Hello, Sharon. It's best to section your hair and then curl, than have the curler section for you. Your hair may tangle if the section inserted into the slit is too thick. Begin with a 1/2" section; opt for smaller sections for longer hair. Insert hair into the slit before pressing the direction button. Additionally, ensure your hair is thoroughly brushed or combed to prevent knots. Using a tail comb to separate a section of hair and then inserting the sectioned hair into the slit might work. Does this work for shag hair cuts? I have shorter layers on top and long layers at mid back and am unsure of how this will work. Any tips? Your styler is highly rated, but I can’t find many videos of people using it.
