Wow this video really made me feel like an expert 😊! I have a Moorish idol, a Green Mandarin, a copper band butterfly, a cleaner wrasse, and an Achilles tang. My copper band and my cleaner wrasse both eat from the water column. My Moorish idol eats anything and everything. My Achilles Thang loves Nori and little neck clams, all the fish love little neck clams. If you’re having trouble getting a fish to eat, try a little neck clam. Also strangely enough my Achilles tang will not eat frozen Mysis shrimp/brine shrimp, he isn’t interested in them at all. Over the past eight years I have had ick in my tank twice. I haven’t had an outbreak in years. I do have a UV sterilizer on the tank, I feed many times a day, many different foods soaked in vitamins.

I have mandarins, a moorish idol, and a twinspot goby. My moorish idol started out eating mysis but now only eats flake foods, so I have a big tub of algae flakes for it. I think mandarins can be kept sooner than they say if you buy a bunch of pods to seed the aquarium and then dose phytoplankton to keep the population up. It's really easy to culture phyto, too. Just put in an airstone, dose some fertilizer, and leave it in the backyard. No lighting needed, you have the sun. As for my twinspot goby, I must have gotten extremely lucky, because this guy eats literally everything. Flakes, pellets, mysis. I didn't do anything but buy it from the store and throw it in my nano tank. I was actually surprised to learn that it was considered an expert only fish. To be honest, I think if the fish eats and doesn't have any problems within the first few weeks in the tank, you don't have to worry about it anymore. The guys are right. A fish has a 100x better chance to survive if it can adjust to living in an aquarium.

Hey Ryan, Thanks for the video - love the content The CBB challenge seems to be down to a few key factors - 1.) get one that eats in the store if possible 2.) if not eating, at least ensure that it’s a very active and healthy fish in the store To wean them on food and get them eating the ONE thing that worked when everything else failed was small live clams Buy them from a market live, freeze them, then drop them in after they’ve been fully frozen - they will thaw and open. I got this from Reef Dudes. Nothing else worked - not brine shrimp or mysis or masstick or black worms Once he started eating clams he started eating mysis and other stuff

I’ve been doing it for 8 years, I currently have an Achilles tang, powder blue tang too. Both small, came in frail and weak. They have both survived numerous diseases, flukes, ich, etc. Today I plan to pick up a moorish idol, if I do, I’ll update on my success with him.

Great video!!! I have bought what is for me quite a few fish from Elliot (a laughable amount for some people I would imagine). Had very few issues. Those issues are due to the nature of the fish I have ordered (fairy wrasses. They just don’t ship well in my experience and don’t live very long if they have super male coloration). The other fish I have ordered from him have been AMAZING!!! I ordered some fish from another well known vendor that specializes in treated fish and the results are not the same. Not even close. Highly doubt I will ever order from them again just not a good experience and the animals are nowhere near as healthy. Marine collectors isn’t the cheapest place to buy fish but if you want the best chance of success and you can’t do all the treatments yourself MC is the way to go.

Elliot sells both. Ive bought a QT'd fish from him before and had no issues. The fish failed to adapt over 3 months and slowly perished but thats due to the difficulty of the fish and not disease, it had a very difficult time transitioning off live foods (spotted drum). $750 fish 😬 @@reyman7131

I disagree with the Copperband. Mine is 7 years old, likes eating everything except dry food and actively swims against my gyre pump. The only difficulty was at the beginning to make him eat. I just dumped a slightly opened oyster in the tank and problem was solved. I love that fish, he’s constantly in my way when I have my hands in the tank.

I am a poopoo garbage saltwater keeper and can barely keep any coral alive because I suck at nutrient balance but the Regal Angelfish, Copperband Butterfly, and Cleaner Wrasse thrive and haven't ever even shown lympho I tried a Bicolor Angel, Kleins Butterfly, and Solon Wrasse before those 3 and none of them made it and I had way better parameters at the time. I'm on month 6 with these 3 though and they seem smart. Most of the fish in my tank like to pick at things and investigate. The Regal Angel, Copperband, and Clown are the trio that greets anyone looking at the tank even if they already got fed. Cleaner latches onto my arm when cleaning like a very polite toothpaste looking leech.

Cleaner wrasse, Regal angel, and copperband butterflyfish still raccooning it up. They all seem to have being a lot more intentional and very curious if they are otherwise content. Regal angel always stares into my soul like a fat blenny on a rock

I would love Elliot/Ryan to do a spotlight on the Pinecone fish (Cleidopus gloriamaris). I have wanted to keep these for years. As well, frogfish would be a good one to spotlight. Many people keep them for maybe a year or so, and then they mysteriously die. Is it the frozen food, live food, something else?

I feed hourly with my Neptune auto feeder starting at 0830 and found a mix of pellet size and brand worked best. TDO x-small, small, and medium, PE mysis, and hakari S (I think that is it). I also have a larger size hakari pellet that I'll add but sometimes it blocks when I use the first setting on the feeder.

why show the fish you are talking about?
@saf1671
@saf1671 Год назад
The only drawback to this particular content is that some hobbyist will not put in the time or effort to maintain some of the animals you mentioned in this talk. They already balk at paying captive raised or bred fish what leads us to believe they will pay for special order fish that are conditioned for home aquariums? Also on the condition front there has been a push in our hobby that nutrients are evil. Captive bred, raised, fish arrive small and need to eat multiple times a day to include a variety. Add in some of the fish mentioned here and it is a double whammy. Feed often. Feed a variety. Watch what they eat. Adapt to the animal then at a slower pace try to ween it to a more standard routine. Just because a handful can successfully keep a Moorish Idol doesn't translate to the masses. Just my opinion. I do think you point out strongly about conditioning, source, and effort throughout the series so hopefully viewers hear it.
