I was born and grew up in Ellesmere Port, and went to the local college. The town is quite deprived, and the oil refinery causes pollution. However, it's a community of good and honest people, and the area has a lot of history.

Was born and lived in the Port 1957-1976,l grew up in Whitby village,, butchers, bakers everything, you went down the port for more, the town football ground in the town, an open air busy market, whitby around the woodlands had lovely leafy lanes and there was woods my nan lived on deeside and you could cut through the woods at the back of the house to the masonic or woodlands, pop vans, coal vans, meat deliveries, vicars would call by.. I left in 76 after training at Carlett Park to be a chef, just a summer season on the Isle of Wight, before I did I made my last visit to Rivacre baths, so left my home and first girlfriend, would never go back to live there and life took me to Derbyshire, still have lot of family and love to visit and catch up, but I couldn't live there again, Sheffield has suffered much the same with Meadowhell, I've worked around the city most of my post Port years, it's a big city and it's bouncing back, I hope the Port can do the same, the video described the Boat museum area as the nicest bit of the town, shows what investment can do, over the wessie bridge used to be the roughest part as a kid, I went to that cinema many times as a kid, Elvis films, The Alamo and qued for ages to see a hard days night!!

The plot of waste land at 16:30 used to be the Knot hotel, a thriving meeting place for the locals for a lunchtime pint back in the day, livened up by the occasional skirmish between different intellectual schools of thought....

Thanks for the tour, I've never been to the port, the shopping centre is rather drab, much like Birkenhead has gone but I liked some of the older buildings and the walk by the water, lovely seeing the swans coming to greet you. 😆

I live in the port, the whole town centre (except ASDA and ALDI) needs bulldozing and then just build apartments. Even the Pound shops can't survive. Small town high streets are dead.

I think the town misses the knot that should have been the Witherspoon's And Cheshire oaks has moved the shoppers to the oaks and the surrounding supermarkets ,i remember going to the Kwik save and Sayers and littlewoods where auntie Lynn and auntie Karen worked,we used to go from alvanley road with my Nan may Tew staljis after she moved out of the Sutton way, I remember the opening of the asda when I used to stay at the knot with family.we used to collect the trolleys for 10p great times in the port ❤ always be my home ❤

I've lived in this town for over 40 years and I don't think it's any different from a lot of town centres now. Wherever you are in Ellesmere Port, you're not far from the motorway to visit places like North Wales, the Pennines, or the Lake District, which is good if you've got a car.

Need to walk around stanney grange .make sure to wear thick solid shoes to protect from the amount of broken glass that the council does not bother to clear up.

that's labour for you! Keep voting them in and get the same results every time! Glad I moved out of the port and I'll never live there again.

I was born in Ellesmere Port Great Sutton area in 1962 at my Aunt's home (rumored to be a Witch lol) shame cos it may have been in Liverpool where my parents are from. Yeah those Council buildings look a bit sinister round round one. everyone yell there?) It was nice for my first 7 years, then made the mistake of moving to a town near Toronto and when I tell them I'm a 'Cheshire Cat' they haven't a clue LOL!

That was indeed an old cinema, one of the original one's, it is listed and is now a bathroom showroom but if you go upstairs and turn around, they still have the balcony complete with seats with dummies dressed in Edwardian clothes sitting in them. The boat museum was used as a location for Peaky blinders and Tolstoy amongst others. Pity you missed out a big chunk of the shopping centre, just keeping to the road. The town started at the boat museum then spread to the station, then spread past the station, the government demolished most of the old town to build the M531 urban motorway, now the M53. In the 70's whitby Road shops were well used and you had to step into the road sometimes as the pavement was so full. The new town centre was built then expanded with The Port Arcades, the town centre is still expanding with the old parts falling into disuse, that's why Ellesmere Port ended up with this long thin shopping centre. The pub did use to be a Weatherspoons called The Thomas Telford, it's now a sports bar. The council office's are closed, due for demolishen, they have a new smaller one on the site of the old bus station.

Many thanks for your comment.Very interesting. Yes, Shopping Centres are difficult for us film makers as Security Officers often get over zealous with a man with a camera.I did not want the walk turning into an audit.😄

@@WalkingUK I've edited my comment as I put Tolstoy instead of Tolkien. There is another outdoor area on the other side of the Arcades with a Asda, Aldi, Iceland and Jolleys pet store.
