Frank Moffett, oh, God, Frank. I'm terribly sorry for that kind of hurt. Nothing soothes, no ones words do much good, flowers wilt or need to be cared for, there's just nothing to even ease that, maybe time. I don' t know, have lost loved ones but not my ol' man. I don't think I'd want to try to make it. You must have had enough of her goodness & love to carry you through. Just know some of us care when someone hurts. I'm sure you wondered why the world didn't come to a grinding halt. It should have out of respect. I'm sorry. Blessings from Robin in Ks.

This reminds me of those long calls to my girlfriend and costing me $50 ai had to pay to my parents which back in the 80s was huge as a kid, toll calls weren’t cheap though compared to today it’s peanuts, though. Texting is way cheaper, but wouldn’t trade that for anything, no sexting, no weird shit, can’t remember what we talked about but we could never get enough, better times.

I've always considered ELO to be what The Beatles would have provided us in the 1970's if they had stayed together. (Not an exact, perfect analogy, I know, just my sentiment that Jeff Lynne and ELO inherited (co-opted?) The Beatles "sound" and moved it into 70's prog.)

'"Telephone Line" could have easily become an over-the-top exercise in camp, but is saved by a delicious melody. Futuristic sounding, carefully-layered orchestral pop, with a stunning arrangement that turn the song into a miniature symphony

I really enjoyed your reaction to Telephone Line. I grew up listening to ELO and the band was not as popular starting out, but over the years I believe many people have come to appreciate the genius of Jeff Lynne's song writing and the music. The band's songs have certainly stood the test of time and it never gets old listening to them. Their masterpiece album to me is still The Out of the Blue album. You get to hear the full range of their talents in all of the songs on that album.

My oldest son broke me out of hospital twice to see ELO, once to see them in Hyde Park in 2014 and also to sit in a muddy field at Glastonbury in 2016. It was two different hospitals for two different injurie's at the end of my service career. It was always great to see Jeff Lynne's ELO live, even if it meant having to face my wife's anger afterwards. This song reminds me of how much I loved talking to my family when I was posted over seas.

You can hear the Beatles in this, as with many ELO songs. On the lyrics "Telephone line, give me some time" or whatever...the same melodic scale idea used in the Beatles' "Hello Goodbye" in the background vocals "Hello Goodbye" repeated up the major scale. Only ELO's song is just slower, different topic. Except they are on the telephone line and you could sing the "lyrics "Hello Goodbye" which would make sense of you're on the telephone lol

Jeff's still doing it .... Your page came across my feed, and I saw ELO then you, so I had to stop.....lol. You will be surprised how many hit songs they had and you young folks might even recognize some... tons of great music from the 70s. I was a kid, used to carry around my little am radio, before FM.... Yes, I remember when FM came out, then you had stereo sound! and ELO sounded great in stereo. I remember when color TV and microwaves came out, and I'm only 55. Now, look at technology. If you like the 70's music, you might like Chicago; they had many great hits. I'm sure you'll recognize a few of theirs. Good evening from The Great Pacific Northwest! Good luck with your channel 👍

This song was written and performed first in the 1970's, phone mail hadn't been invented yet. You picked up the telephone handle, you heard a dial tone, you entered the number on the keypad and waited for somebody to pick up the phone on the other end and start talking to you. If nobody picked up the phone you just kept hearing the ring tone. There was no way to leave a message. The phone system used sound tones for electronic communication while it placed the call, usually over the same line that you would talk on, so you would hear all of these tones while the call was being placed. And that is the meaning of all of the tones, in the song. This song is moving to me, because I had a similar experience in college. I had been dating a woman who then didn't want me anymore. Calling her on the phone with no answer, I thought, please, please, talk to me, if I can't get you to change your mind, at least let me talk to you and hear your voice one more time. I let it ring forever, it seemed, and then hung up the phone with tears in my eyes. Yes, I remember it well.
