Elly gets another new engine! 2CV Engine Swap 

Great video! I'm amazed at the quite brilliant engineering simplicity of the 2CV! A full engine replacement in a matter of hours by yourselves is a great result!

Hubnut at it's best. My wife (first time LISTENER) asked "how come he's not yelling at her?" I said it's because she understands and follows simple instructions. That's when the cold front came in. Best wishes from Australia

Elly will always be my favourite car on the HubNut fleet, closely followed by Betty, Tuk and Ms Daisy. That new engine is so sweet at tickover too. Great video and love how Mrs HubNut loves joining in

What a wonderful result both! Elly has a new heart and subject to an MOT health check pass will once again enjoy the wonderful roads in Wales and others further away. A year or so ago she even delivered my merch including "Power, less is more" stuff to the Post Office so it's heart warming to see her running again. I still want a 2CV if only I had somewhere to store one at home.

Gotta admire a car that's about as complicated as the average ride-on lawn mower which is not meant to minimize the work you two just performed to get it running.

At some point you must get a tool trolley and tidy up the work area properly. Everything will be quicker, simpler, and no random damage. Thank goodness the 2CV is not a valuable rare car.

As a youngster I had no interest in 2CV's, too influenced by others opinions but Ellie has totally reversed that. The simple design, ease of repair and the fabulous looking driving experience...yes please!! Ian you've changed me haha, sounds fantastic on the loaner engine.

If that engine hoist had have fallen on my car the air would have been blue. And I don't think I would have had the calmness to carry on for quite a while. So well done on carrying on and getting the engine fitted

Good job, all things considered when you put that engine in as a last resort, not even knowing the condition of it, it has not done bad really, I mean how many engines that were sitting for god knows how many years could get to croatia and back plus the time before the crank gave up but was still running and got you home from devon, I dont know of any engines you could do that with, good luck for the mot.

The 2CV lady in my neighbourhood brought her red beauty in the winter garage. I already miss the sound when she’s driving by my kitchen window. But now Elly does the job. Thanks Elly! (And thanks to the HubNut mechanics!)

I must admit as I’ve got older I’ve gained a huge amount of respect for the 2CV and Citroen’s generally come to think of it. As a child I thought they were quite funny cars then as a student studying engineering a friend’s mum had one as her first car to learn to drive in. I was amazed by the simplicity of them and how much fun they are to travel in especially the crazy angles of lean achievable. Later through my studies I lived with a family that had the Citroen bug quite badly and had among their fleet a 2CV and an AX. I helped a couple of times with fixing the 2CV and was further amazed by the simplicity and amazing practicality. Sadly I’ve never owned a 2CV but have owned a Xantia a Xsara and a few Xsara picasso’s and have tinkered with them all. Once day maybe when my current fleet has reduced!! It was a great video to watch and I completely understand the elation when the engine starts after significant work and blood sacrifice. Well done to Miss Hubnut for getting stuck in as well. Enjoy the sound of a sweetly running new engine 😊

Fabulous video, both of you. reminds me of my first car which was a bit of a Trigger's Broom as everything, but the VIN plates had been replaced.....if only there was more of this, rather than the disposable car society we have now. All embedded carbon from Ely's manufacture has surely been offset several times over and will continue to be offset for as long as she lives.....fabulous!

About 30 odd years ago, a mate of mine bought a new 2CV. It was a cute little thing. Shiny bright and green and we had a lot of fun bombing around and blasting Stephane Grappelli from my ghetto blaster. Then one night he went to a party and parked up over night in a car park. He left the 2CV facing a wall and went to the party. Next morning he came to collect his car which was still sitting there with it’s bonnet about 3-4” from the brick wall where he left it. Feeling a little worse for wear he got in and placing the key in the ignition he turned it, forgetting that he’d left the engine in gear. The car lurched forward a few inches before hitting the wall and stalling. _It was an insurance write off!_

That does sound like a lovely engine. Bummer about the engine stand.

I once won a £20 bet that I could change the clutch in my 2CV in less than two hours. Currently feeling jealous of your unit as we're dodging the rain to replace the rear chassis of our Disco 2. I hate the weather this time of year.

the 2CV6 name always intrigued me. Did Citroen at once point begin to ponder a sub 1litre v6 for the 2cv but the idea was canned prompty upon returning from the vineyards of Southern France for a much more sensible but far less Citroen idea.

My earliest memory of seeing a 2CV was on that TV sictom with Nicholas Lyndhurst. The 2 of us.

The front end of that car is ridiculously simple to dismantle. I think even I might be able to do it without hurting myself too badly!

here's a suggestion, waterproof multiplugs are available off the internet in a variety of pin numbers, so why not make one up for making the removal of the lights easier?

Lovely video both of you. There is not a lot of really good 2cv tinkering content on RU-vid and yours is up with the best. That new engine has a lovely tone; it sings! Maybe now the old one is out you can remove the 625 heads and put them back on the original engine with helicoils?

A friend of mine in the 1980's had a 2 CV and one dinnertime at work he changed the clutch on his own.

If only all engine changes were this easy.

Maybe Elly could do with being treated to a front loom, to, er, "tidy up" the wiring a bit... :D Nice to see her running again, shame the Croatia-tripped engine gave up, but it did give its' all with the 652cc pots through the journey... :)
