Someone asked for a definition of “primitive humor.” I’m no authority on that subject, never having heard the term “primitive humor” until now. However, I think I have some understanding of the concept. It seems the majority of humans have (or at least start out having) a universal “laugh button” that periodically gets pressed regardless of influences such as age, gender, personal preferences, background, language, geography, interest or non-interest in politics, knowledge or lack of knowledge regarding current events, the latest happenings in celebrities’ lives or which books are on the NY Times Best Sellers’ List. Take age, for example - there are some things that can immediately seem just as funny to a 6 year old child as to an 80 year old octagenarian. My guess is that primitive humor is dependent upon nothing more than simply being alive and being open to seeing the funny side of life.
