Swedish musician Ellen Molnia performs a joik in praise of the water of the lake. Joik, or yoik, is a traditional form of song in Sámi music performed by the Sámi people of the Nordic countries.

Yodeling=Gathering of the fibers They all twang, Kulning=the fluid stran of the sound, Joiking=twining of the thread individually. All are sacred and old as the earth, so Alot of us tend to use ancient weaving as a Way to describe the Orlog,

Joik, is the vocal expression of the spirit of nature. you can not Joik AT the mountain, or joik AT the river or the sky, but you can joik THE mountain, or THE river, or THE sky......that is what joik is.

@@bokvarv1926 So is it what you feel coming through you in the moment? Would two different people wind up joiking/sounding different if they showed up to the same lake… but both versions also be the lake? I hope my question is clear.

I was told that my great grandmother was "native", I always thought my dad meant American native, but my DNA shows she was 100% finnish Sámi. My great grandfather was swedish Sámi. My dad would tell me about how he would walk on logs with my great grandfather. I wish I could have met them. This culture is the closest thing I have to slightly getting to know them. ❤ Beautiful song. Tack så mycket.

There are no such thing as Sami separated between nations. There is one nation called Sápmi, but its not differentiated by modern nationalities, its differentiated by "north Sápmi" and "south Sápmi".

@@AndreasNilsson-ux1zk that is a place, where the Sámi people live... They were actually treated very poorly and almost lost their culture due to being taken and scattered around Europe. So that being said, there are actually a lot of people out there that have Sámi heritage. I am not sure what you are getting at, but Sápmi is their home, not to be confused with the people.

@@AndreasNilsson-ux1zk there are Sámi that live in the northern regions of Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Russia. I was simply saying which region she was from as a generalization. Sorry for the confusion.

I can understand your concern, I'm guessing your worried about appropriation.. Also, just because someone is indigenous doesn't mean they owe the world traditionalist clothing It's totally ok for them to wear modern hippy clothes or anything else they feel comfortable in, that makes sense to them

@@MartijnMcFly it could. İ can also throatsing myself, and it acquires you to strengthen and train your vocal muscles. That doesnt mean i can use drums or instruments. And her voice is so clean that you can add almost everything to it and would fit. Trust me i know :P
