ago, that those he's met over the years, loved working with Liz. People, who met her in public, have posted, to a person, have said she was so nice. If she had time, she'd stop and talked to them, sometimes signing an autograph. Liz Shridan, a close friend of EM, said she was a sweet and generous person.
@@kerrykeene6471 I think lots of people thought her father and Liz fought about politics. One article I read was not favorable. I loved her. Saw all her movies. Some people just have to say insulting comments about anyone
Liz and her father were on opposite ends of the political spectrum, Robert Montgomery was a staunch conservative and Liz was a liberal. Robert Foxworth also said that he thought her father was jealous of his daughter's success, feeling she had become bigger then he had been. Her father didn't want her to become an actress, but that's all she talked about, from an early age. Her father did warn her about the industry. I think that's why she guarded her privacy.
Elizabeth starred in a TV remake of Bette Davis' "Dark Victory". I love the original - but at a point of hopelessness Elizabeth had my heart bursting and tears erupting. Brava, Bravissima!👏🎉 👏
Hello John Tesh She was estranged from her father for many many years. Anyone who did their homework before interviewing a famous celebrity would have known that!!
In order for Montgomery to agree to such a rare interview, it was already pre-decided that certain things would not be discussed and were off the table. This was just a generic fluff piece and not a Barbara Walters tell-all-wear-your-heart-on-your-sleeve interview. Many classy female celebrities who had great stories to tell never gave interviews, much like Jackie Kennedy Onassis ever since she left the White House.
I read once that she didnt like to be recognized in public. Not because she was rude. She didn't think she was that big of a deal. To her. It was just a " job"
Elizabeth Montgomery wasn't the angel she is portrayed as. Read about what happened to the first Louise Tate. Basically forced to quit because she was friends with a producer Elizabeth Montgomery didn't like. And the fact that she went out of her way, to not mention the second most important reason Bewitched was what it was (Dick York) was so small of her.
No she was not a nice person She even had an affair with someone on the set . Her husband ,William Asher cheated, too. Dick York may have had a thing for her but the poor man had a difficult life with his back injury and later emphysema .She acted like he didn't exist anymore after he left the show
A lot of them are (were) horrible demanding bastards and bitches and power mongers. It's all a facade of how giving and gentle and kind and caring these characters were. Most of their personas were created and embellished by publicists. Very few are as genuine as made out to be.................
@@deedeeannash How noble you are...but wait...what if she didn't like YOU? And YOU had put your heart and soul into making the show a hit and suddenly you discover the 'star' of the show doesn't care for you...the reason doesn't matter, the 'star' just doesn't like YOU. Out on your ass looking for another job...now how noble do you feel?
@@deedeeannash that's no excuse for treating your fellow human being horribly. It's called being considerate and compassionate. No one has the right to treat those dealing with unfortunate circumstances like shit
Watch Bewitched everyday. It is still as funny as the first time I saw it. I like the old Darren better. Elizabeth I know you are in Heaven shining as bright as you did for the short time you were on Earth.
Nothing much I can add here except the Dick York story is heartbreaking and tragic. I respect Liz Montgomery for many things, not the least of which was her absolutely stunning beauty and charm, but I disrespect her and others on the show for not helping Dick York when he was obviously so down and out. I don't understand that.
Some many questions he could have asked, about the show, about her costars, about having two Darrins, etc., the death of the original Mrs. Kravitz in the second season...and he opts to ask these generic quesions. Incredible.
@@robinlillian9471 I agree with this assessment about "maybe it was an agreement'. She was known for not wanting to talk about "Bewitched" all that much in the late 1970s and through the 1980s and just really started talking about it again around 1989 and later. I read when Bill Asher directed "I Dream of Jeannie: 15 Years Later" she called him and told him he was an idiot for doing that. All counts point to her being a looking forward in her career type of person, not really looking back that much. Several folks have said that she was surprised how popular "Bewitched" had become when it was being shown on Nick at Nite in the late 1980s, she genuinely had no idea the show was so popular.
I would say Elizabeth requested for the Darrin issue not to be mentioned in this interview. Dick York was very much a part of this show's success. Really shines a dark light on what I had thought Elizabeth to be
You would say that based on what? absolutely nothing. You have ZERO evidence of that. It's people like you who keep gossip mags in business. And even if she did, she probably had her reasons., which, and this might be a shocker to you, reasons she wanted to keep to herself. Liz is in this interview, not Samantha. Learn to separate character from actors.
My favorite actress of all time , for many of us a first crush. When I was about 10 or 11 the cast of Bewitched was the celebrity guest for the Soap Box Derby in Akron Ohio, they were watching the races from a tower and I was seated below, after yelling Samantha for a while she looked down , smiled and waved ( annoying kid :-). She was very special (still is, thanks to video) Thanks.
Such a beautiful woman with an awesome spirit. It seems that acting, her one true passion, cost her some of the finer things in life. I would have loved to have met her.
Odd to mention Maurice Evans (12 episodes as her father) and Paul Lynde (10 episodes as Uncle Arthur), while totally ignoring the Darrins/Dicks (York and Sargent) .? Nevertheless , amazing actress, and still one of the best comedies in television history.
The interaction between Elizabeth and Dick-- antagonized by Agnes Moorhead--was what made the show so special. Elizabeth was more the straight-faced actress to Dick's zany actions and expressions. He was made to be the buffoon and took the brunt of the comedic interplay. My wife howls over many of those reruns. My guess is that she didn't like Dick because his health issues took so much of his time and effort to deal with and affected the show to some extent? That was what was so sad. They could have been a great couple on the show for many years longer had Dick not had such terrible back problems. Dick York over Dick Sargent any day, in my book.
Where they friends? People desperately want to cling onto a fantasy that actors are all friends with each other. It’s a job. Would you go and help out some guy you worked with ten years ago? A colleague that wasn’t a friend. I have numerous co workers from days gone by that I can’t even remember!
I do think she was bored on the final season (and I do not blame her). Nevertheless, there never would have been a Bewitched without the warm, beautiful and talented Elizabeth Montgomery.
Several have commented on Elizabeth not mentioning either Dick York or Dick Sergeant. It's well known that Elizabeth favored and enjoyed working with some actors and actresses on the show more so than others, just as everyone does in their own work place. You can work well and perform together well on set without being best friends. I think most of us have worked with people for years that we would consider to be friends at work, yet do not socialize with them or keep in contact with them outside the work place. It's perfectly normal.
She turned down the film The Flintstones became she was fighting cancer. Elizabeth Taylor took the role but it would have been a delight to have seen her in the role since she did the cartoon episode of the Flintstones.
Hi Mr Pintar I am Christina and I will say Nice Words to Elizabeth she is great talented person who can entertain watch TV of Bewitched because is great
Elizabeth was not overly fond of Dick York. They worked very well together, and that's all that matters. She found York annoying. And on a busy set, you don't have to be friendly off camera with those you are not fond of.
I know York had numerous problems, but why in the world should anyone think Elizabeth should have helped him with money? They were not friendly, just work partners. That's life. Besides, Elizabeth had a busy and full life that went in a completely different direction after the series.
was this the early eighties? Minus the hair. Great interview with a wonderful actress. I say this because Samantha on Bewitched was this beautiful, over the top, bigger than life creature while Elizabeth Mongomery was low key with a calm presence.
