Elmar Oliveira plays Lekeu Violin Sonata

I can say without hesitation this is my favorite sonata for violin and piano. It was written for Eugene Ysaye. The world lost this great talent of Guillaume Lekeu the day after his 24th birthday, one can only imagine what other wonderous sounds he could have created if he lived longer !
Elmar Oliveira was the co-winner of the 1978 Tchaikovsky violin competition. There is an interview with him in the book titled The Way They Play Book 6 that includes a photo of Leonid Kogan handing him the gold medal for anyone interested. The book mentions he played Vieuxtemps 5 during the competition and I've seen russian records for sale with him playing it probably from that concert.
I recommend the recording by Arthur Grumiaux as an alternate interpretation, the recordings by Yehudi Menuhin and Christian Ferras are also worth listening to. I feel the world could use some more recordings of this sonata, preferably by James Ehnes.
I would have uploaded this 13 years ago but this has not gone out of print until very recently. Other works for violin I feel the world could use more recordings of include the Handel violin sonatas, Viotti concerto 22, Vieuxtemps concerto 2, Rode concerto 7 with Wieniawaski's cadenza, Kreutzer concerto 19, Sophr concerto 8, Bach trio sonatas for organ transcribed for violin and flute, D’un Matin de Printemps by L.Boulanger, the violin sonatas by Poulenc, Cui, Taneyev, Vaughan-Williams, and the violin concerto by Hindemith. Have you ever wondered what else Sauret wrote for violin that we haven't heard yet ? Is anyone out there listening ?
