Let's See How Elizabeth of York Looked in Real Life. She was known as a renowned beauty and the very model of an English Rose. Elizabeth of York was the eldest child to King Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville. She married Henry VII (the father to Henry VIII), making her the mother to Henry VIII. Her marriage to Henry VII ended the War of the Roses connecting the two feuding houses of Lancaster and York.
Elizabeth stole the hear of her husband Henry VII and her premature death from childbirth complications caused him to overcome with grief. In fact, her sad death caused the Tower of London to end as the official royal residence for future monarchs of England as it was too sorrow to live there anymore.

I went to a lecture a week ago by Tudor Historian and author, Alison Weir about Elizabeth. An interesting video about an extraordinary woman. She went through a lot during her childhood but was always described as a kind and gentle woman who made the best of her difficult situation. She was a good wife and mother and brought peace to England together with her husband after a long period of civil war. These facts made her beautiful in my eyes. She is definetely a person who derserves respect.

It’s tragic how many women died in childbirth before the age of hygiene. If only those assisting at the births had scrubbed their hand and fingernails with soap and water, the vast majority of these deaths wouldn’t have occurred.

@anthonytroisi6682
@anthonytroisi6682 11 месяцев назад
I thought that in terms of their thin, almost dour faces, I thought there was a strong resemblance between Richard III and Henry Tudor. Ironically, neither of these two men resembled the large Edward IV. Elizabeth of York was tall and buxom. Although good-looking, she did not have the refined beauty of her mother, Elizabeth Woodville. Although her marriage was satisfactory, Elizabeth had almost no political power. Henry deeply mourned Elizabeth, but he did try to negotiate a second marriage in order to father more male heirs.@@LyricalXilence

I don't think Elizabeth of York was beautiful. Her portraits which are supposed to make them look better looking are not good. She was a very plain woman whose beauty was overexaggerated. Her son Henry's handsomeness was also overexaggerated ...we have portraits of him as a young king, not handsome in my books. The portrait of Elizabeth Woodville shows an attractive face but the hairline is a bit extreme.

By most accounts, Edward IV was a tall, handsome warrior and it was a scandal that he married Elizabeth Woodville because he was enamored by her beauty. It makes sense that their daughter would be at least aight.

I have owned greyhounds for 22 years and adore their gentle, sensitive nature. They are large dogs capable of incredible athleticism but also make incredibly intuitive pets. They make wonderful pet therapy dogs (two of mine have been Pet Therapy Ambassadors) because of their gentle demeanor and not often know extreme laziness. Being sprinters, greyhounds sleep up to 20 hours a day and especially enjoy being cuddled and petted by people. Even the highest level racing grey on,y runs two short races a week a week and prefers to lounge in the sun or on a soft bed most of the time. Back then, only nobility were allowed to own greyhounds and coursing them to hunt rabbits and smaller game and falconry were popular past times of the nobility. There were actual laws that commanded anyone caught hunting on the kings lands using a greyhound could be put to death. Margaret Beaufort actually used the white greyhound as her symbol in popular art/propaganda of the time. Henry VIII shared his mother’s adoration of the breed and kept greyhounds. His two favorites Cut and Ball were well known for their constant presence at court and in in his chambers. It’s noted that he repeatedly paid expensive rewards for their return when they ran off and also paid large bonuses to his laundresses after they complained at how dirty the hounds made his bed sheets and the extra work washing them so often caused. The hounds wore beautiful bejeweled collars that advertised the reward for their return if found lost. Since greyhounds have almost nobody fat, they are extremely prone to hypothermia in cold conditions and require a warm coat on cooler days. There were very specific standards for how the royal greyhounds were to be housed and cared for and being the Keeper of the royal greyhounds was a high honor. Usually, hounds were housed near the stables in a heated, well kept are but Elizabeth or York, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I preferred to keep their favorite hounds in their living quarters and bed chambers. I totally appreciate their affection for the breed and think it’s just really neat that my beloved pets have such a regal history. Most people don’t realize how sweet, gentle and lazy they can be. They are also incredibly beautiful animals who generate a lot of attention and questions when we go places. Since racing was banned in Florida, we only have been able to find one to adopt. Our Archibald “Archie” retired from racing in West Virginia after losing all his training races. He’s just 2 and such a sweet, good boy. His favorite place to be is in our bed cuddled up with my husband and I.

The marriage of Elizabeth of York to Edward 7th was a very happy one, they were often seen being very affectionate with each other & recollections of various characters of the time Have said, although Henry 7th was frugal he didnt stint on his wife & often presented her with costly gifts, fabric for dresses & jewellery After each birth of their children the king presented her with a stunning piece of jewellery. Henry 7th was inconsolable when his wife Elizabeth died & her funeral was a sumptuous affair No expense spared! Its nice to hear of such a partnership in those days when political alliances were the norm & many marriages were not happy ones I still think Elizabeths mother Elizabeth Woodville was beautiful & would have stood the length of time even up to todays standards of beauty, she, i thought was stunning! I love her background too esp her mother Jaquetta Rivers & their association with the river goddess Melusine Its a facinating read if anyone is curious. Thank you for this video I should like a " make over" from yourself on Lord Byron if you havent already done so He was reputed to be the most beautiful man ever!!?? Thanks 🇬🇧👧

The rumor about Richard wanting to marry Elizabeth of York has been very clearly disproved: he was, in fact, arranging negotiations with the king of Portugal for a marriage between Elizabeth of York and Manuel of Portugal (who, in the event, married first young Isabel of Castile, oldest daughter of Isabel and Fernando, and widow of young Afonso of Portugal; then after young Isabel died, Manuel married her sister Maria, and after the death of Maria, he married Eleanor of Habsburg, niece of young Isabel and Maria). Richard himself, after the death of his wife Anne, was negotiating to marry Joana of Portugal, in conjunction with his negotiations for Elizabeth and Manuel. There were no plans for him to marry Elizabeth; and no reason for it: she and her siblings had been declared illegitimate by reason of a pre-contract of her father to Eleanor Butler before the secret marriage to Elizabeth's mother (I said it was complicated).
@melenatorr
@melenatorr Год назад
Elizabeth Woodville panicked and went into sanctuary weeks before Princes were in the Tower: in fact, as soon as she heard that Richard and Buckingham had forestalled anything her brother Anthony might have planned, that Anthony and a couple of his cohorts had been arrested, and that Richard was escorting young Edward to London. It should be remembered that Richard was sent word of his brother's death by his sister-in-law but by Hastings several days after the fact. Things were complicated, very complicated, and to confuse dates and events more than they already are for the period is a disservice.

She was always described as buxom by contemporaries but she definitely got big towards the last few years of her life like her father and her son. In all fairness, I have researched Richard III, collecting quite a library on him. Although Shakespeare writes a marvelous drama, with really interesting techniques like Richard’s speeches directly to the audience. However, Shakespeare’s plot is basically tabloid history as at several points, the narrative diverges. One of these, the possibility that Richard III was considering marrying his niece. This is untrue as Richard was bargaining for Joanna of Portugal for himself and Prince Manual for Elizabeth of York. Legend says that Joanna asked for a night to think it over, and said she would marry him if he lived. Richard died the next day at Bosworth Field. Even his contemporaries, such as Mancini, said he died bravely. The matter of the princes is a longer story and there are many curious events surrounding the Battle of Stoke. Do look into some of these alternative views, it would make a really great RU-vid!

The situation in 1483 after the death of Edward IV and accession of Richard III was extremely complicated, and the summary here is not sufficient. It's fairly safe to say that Richard would not have been jealous of his nephew, having grown up and matured with plenty of authority, power and trust of his own, and having proved loyalty to his brother and his brother's family for all of his career. Once his brother died, there was a power struggle on several sides: the Woodville faction and the Hastings faction (and the burgeoning Tudor faction too) were all at least as complicit as Richard's faction.
